"What happened to me? " Malia asked, voice quiet as her body trembled, eyes looking up and away from the blood on her hands and some of her body, "Did I...Did I hurt somebody?" Horror laced her words as her brown eyes flooded with scared tears as she practically begged for answers, for someone to tell her that she hadn't hurt anyone.
( the last thing she remembers is running through the woods, running faster and faster. It was just like the years she had spent as a coyote, free and unafraid. a happy grin spread on her face as her feet pounded against the forest floor. a wild and carefree laugh burst from her lips... and was abruptly cut short as gunshots had rang out as she crashed to the ground and then -
-darkness. )
❝ sometimes the best book has the d u s t i e s t jacket and sometimes, the best teacup is c h i p p e d. ❞
basics:
Character: Belle
Name: Malia Tate
Hero or Villain: Hero
Occupation: Student, Librarian
Storybrooke:
In Storybrooke, Malia spent a good chunk of time in the local asylum, not remembering who had commited her or why they had done that to her. One night she was released by a mysterious man named Jefferson who told her to seek out a man named Mr. Gold. Malia did seek him out but, didn't have any memory of the man who seemed to know her and had sworn to protect her.
Currently and thanks to the help of her friend Ruben, Malia is living in a room at Granny's and working as a part-time librarian in the recently reopened library. She's recently re-enrolled in high school as a senior and determined to catch up on what she missed when she was committed, both in school and in life.
Enchanted Forest:
In the Enchanted Forest Belle was the daughter of Sir Maurice and the fiancee of Gaston. After, her father made a deal with The Dark One to stop a war his army was losing to the Ogres she went to live with The Dark One as an indentured servant. She lives in a dungeon cell in his castle where one evening she brings him a cup of tea, only to drop and chip the cup when startled.
Miserable and longing for her family, Belle spends the nights crying. One night, Rumplestiltskin grows sick of the crying and conjures her up a pillow. She thanks him for the pillow to help her sleep but, he proclaims it's to quiet her loud cries. The interaction is interrupted when the castle is broken into by an archer stealing a wand who shoots Rumpelstiltskin. Being immortal, the arrow does no damage and Rumpelstiltskin imprisons and regularly tortures the prisoner. Pitying him, Belle releases him and he steals the wand as he escapes.
Furious, Rumpelstilinskin forces her to accompany him and watch her kill the thief. When he questions what people would think if he let the man go, unharmed Belle tells him that maybe people would see a man and not a beast. When they hunt the man, Robin Hood, down he is using the wand to heal a sickly woman but, Rumpelstiltskin wants to attack anyway. However, it is revealed to Belle the woman is pregnant and she pleads with Rumpelstiltskin not to make the child fatherless and to her relief, he relents and allows the couple to scramble away.
When, they arrive back at the castle Belle is overjoyed when Rumpelstiltskin presents to her an extensive and beautiful library. She thanks him profusely knowing that showing her the library is at his expense but, he dismisses her words saying that she needs to clean the whole room spotless. Belle sees through his bluster though and happily attests that he must and does indeed have good inside of him.
One night, Belle happens upon Rumpelstiltskin lighting a candle and ignores his protests for her to go away. At his second shout, she notices a shawl and sadly realizes it's a candle of loss and gives her condolences, only to learn the person is not dead but, lost. Belle listens understandingly as he tells it its the person's birthday and how he regrets that it was his past actions that took away their chance to be happy together. Hopeful, Belle proposes it might not be too late to mend fences.
Malia looked up from her math book, highlighter firmly gripped in her teeth. She subtly sniffed, trying to figure out if the woman was someone should she be helping or attacking but, all she could smell was subtle perfume, a little fear and something…famiiliar. “Yeah..yeah, sure.” Malia closed her book, putting her highlighters away. “Umm..who are you looking for?”
Claudia waits for the girl to answer, before she spoke herself. “Stiles Stilinski?” She had already seen her husband, but her son hadn’t been home at the time and to be honest, she was getting a little impatient. She hadn’t been with him in so long, only able to watch over her family and now? Now, she just wanted to be with them.
malia's brown eyes went wide and she felt her hackles rise, instinctively at the mention of stiles' name. she stood, crossing her arms loosely as she looked the woman up and down. "what do you want with stiles?" malia asked, eyes narrowed as she shoved her book in her bag, pulling it over her shoulders. "i could show you where he's at but, first you need to tell me who you are." there was the familiar scent again and if she wasn't able to place it soon, she was going to snap.
"If you think it’ll help, I’ll try anything." Malia said, rolling her shoulders as she moved onto her stomach. Another wince covered her features as he rubbed her shoulder but, it faded soon after. "I know, it hurt the whole trip back but, I figured it’d be gone when I woke up." The blonde sat up, carefully and moved to pull her shirt off but, stopped at his steady look. "I know you won’t, that’s why I love you but, I just…I don’t know even how to tell you." Malia said, quietly as she looked up at his open and caring face.
"It may help, it will also relieve the tension in your neck and back baby." Stiles sat up and straddled around her upper thighs so then he could massage her properly but he didn’t sit down on her, that would have probably caused an awkward boner. He focused on massaging her back gently, not to hurt her, but he could feel the knots around her shoulders and he gently started to roll them out, his face soft as he listened to Malia. "I love you too, you don’t have to tell me straight away, but when you do, I’ll be here, open ears to listen alright?" He asked softly as he pecked her cheek as she turned up to look at him. "I’ll go get some moisturiser from my mom’s cupboard, dad never cleaned it out, maybe that will help sooth your back."
malia let out a relieved and pleased sound as he rubbed his hands along her back, relieving the pain that had been plaguing her muscles since the moment her back had made contact with the stone table. Just listening to him, not pushing her and being so kind made her want to tell him everything, everything she felt, everything she was scared of, every single thought that had been haunting her thoughts since coming back from mexico.
her brown eyes flutter closed as he kissed her cheek, she sat up as he did, "my dad never cleaned out my sister's room or my mom's stuff either." malia said, doodling circles on his knee with her finger, absently. "most of the times it freaks me out, gives me that sick feeling I told you about but, sometimes i like looking at her stuffed animal collection or look at my mom's dresses." she looked up at stiles with a somewhat sad smile, shaking her head. "umm..moisturizer, that should help so, i'll let you get that."

( and oh, this is the very worst kind of deja vu. though he never held his mother while she was dying per se, he did recall spending nearly all of his time by her bed. holding her hand, talking to her, praying with all his heart that she would get better; though he was far too young to have any real grasp on the concept of religion. try as scott & everyone else may to convince him that malia would be fine, over a decade of doubt and grief rattled around his brain like a monster in a cage. being a nearly defenseless human, all he could do was stay by malia’s side and trust that scott would find a way.
the sight of her stirring has him on alert; brushing the hair out of her face with a delicate touch while trying to wipe away any trace of fear or doubt from his expression. the last thing he wanted was to give more to stress about. )
❝ hey. how are you feeling? ❞
( dying, she felt like she was dying, maybe she was. Maybe this was her penance, her punishment for the murders she had committed all those years ago. She just hoped if she did die, that Stiles didn't have to watch. He was so sad sometimes, mostly when he talked about his mother. Malia really didn't want to be the reason he was sad, she wanted to be the reason he was happy. Unfortunately, as a burning pain flowed through her veins once more she knew she wouldn't get the chance again.
malia wanted to force herself to heal, to survive to heal. She didn't want to leave behind the boy she loved or the pack she had grown to love. If there was one thing the werecoyote had learned since coming back though was some things weren't fair. Maybe if she could just see Stiles happy smile one more time, she could convince herself he would be alright and then she would be okay.
malia stirred, dragging her aching body to conciousness. she gasped at a sudden rush of pain, coughing and spraying black blood over her lips and chin. her pained grimace turned to a tired smile when she felt his gentle fingers brush her hair away. )
"hey," she said, voice hoarse and quiet. "i'm fine, healing." she swallowed down the lie, reaching for his hand. "just don't leave, please."
"Thanks but…I don’t think I do. I mean, I had a great mom and sister and I killed them, Scott. Maybe, a father like Peter is the family I do deserve.”
❛ hey, you have to know that what happened with your family… it wasn’t your fault. i know what it’s like to be out of control — i know how hard it is, malia. you can’t blame yourself for something you didn’t choose to happen. —— we’re the family you deserve. a pack. ❜
"I know it's not, really, but, I still did it and maybe this is that karma thing. I don't think I could ever imagine you out of control, Scott." Malia offered up a weak smile before it faded just as quick as it had come, eyes drifting to look at her lap. "When you were, you know, out of control did you ever do something...bad?" Malia asked, hesitantly before his words brought surprised brown eyes up to meet his and a real smile crossed her face and she wondered, once again, how Scott managed to stay so..good...when everything, her father included, seemed intent on corrupting him and tearing him apart. The werecoyote hesitated for a moment before she crossed the distance between them, wrapping her arms around her alpha. "Thank you, I don't if you're right but, thank you for saying that."
"I like it when you smile like that, all happy. I like that I can make you smile like that." Malia said, a blush painting her cheeks. "It’s still on your desk. We could always try and watch that Space Wars movie you like so much. Because you’re already cute and that pout makes you like ten times cuter and then I can’t even try to say no." A content sigh passed her lips as he held her and she leaned her head against his shoulder. "It’ll be fine, Stiles, he said it was just like steak."
"You always make me smile like this Malia, you make me smile quite a lot." He chuckled as he shook his head. "It is Star Wars, and don’t worry, I won’t put you through it until our six month anniversary. We are half way there by the way, three months to go." He chuckled lightly as he rolled his eyes. "Oh sure, just like steak, deer is just like steak." He pouted again on purpose. "Maybe I should pout more and have you kiss me?" He asked with a wink and a chuckle.
"That's good because you make me smile too, seems like a fair trade." She said, smiling as she pressed a kiss against his neck, fingers absently playing with the hem of his t-shirt as she breathed in his familiar scent that made her heart beat just that much faster. The werecoyote laughed, amused and fond. "I can't wait, must be a good movie since you scowl at anyone who hasn't seen it." Malia lifted her head from hsi shoulder to lean her face in towards his, "Come on, I tried pizza, you've gotta try deer." She said, pouting herself. "You don't need to pout for a kiss, idiot." She chided, affectionately as she captured his lips with hers.

❝Hi, I’m━ I’m sorry to bother you. I was just wondering if you could possibly help me out? I’m trying to find someone.❞
Malia looked up from her math book, highlighter firmly gripped in her teeth. She subtly sniffed, trying to figure out if the woman was someone should she be helping or attacking but, all she could smell was subtle perfume, a little fear and something...famiiliar. "Yeah..yeah, sure." Malia closed her book, putting her highlighters away. "Umm..who are you looking for?"
Malia poked at the plate of pancakes her dad had brought her before he had left for work but, the thought of taking even one bite made her stomach churn in rebellion. It had been two days since they had come back from Mexico and Malia had barely talked to any of her pack, save a few texts to Stiles and Scott.
She didn’t know what was wrong with her, why she was so upset over what had happened with Peter. Malia had known, still knew, that he was a bad guy, a murderer, a sociopath and all things everyone had called him and said he was. There was one thing that no one had called him that he was though; her father.
No matter what evil he had done, wrongs he had committed. He was her father and deep down in a secret part of not even Stiles knew about, Malia had wanted that to mean something, had wanted to mean something to Peter and for a moment she had thought she had. In the end, Peter could have care less about her and it h u r t.
Malia wanted to be able to talk to Stiles, wanted to be able to talk to her pack about what was wrong and let someone hold her and tell her it was okay and that she would feel better eventually. Scott had been right when he had said Peter was a monster though and if they knew that she had been learning to accept that monster as her father…they would hate her, they would all hate her. Malia had gotten used to having friends, a family again and she didn’t want to be all alone again so, she was just going to hide under her covers until she could sort her feeling out and then everything would be o k a y.
He knew something was wrong. He had known something was wrong before they left Mexico. Something was on the girls mind and as hard as Stiles was trying not to pry - to give her the space she needed until she came to him - it was driving him crazy. He needed to know what was wrong, he needed to try to fix it. He had hardly touched his own pancakes, watching the girl across from him with a frown as she mindlessly pushed her pancakes around with that sad sad face that made his heart drop. " Malia. " His voice was as soft as his expression, dropping his own fork on the plate and reaching across the table to take her hand in his. He gave it a squeeze, his thumb running over the area between her first finger and thumb. " I’m not going to ask you what’s wrong, I just want you to know you can talk to me about whatever you want, okay? Anything. “
Malia drew his knees up to her chest, poking at her pancakes once more before pushing them away. She would have to feed them to Charlie or else her dad would worry that she hadn't been eating and he really didn't need any more worry. She had already barely explained away the last minute trip to Mexico enough to calm him down, she couldn't tack on not eating with it. The werecoyote didn't like having to keep her dad in the dark though, it wasn't fair to him but, she did and mostly for selfish reasons too. Those top reasons being the fact that she wouldn't be able to take it if her dad called her a murderer, looked at her disgusted and horrified, hated her for being the reason his real family was taken from him.
She pulled her blanket tighter around her shoulders, feeling a new batch of shivers shake her small frame. All she wanted to do was curl up on the couch, under her covers, watching those movies Lydia had left over last time her, Lydia and Kira had had a movie night. Stiles had surprised her by showing up though, smiling wider than he had in a long time, relieved and carefree and she couldn't bring herself to weigh down on his happy mood. Her brown eyes looked upwards at his though as he reached for and held her hand and a small, fond smile bloomed on her sad features as he rubbed her thumb.
"I know, I know." Malia sighed, biting down on her bottom lip before forcing a smile. "I'm just...tired. I haven't been sleeping that well and I think it's just getting to me is all." Malia hated herself just a little bit more for lying to his open and caring face but, she couldn't bare to lose him if he found out she was actually upset over losing the father who could never really be a father let alone her dad. "I'm fine though, no need to worry, Stiles."
werecoyoteinprogress:
"I said what she did was stupid, not her. From what Stiles and Scott have told me she’s smart, like really smart. According to Stiles, smart people sometimes do really stupid things and you just have to forgive them because they did it to try and protect you. Thanks, I’m kind of glad because I really missed him. A cat? Can a CT scan do that?"
"Well, yes, Stiles is right about that. Smart people can do stupid things, especially depending on what they’re smart about. When they do it with good intentions, it’s a good idea to forgive them. And a CT scan- No, it won’t turn him into a cat. But I joked that he sort of acted like a pissed off cat, you know when they try and just do things just to upset you because it’s fun for them. The scan was to make sure that his brain is still okay."
"He usually is. I'm kind of figuring that out now, forgiveness and stuff like that." Malia said, shrugging with a sheepish grin. "That sounds like Stiles, Her sheepish grin widened as an amused laugh escaped her lips as the mental image of Stiles flailing and hissing at the doctors and nurses like a cat who didn't want to have a bath. Immediately she frowned though and her brown eyes widened in fear and worry, "His brain? I thought he just had a concussion, is something wrong with his brain?"
”Hey…” he said looking at the other. It’s been a year since he last saw them and he didn’t even really say goodbye. Not in person. He text them when he was at the airport before take off.
Malia replayed that night over in her head a thousand times;
She had kissed him goodbye that night when he dropped her off and told him that she would see him tomorrow. he had hugged her tight and kissed her forehead in that way that made her feel special and that had been it. Then, she had woken up to a buzzing phone and then her heart had dropped into her stomach.
Stiles was gone, he had left her behind just like he had promised to never do. the two days after he left were a blur of tears, shouts , smashing things, and Scott's constant presence by her side. She stared at her phone day and night, willing it to ring or buzz but, after a week she had given up and smashed it to pieces. Going back to school hadn't been easy either and she was struggling more than before. Which is why she was at school late with some stupid tutor who wasn't helping at all and ten seconds away from ripping their throat out, frustrated and upset at the whole world.
Then, there was that scent, that scent from a jacket hidden in her closet where it had been since he had left. Stiles . Malia didn't know where she was going but, she had to follow it, if he was here again. She stopped short as she whirled around a corner, eyes comically wide as she saw him for the first time in a year and she completely froze.
"...Hey?" Malia repeated against a dry throat, unable to bring herself to move closer to him but, unwilling to leave as she stared at him, wondering if she was hallucinating again or if Stiles was really here.

Malia smiled, soft and sleepy, as he turned to face her and his eyes met hers with a smile of his own. “Good because I’m pretty sure my back is still healing from being tossed against a freaking stone table.” She said, with a small wince as she squirmed for a moment before settling into his touch, nuzzling into it with a small pleased sound. “It’s nothing, just thinking about..stuff." You can’t tell him, Malia. If you tell him, he’ll hate you.
Stiles looked at her as she kept his eyes on her body language. “Do you want a massage? It may help some of the tension.” She spoke softly as he moved his hand to her shoulder and massaged it gently for her after he heard the wince. “Okay let me see because you shouldn’t be wincing, you should be healed, unless wolfsbane was on the table.” He sighed before he looked at her carefully. “Nothing will make me run Malia. But if you don’t want to tell me, it’s okay.”
"If you think it'll help, I'll try anything." Malia said, rolling her shoulders as she moved onto her stomach. Another wince covered her features as he rubbed her shoulder but, it faded soon after. "I know, it hurt the whole trip back but, I figured it'd be gone when I woke up." The blonde sat up, carefully and moved to pull her shirt off but, stopped at his steady look. "I know you won't, that's why I love you but, I just...I don't know even how to tell you." Malia said, quietly as she looked up at his open and caring face.
"Your welcome." Her smile widened as his lips brushed hers and she captured his lips once more before pulling away. "It was, not better than deer. But, your dad said we could have that next time." She lifted her hand, stroking his cheek. "Yeah, that one, pouty. It’s not fair at all." Malia said, pulling her hand away and pulling a small cardboard box out from behind her. "Plus, I brought you pizza, so you should be smiling."
Stiles couldn’t stop smiling, they were all alive, safe and happy with each other. It was the best thing he could have, happiness. He was glad he found it with Malia, and very happy that she had brought him pizza. “Of course I am smiling, I’m with you, but the pizza is good too. Where’s my laptop, we can put a movie on. And why is my pout not fair?” He asked before sitting up and pulling her into his arms. “Oh, and deer… really? Do I have to eat it? Give me the creeps of me eating deer. I’m human remember.”
"I like it when you smile like that, all happy. I like that I can make you smile like that." Malia said, a blush painting her cheeks. "It's still on your desk. We could always try and watch that Space Wars movie you like so much. Because you're already cute and that pout makes you like ten times cuter and then I can't even try to say no." A content sigh passed her lips as he held her and she leaned her head against his shoulder. "It'll be fine, Stiles, he said it was just like steak."
Losing Your Memory - Malia & Stiles
She shivered as she walked along a quiet street, the rain drenching her and causing her sweater to cling to her thin frame. It didn’t matter though, all that mattered was finding the boy with the bright eyes that promised safety. It was like her head was this jumbled, empty mess and the only thing that made sense was this voice in her head telling her to find this boy who would make everything better.
The blonde girl stopped at a small house with a jeep in the driveway and knocked on the door, hesitantly. Her eyes widened when the door opened and revealed the boy she was looking for. “Hi…umm…I know this is probably crazy but, I just…I had to find you.” She said, swallowing. “I’m so glad I found you.” She said, a wobbly smile on her lips.
"Malia, what?" Stiles pulled her inside and hugged her close. She’s not answered a single text for two days and he’d been worried sick. "No it’s not crazy at all. Are you okay?"
He brushed her wet hair out of her eyes and ran his other hand down her arm. Both hands came away red and he gasped. “Are you hurt? What happened? No okay tell me in a minute. Let’s get you dry.”
Taking her hand he started to lead her upstairs. She was back and safe and yeah he was thinking he’d never let her leave again. Selfish and a bit overly possessive for sure but he’d been scared, was scared.
"Malia? Is that me? I am Malia?" She asked, body melting instinctively against his as he hugged her, everything felt safe and normal for a moment and she sighed as he pulled away. Her brown eyes stayed on his face as his amber eyes trailed over her body though, widening as they both saw blood. "I..I don't know."
She bit her lip against the sudden sting of tears in her eyes. "I don't know. I just..I woke up and my head was pounding but, my feet just kind of brought me here. I don't think I'm hurt but, my head is killing me and there's all this blood and I don't know whose it is or where it came from or what...what I did." The blonde held on tightly to his hand as he led her upstairs. "So, we know each other?"
"I couldn’t just leave you there, all pouty and stuff." She grinned, leaning in close with a teasing grin. "I might’ve even brought you back pizza."
"Well thank you." He moved his lips closer to his girlfriends and teasingly brushed his lips across hers. "Mmm pizza sounds good." He grinned and pouted. "You mean this pouty face?"
"Your welcome." Her smile widened as his lips brushed hers and she captured his lips once more before pulling away. "It was, not better than deer. But, your dad said we could have that next time." She lifted her hand, stroking his cheek. "Yeah, that one, pouty. It's not fair at all." Malia said, pulling her hand away and pulling a small cardboard box out from behind her. "Plus, I brough you pizza, so you should be smiling."
