can anyone tell me the watch order for every movie ever so i can understand all references and homages
@dionrevel PLEASE share the link.
Lol sure!!
For movies, here is the beginner's list:
Beginner's guide for getting in the loop.
And the more advanced list:
Advanced guide to getting in the loop. Supplementary to "Civilization Essentials." If a movie is on this list, then it has one of these: -Po
Not all these movies are necessarily good, but the ones that gave me small pop culture epiphanies. It made me realize that 30%-40% of the jokes from modern sitcoms are references/parodies- and these movies are their source material.
^^ This is also true for socializing. So many people I thought were naturally funny were just doing movie bits.
[I actually do have a job, I am just a big fan of lists and graphs and flow charts etc.]
Oh I adore this. As someone who missed a bunch of stuff by way of chaos and poverty. This is a nice tool.
“spicy pillow” jokes aside, I think @flowerkrone’s tags deserve a serious reply:
#my old phone looks like this on my shelf lmao #im too scared to touch it to throw it away #idk what trash this even goes into when its at this point
The pillow-shaped object here used to be the phone’s battery. It’s not a battery anymore. Now it’s a balloon full of corrosive, pyrophoric chemicals and hydrogen gas and it’s one puncture away from burning your house down. I am 100% serious. You should be scared to touch it.
But you gotta touch it, because you gotta get it out of your house before the pressure builds up to the point where the balloon pops. This isn’t going to happen soon – there is no need to panic – but it will happen eventually.
And, indeed, it doesn’t go in the ordinary trash. You put this in the ordinary trash and you’re gonna set the garbage truck on fire. Don’t do that to the garbage collectors, their job is hard enough already.
The first thing you need to do is get a fireproof container. The most common household item that qualifies as a fireproof container is a cast-iron cookpot with a cast-iron lid – often sold as a “Dutch oven.” Any other cooking container that’s unreactive, has a very high melting point, and has a lid made of the same materials will also work: enameled or stainless steel, Pyrex with glass lid, etc.
However: Do not use a pot with a PTFE-based non-stick coating. If the battery does explode, the fire will probably be hot enough to degrade a PTFE coating, producing toxic smoke. (Not that you should breathe the smoke from the battery fire either, but PTFE breakdown products are worse.) Do not use a pot made of aluminium or copper. The fire might even get hot enough to melt those.
Whatever container you use, you might have to throw away along with the phone, so don’t use your good Dutch oven for this. Go to a thrift store and buy a cheap one.
Once you have the fireproof container:
Gently pick up the phone and put it in the fireproof container. If possible, gently tape the phone to the bottom of the container to prevent it from bouncing around. Don’t put any padding in there, that’ll just make a fire worse if it does happen. Put the lid on and tape it shut.
Put a label on the container, something like “DEFECTIVE LI-ION BATTERY – FIRE HAZARD”.
It is now reasonably safe to move the container around. However, if the battery does explode, the container is very likely to leak smoke and get hot, so keep it in a well-ventilated area and away from things that will be damaged by heat. Don’t leave it exposed to the weather, either.
You need to find either a hazardous waste disposal site, or an e-waste recycler that will accept defective Li-ion batteries. I can’t help with that because I have no idea where you live.
However, your local fire department, if you have one, will probably be happy to help. Call their non-emergency number. Nothing is on fire yet, so this isn’t an emergency, but things that can easily start a fire are still within the fire department’s responsibilities. Tell them you have a phone with a bulging lithium-ion battery, you put it in a fireproof container, and you want to know how to dispose of it safely.
If the fire department tries to tell you this isn’t dangerous or it’s okay to throw it out in the regular trash (with or without fireproof container), hang up on them and write a cranky letter to your local government representatives, then keep looking for a proper disposal site.
When you do find a a hazardous waste disposal site or an e-waste recycler, call them and make sure they will take defective Li-ion batteries, before showing up. That’s also a good time to ask if they will let you have the fireproof container back.

Reblogging because I would have had absolutely no idea what to do, either.

no one cares that you shave your legs because of sensory issues shut the fuck up forever
really galling amount of people misinterpreting this post so i'd like to clarify. i'm saying that when discussions about patriarchal beauty standards and the way women are heavily shamed and coerced into eschewing their own natural state of being (hairy) are occurring, it is unhelpful (AT BEST) to interrupt and say that the reason YOU remove the hair from your body is because of sensory issues. that's not what we're talking about. stop asking for validation for doing something that society at large wants you to do. stop derailing the conversation because you feel uncomfortable about being made aware that you, for whatever reason it is, adhere to harmful, unfair and ridiculous beauty standards. you're stepping into the middle of an important conversation that needs to be had and making it all about you. shut the fuck up forever.
also quite frankly i think a lot less people would experience sensory issues if they let their hair grow out so that it isn't bristly and rough and irritating. and i cannot help but wonder why these sensory issues aren't as predominant in men. maybe you're uncomfortable with the hair on your body because you've been taught to be uncomfortable with it. just a thought.
And like. Do you have these same sensory issues in areas you don't shave, like arms and back? Are you dehairing your entire body over this sensory issue? If not, consider that you don't have a sensory issue so much as a "not used to the feeling of hair on legs because society has had you shaving them for years", and be pleased that if you let your hair grow back, your brain will dial the sensory input down once it's used to the new normal.
Verified: Microsoft 365 gets massive 45% price hike — and it's all to do with AI tools (Tom's Guide - January 17, 2025)
oopsie i tripped and spilled my link to archive dot org's downloadable copy of Microsoft office suite for 2007, which features no AI tools and is a powerful word processor that still holds up just fine on windows 10!
Look, it's simple. If a person has to actively work to make money, they're not "the rich" and they're not the problem. A surgeon making $200k a year still stops making money if they stop showing up to do surgery, because they're still selling their labor. The radical discrepancies in how we value different skills are certainly a problem, but the guy who makes money when he doesn't even get out of bed is the one making money on the value of other people's labor.
Time for my favorite chart!

As always, I'm so here for Aabria and her attention to the world, both the small details and the larger implications, how grounded her character is in its histories and realities, using that character knowledge to put things together and move things forward so swiftly elegantly, cutting through confusion and argument.
"Wasn't Thjazi called Shadow?"
Tossing the Iron nail to Julien.
Quickly cutting through all the noise to reveal the truth.
While playing Thaisha, Aabria is so conscious of the world and Thaisha's worldview. As a woman whose religious culture has been persecuted nearly to extinction. As a person from a race that every other race of Aramán was happy to leave in subjugation; the suffering of the Rungjani was a fair price for their comfort.
You can viscerally feel this in her gentle but clear acknowledgement of Bolaire, her tone when she asked him why he was so angry.
"What exactly do you find to be foolishness, Bolaire?"
The calm, despite the fact that, when it comes down to it, he is angry that the actions Thjazi set in motion blew up his comfortable life. The same actions that liberated the Runjani afterlife. He doesn't think "a couple hundred" Rungjani souls are worth it.
"So you're not angry, you're afraid."
It reminded me of when Aranessa was breaking down and overwhelmed because her life was blown up and she has to make hard decisions to move forward. Thaisha used the same gentle, but firm tone then.
"You always had to make a choice and the world was always chaos. It's just touching you now."
There's such weight and truth behind the way Aabria carries Thaisha. I look forward to her Soldier table, but I feel for what the rest of the tables will be losing without her presence.

i'm in Ireland and the search for that bastards name is still blocked and hidden... the legnths the british go to defend and protect their instruments of colonialism and violence is beyond belief. no justice for the victims and yet every measure taken to protect David James Cleary and his fellow murderers.
Never a better time for the Streisand Effect than when it's a government covering up acts of brutality and evil.
if you complain about the Chinese government covering up Tianamen Square, then complain about this, too.

I love my job, but reblogging employment jelly for someone else I love.
“Because the truth is, tech doesn’t have an image problem. It doesn’t have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What’s wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn’t successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What’s wrong is that he’s trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that’s designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn’t that you haven’t told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.”

so the metaphysics/cosmology of the greater world of araman are something i find really interesting, i've explained it a couple times in text already, but i had the thought it might be easier with visuals, so have some diagrams!
(to the best of my lore knowledge, with the understanding that these things do not exist solely in 2d space, so the places i've put them are where was convenient for the connections, not necessarily what actually neighbors what)
so this is what the world looked like for the past few millenia of shaper rule. dead souls end up in the tenebral reaches (the deep dark woods), to be guided on to their respective afterlife from there. some gods had celestial psychopomps, like olbalad, to guide the souls they deemed as theirs. house tachonis did that job for tansul, because their sorcery draws power specifically from that shadow realm, they know it intimately. azgra had a crueler method, and cursed the souls of all dead orcs to follow a river of his own blood directly from araman, through the underworld, and into the dying fields
and lurking underneath it all, the oldest path, the first one ever made. the druids can guide souls themselves, back to this plane in a new form, but they were almost wiped out during the shapers' time, forced to continue their work in secret if they did so at all
sylandri wasn't allowed to keep the elves as immortal as she wanted them, but she wanted them always in the light, to never know the world of shadow. so the stone of nightsong was eventually created, to open a bridge between araman and faerie, such that any mortal injury they did befall, it would carry their souls to faerie directly
with the shapers gone after the war, their psychopomps mostly went with them. the afterlives are theorised to still exist, but with the paths closed, no one could prove it. gavzidra's drying up with no recourse for the souls trapped in it. and with nowhere to go, the dead just pour into that shadow space that can't hope to contain them, swelling precariously as it tries. the old path is more vital than ever now, but it's like trying to drain a bucket of water through a pinhole, there just isn't enough time or druids to make a real dent
and then 8 years ago. the chaotic expanse of necromantic energy bursts directly into faerie and almost kills everyone in it. faerie has no choice but to seal themselves off or die, leaving the golden orchard behind as the last bit of true faerie left in this world
and to the dire state of the present day, prior to opening night at the theatre. the underworld has gotten so big it's started creating only theorised geography, like the sea of lachris. elf souls and orc souls and everyone else who died after the shapers war are lost here somewhere. tachonis are doing whatever the fuck they like with an ever expanding portion of the universe/its people that they see as rightfully theirs
but then thjazi's ritual. blood from gavzidra, made into paint. painted on the walls of an old temple to azgra, reforged into a place of joy and hope for all orc people. hal and shadia and the rest of the ko'therai cast telling a story that reaches across planes, touching the actual souls who lived the story, souls trapped in the dying fields, freed through the repurposing of the same river that brought them there. anchored to this theatre, to the pariah blades in shadia's hands, unaware she holds the legacy of her entire people now. the bridge is open, for thaisha, who's spent her life training to guide lost souls, to show them where to go
the problem: one bridge alone can't keep its form, there's pressure acting on it from all sides, it's shaking and swelling like the underworld has been for 70 years. it needed stability. needed something whose purpose has always been to open a bridge
a triangle can withstand a lot more force than a single line. and with the hope and blessing of vaelus and hannan and every faerie in that theatre, two more bridges were created, anchoring the three planes together and giving the lost souls somewhere else to go. it's still not an open bridge for mortals, and the elf souls who died without a path to faerie are still lost out in the shadow somewhere. but if the stone is still doing its job, the shadow can't interfere with this one. and maybe one day at the end of all this, when hannan and vaelus have found all the elves out there in the dark, they can all return to faerie together
