Why are so many of you okay with being wrong on this poll? Is haunting only for ghosts? No!

You can be haunted by so many things. The memories of past love, the decisions you’ve made, and many other things.

And what of the charming idea of having your usual haunt as in the place where you can usually be found? Those patrons haunt the bar, whether they are beloved or dispised. The haunting is not about the line between life and death, it is about the line between presence and absence!

I could haunt a house if I was sneaky enough and decided to gaslight the residents. A cat can haunt the alleys of the street if you approach it from the perspective of the mice.

And this returns us to the graph. At the very top right corner of detected and malicious you have alien invasion. This is not haunting. At the bottom left you have Starfleet scientists peacefully observing a growing civilization. The top left corner would be aliens coming in peace.

So there is a question of what level of detection and malicious actions make a haunting, but you are all greatly misunderstanding the true meaning of haunting.

those are alternate definitions of haunting though, you can't ask a question about what constitutes breaking someone's heart and then say that all of the replies are wrong because "none of these things would actually make the human heart function improperly", just as you can't ask if aliens can haunt and then say the replies are wrong because haunt could also be a synonym for lurk, or prowl
