for three long months, the werewolf was in the dark. when greer vanished into thin air during a heated argument on how often journey should be played on the radio, he looked to the avengers for help. they were gone too. so were most of the who's who of their community. the world had turned upside down. those who were left, jack included, had to pick up the slack.
for three months, he was, to the best of his ability, the defender of los angeles. he hated every minute of it. by day, he would mostly think of greer. he wondered where she was, what on or off earth she could be doing. he thought about how cold his bed was, how quiet his house was. by night, the werewolf brought down violent crime by thirty-four percent after a few maulings hit the evening news. it was like working a nine-to-five, and jack russell would die before he got a real job.
when jarvis phoned ahead to tell him that the quinjet was enroute with the missing avengers, and leave some innuendo, jack came running. by the time he got to the compound, the jet had already landed. but someone was waiting for him.
jack had only done this in movies before, never in person. never for real. but his feet brought him to a run. and that tiger he spotted ran much faster, kicking up dust in her wake. so fast that he barely had the time to stop and brace himself. greer pounced him as though he were a gazelle, and if not for his sturdy boot, would have tackled him right to the ground. her legs around his waist, his arms around her middle, and their foreheads pressed together, they tangled up together like no time at all had passed.
jack's smile was so wide that it hurt his face. "as I was saying, they can take that small town girl shit and shove it." the joy of finally getting to hold her again after the three worst months of his life would never stop him from getting the last word in. "I taped every episode of dynasty you missed." it was another way of saying the other thing he had on his mind. "I love you, greer." there was so much time to make up for.
