She’s soaking wet in the middle of the day. Soggy paw prints leading a well worn trail from a certain someone’s bedroom… It was only a matter of time, honestly.

"aw..." he just knew. he knew the day would come, and thought that he would be ready for it, but that was just pure naivety. or perhaps it was hubris. to think that he could have his cake and eat it too? jack russell should know better. a dash across soggy shag to his bedroom got him there just in time to see his water bed gurgle out its last few drops. it was dead. "I had some good times on that thing. we had some good times on that thing. aww..." he wasn't mad. not at her. but he was disappointed. what was he supposed to sleep on now? a mattress?

anyway I moved everything I could downstairs and my three days of furniture hell are over so I should be around later

since jack has never really participated in any line-wide events, here's some little headcanons as to what he was up to during the greatest hits:

secret wars (1984): jack did not participate in the all the mayhem on battleworld, but did try to step up and pick up some of the slack that the missing heroes left behind. for those few months, he was more or less the main superhero of los angeles.

mutant massacre: jack did not participate in mutant massacre, but the morlok tunnels eventually became the site of monster metropolis, which would be relevant to him later.

infinity gauntlet: he was among the half of heroes snapped away, and eventually restored to life.

onslaught: you know he wouldn't touch that shit with a ten foot pole.

civil war: this is where things get interesting. jack was nominally pro-registration due to his history with iron man. the werewolf's animal abilities were put to work tracking down some anti-reg holdouts. he was stark's envoy to the marvel monsters, who he could not convince to join the fighting. when goliath was killed, jack ended all of his involvement in the civil war.

secret invasion: the werewolf was able to sniff out skrulls, and it and the marvel monsters did some battle against them. jack was on the periphery, just off screen, during the central park battle.

dark reign/siege: after norman osborn assumed the levers of power, HAMMER went after the marvel monsters, jack included. he had a particularly nasty, knock down, drag out wolf fight with daken. monster metropolis was being established at this time, and when daken hacked frank castle into pieces, jack was among the monsters who gave him his... new lease on life

avengers vs x-men: see onslaught

secret wars (2015): jack was on earth when the incursion with the ultimate universe happened, and was briefly erased from existence

civil war II: once again, jack took iron man's side and opposed the exploitation of ulysses, but this time refused to get involved in any way.

secret empire: jack was part of the resistance against hydra and the impostor captain america, hitting the regime guerilla style along the west coast.

blood hunt: always rearing and ready to rip when it comes to all things dracula, he reveled in the chance to fight the vampire menace alongside the avengers and his supernatural buddies.

what jack russell would never admit, in so many words, was that he did like being treated a bit like an animal. there were all sorts of tells. like a loyal hound, he would always come running to her calls, ready to follow her about her day or into the depths of hell. like an obedient hound, when she pulled back his head by his shorthairs to reveal his soft underbelly, the quiver of his body stole his breath away. what she had was a privilege, one of the most exclusive there was--- to tug on that leash, to bring him to heel. but animals, certainly dogs, were territorial beasts. jack had his moods too. to scratch, to gnaw, to claim. he wasn't going to give up their intimate little struggle for control without a fight. he may lose it, as he often did, but god was he graceful in defeat. and she, so magnificent in her victory. she could nip at his most tender flesh all she liked, and he knew that she would. leave all of the little marks that showed through his wide-collared shirts like trophies that she liked. it got his blood running hot, and it was giving him oh so many little ideas. his turn was coming. "you're goddamn right I do---" there was the composure again. there was that steely jawed gunslinger again. there was that commando again. the grip on her hips relaxed, and those wide hands of his splayed out into her fur. they plowed ten lanes against the grains of her fur, coming to rest right where the thin strings of her top came together. jack was no boy scout, but he did know one certain knot like the back of his hand--- hers. he knew exactly which loop to tug on, exactly which strand to follow up on, and exactly what would happen when he did them. one pull, two pull, and it unraveled into his lap. it remained to be seen who would end up unraveled in who's lap. "---and don't you forget it, either." the words died against her lips when he went in for another taste of them, hungrier than ever. he may have only had human teeth, but the message he nibbled into her bottom lip should have read all the same--- he was still the biggest dog in the room.

Pupils began to dilate, widening despite the warm glow about the place from the slowly setting sun flooding in through the large windows behind him. Greer slowly peels back, sitting up straighter over his lap, arms sliding down from around his shoulders as his strong hands push up through her fur. The feeling is always welcomed, it sends her tail quivering behind her as a delectable shiver runs up her spine. As his fingertips grave the thin string of her bikini top. He’s a pro by now; arms lay slack by her sides so as not to halt the pull of gravity as Jack loosens the hold in two expert tugs. It falls between them but Greer doesn’t make a move to toss it aside. She’s got a whiff of something in the air, a little mood enhancer, a little game changer.

Her eyes, forever unblinking, watch him keenly as he leans in closer, breathes his empty little warnings so sweetly against black lips. Greer twitches a smile against his kiss, keeps herself from pressing more hungrily into it like she wants to. Eyes move over his ear to look out the window. She wanders briefly what the moon will look like tonight when it eventually comes out — she can’t remember what stage of its phase it’s in.

Though she’s got a feeling it might have something to do with his sudden desire to lay claim.

As he slowly peels back to look at her Greer’s eyes bore into his; the top portion of her tail swishing quickly back & forth while she ponders her next move. Now she’s not normally one to lay down without a fight; she’ll hiss & spit & claw before she does. & the instinct is there, don’t you worry about that. The beast is baring its teeth at him behind the cage door...

To push back, or to lay down & take it?

She blinks slowly at him, rare enough of a distraction that he might not notice the ghost of a smirk on her lips.

“Yes, Jacob.”

Fuck it — she’ll try anything twice.

jack was all too aware of the ticking clock, counting down to the expiration date of their little evening delight. the grandfather clock in the corner of his study hardly needed to chime out the time--- it was all instinct and habit now. there were two hours until he went away and something awful took his place. he would steal every second of them and make off like a bandit into that full moonlit night, that he could be sure of. all of their moments together, passionate or quiet, were his own little acts of resistance against an indifferent universe. that greedy, rebellious little man didn't waste a moment. as soon as he'd freed her from her top, those paws of his were all over her. filling them amply with her breasts. his fingers kneaded the tender flesh, and his calloused thumbs pressed heavy circles into her sensitive buds. nice and slow at first, to let the texture of his thumbs stiffen her up. busy hands gave way to busy lips. where his thumbs would leave, his mouth would follow. his hot breath heralded his wet lips, eagerly pulling her left breast into his damp embrace. blue eyes met her piercing yellowish gaze. never in his life could jack win a staring contest with greer, but he would always try. sooner or later, the thoughts of what she might be seeing within him would always cause him to blink, or to break, or even once, to weep. "yes, jacob." the name always cut through him like butter. his real name, the name he kept hidden away from the world. only a handful of people had known it, and only one of them knew exactly how to use it effectively. damn her. with a wet pop, jack, jacob, released her from his mouth. "that's how it's gonna be, huh?" he recognized the challenge. like any of his other trials, he wasn't going to take it sitting down. oh no. with a fluid motion, his arms snaked their way under her thighs. he stood from his armchair and brought her up along with him. now standing, it was clear just how stiff her hairpulling and gentle taunting had made him. damn her again. "you sure you can back up all that tough talk?" he could challenge her, too. he needed to be sprawled out. he needed to sprawl her out. it was off to the bedroom, away from that dreadful script and taunting clock.

Cats & people share many similarities: moods could turn on a dime, rub someone the wrong way & they’re liable to take a swipe, everybody needs a bit of reassurance every now & then. Now no one could call Jack inattentive — but when Greer gets in her moods, she’s not settling for anything less than all eyes on her. Jack should count his lucky stars that the only souls in his swanky pad were theirs.

In no mood for subtlety, the cat-woman draped herself into her lovers’ lap like a dropped towel: draping her furry arms over his shoulder like a coat placed delicately over them. As soon as his words left his lips & that silly script was discarded without so much as a groan of protest, Greer began to purr. Jaw angled into his tender touch as she ran the length of it over his knuckles. She would never say out loud how much of these pet-like attentions she adored. She wasn’t an animal, but boy — did she really enjoy feeling like it sometimes.

His kiss was returned with the same reverence he gave it, paw sliding up into his shaggy hair from the base of his skull & fisting firmly, perhaps a tiny bit possessively. You’d be hard pressed to find a cat or a girl that would willingly share this prized catch around. Maybe she should give him some grace, maybe she shouldn’t tug too forcefully on that leash she’s got him on.

Maybe he should stop being so generous with her so she doesn’t keep taking advantage.

She smiles crookedly as he whispers against her cheek, turning her head toward him, ducking beneath his chin to rub the side of her face against it. “Shut up,” she chuckles under her breath, latching onto his earlobe with her sharp teeth to give him a warning nip. Rough tongue soothes the sting, purring strong & steady against his ear as his desperate grip on her hips betrays his suave little guise. She supposes he’s owed an answer to his endearing question… She swallows her smart-ass little retort & swaps it for something sweeter.

“You do. And you do it best.”

of all the things I wished carried over from the classic werewolf by night era, I wish they kept jack as spider-woman's buddy. it's so fun! he's her weird neighbor who fights her sometimes and helps her other times. the loose ends from his series sort of get tied up in hers. she gets to stare at him with his shirt off. it's a win win no matter how you look at it

jack never would finish that script, and the notes he was supposed to give with it, at this rate. these weeks that had passed since he confessed his love had passed in a blissful blur between his sheets, out in the streets, and under the stars. it was hard to find the time for anything else. he didn't want to find it. everything he wanted he had right here. to hell with that script, and to hell with everything else. when all of that everything slinked onto his lap in that quiet way of hers, jack took the message loud and clear. he didn't need any more convincing to pull his attention away from the absolutely enrapturing dialogue found in the pages of peril over siancong. "my little pussycat... c'mere." maybe some of the warmth in his voice would come through when he ran the back of his fingers along her jaw, and maybe even more when he followed that with a kiss. a happily swishing tail knocked the script from the table and into a heap on the floor, but, somehow, jack couldn't find a care in the world. "so needy..." he would murmur against her cheek. whether he was talking about himself or herself, was unclear. "who loves you, baby?" maybe the way he reached for her hips would remind her. he was certainly talking about himself now. tomorrow. tomorrow he would finish that script. for sure.
