[Reporter Notebook] Mamamoo Whee In, V Live Incident Truth↔Because of ‘Show Me the Money’? “There was no swearing.”
[MoonHwan News MHN Reporter Lee Choonghee] The V Live Incident of girl group Mamamoo’s Whee In was examined.
On the 26th, Whee In spent time connecting with fans through the Naver V Live broadcast. She became the center of gossip attention as talk of her swearing in English and using vulgar words while drinking were reported.
However the truth was vastly different. Swear words had not once come out of Whee In’s mouth during the broadcast. She did drink 3 shots of soju, however, during the V Live. A reporter who had participated in the broadcast confessed, “She never uttered swear words or used vulgar language during the broadcast,” and, “there was only talk of every day life and conversation with fans.”
Last 26th around 10 PM, Whee In met up with fans in a long while and started chatting about tattoos while joking around with fans in the ‘Show Me the Money’ concept with everyone in a cheerful atmosphere.
Whee In is a fan of hip hop and while talking with fans about ‘Show Me the Money,’ she emphasized that she was a huge fan and then proceeded to talk about her dinner menu ‘steamed clams,’ which was elaborated later in rumors to be words of misogyny.
During the broadcast Whee In said, “Today I’m going to go for that hip hop feel,” and started the V Live to show off her dinner.
This is where the problem started. To continue the hip hop concept, the title “Umma Pumpkin LesGerrit” was used for the broadcast. After fans warned Whee In about the title, she changed it to “Drop the Steamed Clams LesGerrit.” ‘Umma Pumpkin’ is the Korean expression of the unpleasant word ‘Mother Pumpkin.’
After the broadcast ended, many fans asked for an apology for the drinking and the title of the broadcast and after the lengthy apology announcement was posted, the public and gossipers wrote exaggerated stories and triggering falsified reports that began to spread.
Whee In had messaged fans through the paid V Live chatting and followed up with a V Live in the free for public channel where she had drank lightly. Also, her ’I think I’m going to get ruined’ saying was part of the lyrics of a song by Dok2 that was to further the hip hop concept.
Mamamoo Whee In had already uploaded an apology right away despite the misunderstandings and falsified truths to avoid further trouble, yet the exaggerated tales still circulate.
Whee In is from Jeollabuk-do Jeonju and has a cute appearance and cheerfulness with no rumored troubled history but with this incident it would seem that she will be returning to fans as a more grown up Mamamoo, who will be more cautious with their actions and words.

[170308] Jungkey X Wheein [EMPTY] Making
Interview with #Wheein
Q. Hello. Please introduce yourself.
Hello. I am Mamamoo’s Wheein. I feel happy that I am able to meet everyone like this through Jungkey’s project.
Q. How do you feel about working together with Jungkey?
He is a musician whom I always find his music good. I am very happy that he wanted to work with me. I was very excited to have met him in real life. In the process, he took care of me a lot so I was able to sing comfortably. I think I will remember this as a very very enjoyable work experience.
Q. You participated in the title song ‘It’s A Burden’ as a vocalist, how do you personally feel about this song?
As soon as I listened to the song, I had a feeling like “Ah~ this is great”. I also think that this song matches well with my voice. I believe that it is a good song that will receive love from everyone.
Q. Do you have any plans or goals for the future?
Personally, although vocal is vocal, I have been carrying interest in composing songs and lyrics too. Therefore, my dream and goal is to become an artist who makes music that will receive lots of love, rather than myself.
Q. Last but not least, please say something to your fans.
Now, winter is leaving and the warm spring is coming. While enjoying the approaching Spring air, please show lots of love and interest to the song ‘It’s A Burden’ that Jungkey sunbaenim and I worked together on. (As opposed to the name of the title, this is a song that you will listen to comfortably without burden. ^^) Thank you.
