June 26, Sun — RCC London to Amsterdam (day 3, 86 km ) Route: Amsterdam to Hook of Holland (then train back to London from Harwich) – Strava entry
The infamous Dutch headwind. Couldn’t have left without getting a taste of it. Flowers’ perfume from all over the dunes comes with it though, almost wiping away the suffering.
June 25, Sat — RCC London to Amsterdam (day 2, 107 km ) Route: Hook of Holland to Amsterdam – Strava entry
Endless bike lanes straight across the sand dunes, rabbits running along, deer grazing here and there, Highland cattle in the Lowlands,… strange place, like riding on a different planet. Mesmerizing.
June 24, Fri — RCC London to Amsterdam (day 1, 154 km ) Route: London to Harwich – Strava entry
Just 70 km in, waist-deep in one of the several flooded Essex roads, bike on the shoulder. Already thinking “best ride of the year”.
March 20, Sun — 80 km Route highlights: Essex loop via Moreton & Blackmore – Strava entry
A spectacular sudden move from winter to spring just before Moreton, a lovely old couple on a tandem overtaking us on a descent (wish I'd taken a photo of them). Fine tea and granola bar at Meggarys, as always.
March 13, Sun — 84 km Route highlights: Essex loop to Blackmore via Willingale – Strava entry
Superb sunny day out with the RCC chaps. Feeling a bit sad on the way back, wishing it wouldn’t end.
March 6, Sun — 70 km Route highlights: Essex (Banks Lane, Toot Hill, Kelvedon Hall Ln, Dudbrook Rd, Broxhill Rd) – Strava entry Wildlife: one chupacabra (kidding, I think it was a young deer)
Still cold, but sunny & beautiful. A couple of new roads on the way, plus a tower that I’ve been hoping to see up close for a while.
February 28, Sunday — 78 km Route highlights: London (West Hampstead) to Wheathampstead and back – Strava entry
February 14, Sun — 56 km Route highlights: Epping Forest (High Beech), Essex (Banks Lane, Tawney Lane) – Strava entry Wildlife: a deer gang crossed the road just in front of me, eight or ten of them
Cold, windy and beautiful. A bit slow.
January 24, Sun — 111 km Route highlights: Essex, ride to Blackmore for tea, back into central east London for coffee – Strava entry
Grim start of the ride, but good fun, and even sunny by the end of it.
January 5, Tuesday — 56 km Route highlights: Epping Forest, Essex – Strava entry
Epic sunshower ride.
December 31, Thu — Festive 500, day 6 — 50 km Route highlights: Essex – Strava entry
Lovely day to finish my Festive 500 challenge, riding with the RCC gang.
December 30, Wed — Festive 500, day 5 — 108 km Route highlights: Essex – Strava entry
By the time the wind's been through all Kamasutra positions with me, the rain decided to join in as well.
