my friend just showed me the animation for weregoose reviving w/ wendy's gravestone thingy and i can't stop thinking about it. genuinely one of my favorite animations ever. it is so agonized.
gasping and choking on air as life enters his lungs again. the suffocation of being buried alive. the struggle to escape from a grave carved out for somebody much larger than him. It's the torment #Yup

🪡 Carefully stitch the receiver's wound with steady hands.
"I told you, it's not that big! I-
--gh!"
It's useless. Healing salve or not, having her arm stitched up while still awake still hurt like hell... and no matter what she says to try and make the lumberjack think she's doing fine, she knows that there was no way he'd let her walk around with little more than some half-burnt rags on a wound that big.
Maybe that's on her, actually. Telling him that it was fine and worst case scenario she would simply pop out from one of the effigies at base, or that the Merms didn't hit her as bad as usual this time, wasn't taken particularly well. So, Willow scoffs, holding tighter Bernie in her free hand as she forces herself to look away from the operation, pretending she's more bored than in pain.
"...are you almost done?"
Woodie winces sympathetically, a light and barely perceptible half-squint buried underneath thick eyebrows and mounds of hair. Don't flinch, gotta keep his hands steady and his grip firm... but not too firm, don't wanna make it worse...
"Almost. Tryin' to make it quick, sorry..." While gruff and (comparatively) quiet, his voice is twinged with sympathy.
He felt bad, but it still had to be done.
"...Better to hurt a little fixin' it up than to drag it out 'till ya give out, eh?" Bit more resource-efficient that way, too. "Easier to heal an arm now than your whole body later."
"Don't worry, you're in good hands. Woodie's the best there is!" Lucy calls distantly from her spot near the firepit, where he'd set her down earlier. "How'd you get so messed up, anyway? I've never seen those fish cut someone up that bad!"

how long was i out?
it was dark, and i heard voices. i was trying to get out.
don't look at me. i don't want you to see me like this.
tell me the truth. how long was i gone?
who brought me back?
i don't remember what happened. one second i was there, and the next...
you were out for quite some time.
don't worry. i've got you.
i saw you die.
i can't live with myself if you're gone.
i don't know how to function without you here.
wipe those tears away.
i'm right here! there's no need to cry.
something feels off about you.
are you sure you're all right?
you don't sound like yourself.
that wasn't supposed to happen like that.
your death was all my fault.
i never should have gone in there alone.
can you please tell me what happened?
no one is telling me how i died.
i didn't hear anything while i was out.
that was a bit weird.
i'll be fine. just have to deal with this nasty bump on my head.
is that my blood or someone else's?
you were not supposed to do this.
he was supposed to stay dead!
this was never meant to happen this way.
i think you made a mistake in coming back.
i can't live without you.
i'd really like to avoid dying again if i can help it.
is this the first time you've died?
there must be something we can do to bring them back.
i think i can heal them.
death is only the beginning.
maybe you should have stayed dead.
is that really you?
don't ever leave my sight again.
there you are! welcome back! how was it, being dead?
did you see god?
are you the one i should blame?
let's just hope there aren't any consequences to this.
you never should have interfered.
i don't really feel like myself.
ever since i died, i've been feeling sort of strange.
that's what death does. it puts things into perspective.
is death something we should be able to reverse in the first place?
this is a very bad idea.
why can't you just stay dead?
please reverse the spell.
i'm not ready to say goodbye.
His head feels like it's gonna split open.
Pulling himself off the ground, Woodie looks around at all the carnage in the forest; it looked like somebody just bulldozed through a solid chunk of it, or maybe lost ahold of their chainsaw.
"...I better start cleaning up, eh?"
"You've been acting off lately. Are you feeling okay?" Lucy pauses momentarily as her gaze meets Woodie's eyes, humming in thought. "...Is the full moon coming around soon?"
Woodie scratches his head, glancing over his shoulder. He straightens up and leans back to get a look at the moondial in the center of his camp.
He sighs. "Eh, yup, think it's about time."
She was afraid of that.
She wobbles nervously from her seat in the log. "So... Does that mean..."
"No, it ain't for another night. We've got time." He reaches over and picks her up by the handle, rubbing down the back end of her blade rhythmically.
"Okay... okay. Well, we better start getting ready, huh?"
