Kade rocked his chair back on two legs and planted his feet on the desk, patently bored. His continuing education video droned on and on about elementary safety checks which, while important, wasnât something that a seasoned fire fighter like himself particularly needed a refresher on. Especially when he and Heatwave spent a week every school year drilling the exact same information into the heads of excitable elementary school children. At least their presentation had way more entertainment valueâŠ.
âSheesh, this guy could give Mayor Luskey a run for his money, how long is this video?â Kade had just started to reach for the computer mouse when a loud honk from outside startled him. Picking himself and his chair up off the floor, the fire fighter stalked to the window and leaned out to see an ambulance parked in the driveway below.
âHey! What gives??? Shouldnât you be over at the hospital or something?â
Rob's human avatar remains still as requested until Trex declares it is done with the scan. He listens to what Kade has to say and the reply. A smile reaches his eyes, making them crinkle at the slightly wrinkled edges.
"I've not had the chance to see if this avatar can taste. I'd be willing to try out a beverage at least." he remarks as he follows alongside Kade. His robot form left behind as his focus is on the avatar he inhabits.
âDoc and Boulder have been working on advanced avatars for the bots for a while now, thereâs a bunch of high tech science-y stuff involved in itâŠâ
Doc Greene met them at the door with a chuckle. âA rather simplistic description of the process, but I suppose itâs accurate in itâs own way.â He held out a hand to Robustus. âEzra Greene, but my friends call me âDoc.ââ
Kade was sniffing the air hopefully and made quick introductions. âRobustus, Doc Greene, Doc Greene, RobustusâŠ. Do I smell grilled cheese???â
A slightly surprised look crosses the avatar's face at what Kade just said about working on the Bots technology. "I'm honestly surprised to hear that Kade." Robustus relates.
He turns his attention to Doc Greene and accepts the other man's hand. His grip is carefully measured and his flesh feels warm as it should. Physical holomatter technology has come a long way since it was first made that was for sure.
"As Kade said my full name is Robustus, but you may address me as Rob." he intones with a smile, "He seems distracted by food at the moment, but we were hoping you could help with something for Kade's demonstration to the school children for fire safety." a significant look towards the younger man, "Like a clear enclosure that's easy to carry around by one individual."
Ezra chuckled as Kade breezed past him with single minded purpose and listened closely while Robustus filled him in on their original mission.
âNot surprising. Kadeâs focus is perpetually on filling his stomach. Please, come in.â He lapsed into a thoughtful silence as he led the medic toward the kitchen. Kade was already there, helping himself to a stack of grilled cheese sandwiches, a big bowl of tomato soup, and pickles.
âI believe I can manage that quite simply, any other specifications?â
Kade finally managed to join the conversation with a huge swallow. â⊠Yeah, itâd have to be heat resistant. Iâm planning on containing a burning candle with it to show what happens when you deprive a fire of oxygen, I donât want the thing shatteringâŠ.â
Doc Greene nodded, making a note on the tablet heâd retrieved from his pocket. Politely, he turned to Robustus. âSince weâre having lunch, did you need some energon?â He gazed at the avatar thoughtfully for a moment longer before asking, âdoes your avatar allow you to give the illusion of earth food consumption?â
A chuckle from Rob's avatar at the mention of Kade focusing on eating. "I've noticed that as well." he notes in good humor as he follows Ezra to the kitchen where Kade is digging into a meal already.
"What he said plus an easy way to access the enclosure. Make it fool proof and possibly shatter proof just in case. No need to expose any children to glass shards if we can help it." Rob notes with a smile.
He considers the questions a moment then replies, "I recently had a intake of energon so I'm fine there. The avatar can simulate many things like breathing, eating, and drinking. It can even convert the food to energy if needed, otherwise its rendered into a substance we can rid of easily."
Doc Greene added a few more notes to his tablet before transferring the data to his workstation for easy reference once he actually got started on the project.
Setting a sandwich and two pickles on a plate, the scientist brought them to the table before going to the stove and carefully ladling out a bowl of soup. âFascinating. I constructed a hologram projector for Blades so he could attend an off-island event disguised as a human, I had no idea you bots already possessed the ability to produce such lifelike avatars.â
He placed his bowl on the table and looked excitedly at Robustus. âOr is this something that youâve become capable of through your own means?â
