Despite the break in routine, my favorite days are, selfishly, the ones we decide to let slip away while weāre together in bed. On these occasions, with the warmth of the sun on our faces and music in our ears, the bed is our sanctuary; the floor, the bathroom, the kitchen, the outside world are all reminders of a reality we donāt want to admit exists. So we stay in bed, our white-sheet island, as long as we can, as if our departure from it would mean weād lose the magical feeling forever

Meanwhile, emoji characters are copyrighted, and software can be patented. The machinic capacity to measure emotions via the face or tone of voice is in the possession of businesses, and currently being rapidly capitalized by private-equity investment. Industrial capitalism privatized the means of production. Digital capitalism seeks to privatize the means of communication.

When women used to be depressed or were not ātaking care of their menā properly their husbands could send them to the psych ward for attitude adjustments. This was part of conditioning them to always wear a smile. They believed that if a woman saw herself smiling that it would become natural practice and that she would be ācuredā. This often went along with shock therapies.
This gives a whole new level of creepiness to when random men tell you to smile.
People who talk about the 50s like they were this golden Era frighten me
