Wes Perry returns to the Upstairs Gallery.
Every Thursday in January at 8pm.
All shows are BYOB / FREE.
Making Out with Wes Perry and Friends, at the Hideout December 29, 2013.
performance at the Kelly Writers House on the University of Pennsylvania campus in Philadelphia
“Wes Perry, a talented singer, comedian, and writer, curates this monthly show with some of Chicago’s funniest, edgiest, and rawest talent. You don’t really know what to expect, but know that you’ll probably see something unlike any other variety show — whether it’s comedy, dance, poetry, stories, improv, burlesque, or whatever else can be done on a stage.”
- Splitsider’s Guide to Chicago’s Comedy Scene
"When you meet Wes Perry for the first time, you know you are in the presence of fierceness. This Tuesday evening, while battling a stomach flu, I met up with Perry for drinks and loaded tater tots at Mary's Attic in Andersonville, and I was immediately struck by his larger than life stature.
Cloaked in an oversized coat and his signature beard, Wes Perry left the blue lipstick at home yet brought the wit, charm and delicate humility that's a signature of the Perry brand."
“Making Out is peerless in Chicago: a variety show that blends real, old-school variety with an evolved sense of inclusivity.”
MAKING OUT @ THE HIDEOUT
You can read the press release here!
If you’re looking for an evening to confirm that you’re in the right place at the right time, with warmth, smarts, teeth, and the jumbled perfection of laughing together, it’s on Clark Street for the taking every third Wednesday of the Month, when Making Out with Wes Perry and Friends sets up shop at Upstairs Gallery.
If you’re anything like me, the evening will leave you hopeful, with fresh gut-churning resolve to fling yourself into making your own contributions to your community, nurtured by the insightful and uproariously fun work of your neighbors. And as you walk the short distance back to your apartment, radiating that deeply fed feeling, you might find yourself whispering each visible breath into the bitterly cold snow, watching it dissipate, reaching it’s warm, fluid fingers out, out, out as you renew your vow. “I love you, Chicago.”
MAKING OUT - FEBRUARY
Making Out is the best way to stay warm this winter, so we’re cuddling up with Kokumo Kinetic, Aarón Alonso, Philip Markle, Heather Marie Vernon, Seth Dodson, Christina Boucher, and more to be announced!
Put On A Happy Face
Recorded live at the DfbrL8r Gallery in Chicago, as part of The Great Refusal Presents: Taking On Queer Performance.
Undecided
This is the opening monologue and song from September. It involves SNL, jealousy, and some unforgettable advice. This song is originally by Ella Fitzgerald, and there is a quick afterthought about how exactly does The Music Box pick their movies!?
Recorded live at Making Out with Wes Perry and Friends, on September 19th at the Upstairs Gallery in Chicago. For more on Making Out, go here!
The opening number from this month’s Making Out with Wes Perry and Friends. A slightly somber story, paired with a new song by Rufus Wainwright.
Poor Choices Podcast 163: Act Like A Lady with Wes Perry
