BAND OF THE WEEK - 9/23/2012: Shorthand
Shorthand, a punk rock band based in Scranton, PA. They've only released a three song demo via bandcamp but all three songs rock real hard. They're fast paced, catchy, and make your insides tingle. Of the three songs, Nameless is my favorite. The other two songs are fantastic as well, but this one really takes the cake for me. It's got a slow intro with a nice riff and then speeds up a bit, but not going very fast. I'd say Nameless is the song to listen to if you want to get into this band but everyone has their own opinions. This is definitely a band to listen to if you're into bands like Polar Bear Club, Crucial Dudes, and Young English. Click "Read More" to listen to Shorthand.

REVIEW: Adventures - S/T
Adventures is a 5-piece emo/indie rock band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The band is a side project of the members of Code Orange Kids. They’ve released their self-titled debut EP through No Sleep Records. FFO: Meg and Dia, Eisley, Tegan and Sara
1. Feel So Sure (4.5/5)
Opening riff is amazing. Sets the ambience of the song and the album as a whole so well. Vocals are kinda shaky but it fit’s the melancholic aura of the song. Lyrics are deep and delivered with such strong emotion. Definitely a great way to open the album. 2. Walking (4/5) This song flowed in from the closing riffs of the first track. It has the same aura as the first track. The vocals in this song is a bit of step up from the first track due to the fact that they showed some diversity from adding in a little screaming in some parts of the song. Lyrically, it’s a bit vague but it lets you have your interpretation about it which is pretty much a good thing. This album is two for two for me now. 3. Like Seed (4.5/5) More screaming. Awesome. This track is a bit more fast-paced than the first two tracks (though not so much). The interplay between the female and male vocals worked well as they harmonize so well. The lyrics of the song is amazing and is probably the most well-written lyrics in this album delivered in an intense way totally giving emphasis to the fact that they are talking about their fear. 4. Reach Out To You (5/5) And then there was this track. The most upbeat and the most punk rock song in the whole album. Caught me off guard when I first listened to this album since I was in this mood that they set up in the first three songs then… BAM! They hit me with this. It’s awesome though as it gives the album some sort of different flavor. There are parts of this song where they’ve slowed it down a little bit and that is towards the end when they delivered the most intense moments of the song. Overall, it’s a great way to end the album. Overall: 4.5/5 I love this album. Topnotch music from top to bottom. It’s not usually my bread and butter music-wise but it kept my interest (and believe me, its hard to keep my interest music-wise) and actually left me wanting for more. I totally recommend everyone to check this EP out and this band out. Their awesome. - Jay Encina https://www.facebook.com/pages/Adventures/218170428201414
