Happy reading!
If you’re in the mood to read a YA novel about killer plants taking over the world and there being similar themes to what’s happening right now, highly recommend BLOOM by Kenneth Oppel.
This book is very surprisingly timely. I’m still reading it, but it’s intense. It’s being marketed as middle grade, but honestly, this reads like a YA horror novel.
Just wanted to share!
Happy reading!
Superman Smashes the Klan (2020)
The year is 1946. Teenagers Roberta and Tommy Lee just moved with their parents from Chinatown to the center of Metropolis, home to the famous hero, Superman. Tommy makes friends quickly, while Roberta pines for home. Then one night, the family awakens to find their house surrounded by the Klan of the Fiery Kross! Superman leaps into action, but his exposure to a mysterious green rock has left him weak. Can Roberta and Tommy help him smash the Klan?
Inspired by the 1940s Superman radio serial “Clan of the Fiery Cross,” New York Times bestselling author Gene Luen Yang (American Born Chinese, Boxers and Saints, The Terrifics, New Super-Man) and artist Gurihiru (Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Unstoppable Wasp) bring us a personal retelling of two different immigrants finding ways to belong.

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in the US!Â
You can learn more about it on the official website, but the quick summary of it is: “Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have a rich heritage thousands of years old and have both shaped the history of the United States and had their lives dramatically influenced by moments in its history.”Â
This month, we’d like to celebrate some of the incredible Asian/Pacific American authors who have helped shape the NaNoWriMo community—from NaNo Coaches to Camp Counselors, from Pep Talkers to participants! If you’d like to support these authors, buy a copy of their latest book (or check out the e-book from your library). Links to the authors’ websites below.

Earlier today, J.K. Rowling tweeted her support for Maya Forstater, a woman who lost her job after tweeting anti-trans messages. J.K. Rowling’s tweet contained the underlying message that although trans people can “dress however please” and “call whatever ” want, at the end of the day, they are still kidding themselves. Although Rowling
In December, we put together a list of trans books by trans authors in response to J.K. Rowling’s comments on twitter. While our Tumblr wasn’t the most active last year, we’re sharing this now because these books deserve to be promoted and supported all the time, not simply when someone in the spotlight makes transphobic comments.Â
Let’s get cozy.
