This was one of the coolest opportunities Iāve had in a long time. My day job gave me an opportunity to interview Tyler Perry for the new Boo 2! A Madea Halloween film.
Something you guys should know: The finished product you guys hear for each Whimsicast episode involves an hour and a half recording session where either me or the person Iām interviewing may have a number of mistakes and/or do overs. Itās a fairly low stress environment. We donāt rush. We talk until I feel like I have what I need. After that, theres a tremendous amount of editing that goes into making the finished product you all hear.
Going on my 5th episode of the podcast, Iād started to feel pretty comfortable with the process. But none of that could fully prepare me for this interview with Tyler.
As I waited outside the door for a 4 minute⦠yes⦠only 4 minute interview with absolutely no room for error, I could feel my heart beating in my throat; a strange sensation that I donāt specifically recall ever feeling before. And walking into the room, seeing Tyler freaking Perry in real life⦠it was a pretty intimidating experience, as well.
Turns out, heās a super humble dude. And even though I was completely jaded and uncomfortable during ¾ of my time with him, I left there with a great sense of pride for stepping out of my comfort zone to do something like this.
So, I just wanted to share this with you guys. All my friends who contribute to Whimsicast, follow this podcast, and share the episodes with your friends have been so encouraging these past few months. I just wanted to share this small, personal victory of overcoming fears, trusting in the things Iāve been learning over the years with this sort of thing, and walking away feeling like it was successful.
