Welcome to the Writeblr Hunger Games!
What are the Writeblr Hunger Games?
In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, a young girl and boy are chosen from each of the 12 districts of Panem to be tributes who fight to death in a rigged arena. In the Writeblr Hunger Games, writers submit their original character(s) as potential tributes. Then I put them in the Brant Steele Hunger Games Simulator, which randomly tosses the tributes through events similar to those from the book, and share the results.
I occasionally alter events to suit themed rounds. I also post additional writing prompts before the Games. Writers are encouraged to write about their characters’ experience and even collaborate with other writers, though this is not mandatory. All writing will be reblogged to this blog.
Characters’ canonical age, powers, strengths, abilities, disabilities, and weaknesses will not be taken into account by the simulator. Every outcome is random.
What’s the timeframe?
The rounds happen at random several times per year, sometimes centered around holidays. It lasts a different amount of time each round, but it’s not usually more than a month.
What does a writer have to do to participate?
The only thing you have to do is submit a character or two when submissions roll around--via ask, message, reblog, etc. Specific instructions are given in Announcement Posts. You don’t have to be following this blog or my main blog in order to participate; you’ll be tagged in all relevant posts.
If you want to be notified of future rounds, even if you’re not participating in the current one, let me know, and I’ll keep note of it on my master doc.
What do the tags mean?
Inquiry Post: a post I put out to gauge whether or not enough people are able and willing to play a round at the time.
Announcement Post: a post signalling that a round is beginning, putting out a tentative schedule, and calling for character submissions.
Introductory Post: a post I sometimes make that introduces the tributes.
