Mac-K-Cee - Temptation
Whiskey Pickle Records welcome German producer Mac-K-Cee to the fold with his super-groovy debut for the label. “Temptation“ and ”Step Outside” are a pair of classics-inspired deep house cuts that feature bouncy grooves, lovely stabs, and euphoric vocal samples. The single features two remixes of “Temptation”, with the first coming from label mainstay Walter Jones (DFA / Permanent Vacation) who drops the tempo considerably and adds his signature swing and acidic flourishes. Cancun’s The Funk District follows suit with an equally low slung dub version that channels the sun drenched vibes this fresh producer is becoming known for.

Playless - You Got Me So
Barcelona-based producer Playless makes his second appearance on Whiskey Pickle with two smoking tracks: “You Got Me So” and “Free”. Those tapped for remixes include the debut of Whiskey Pickle’s in-house mastering engineer, Ryan Parker, donning his Laws Of Nature moniker, as well as Austin duo Glass Slipper.
Bittersweet melodies, pitched-out vocal samples and deep, M1 bass lines are all featured in the original mix of “You Got Me So”. Its groovy, swung beats and dubby flourishes work nicely on a bed of garage-inspired production. Next up, Laws Of Nature take the controls for a modern, synth-drenched update that channels Disclosure at their funkiest. Glass Slipper fit just right with their stripped-back version that features re-sampled vocals – courtesy of in-house vocalist Lisa Cork-Twiss – and layers of organ riffs. Wrapping things up on the B-side is “Free”, a jangling house number with classic-sounding piano chords and a rough and ready bottom end.

Hawke - Cantamon
Gavin Hardkiss returns to the Whiskey Pickle fold and dons his fabled solo guise – Hawke – for a double header treat of balearic house workouts, with remixes from Steve Cobby (Fila Brazillia) and Walter Jones (DFA, Permanent Vacation). “Cantamon” is an extended jam that incorporates chirpy percussion, lush strings, and a live bass groove … top that off with some dubby female vocals and you have a serious winner. Steve Cobby steps up to lay down a whopping ten minute, acid-tribal groove of heaviness with his version of the track, and its something that certainly should not be taken lightly. Flip it over and we have “Baltimore Boston Express”, a hypnotic groover that bears the obvious hallmarks and quirks of a Hardkiss brother. Its choppy vocal samples and vintage arpeggios create a deep groove that is ominous and relentless. Wrapping things up another luminary returns to Whiskey Pickle: Walter Jones. His I-95 Remix features a thundering bottom end and boat-loads of swagger.

The Funk District - Robot Soul
Just in time for pool party season comes the latest endeavor from Cancun-based producer The Funk District. Riding a cool, summery breeze straight out of the Yucatan is “Robot Soul”, a super-groovy affair that features remixes from Richard Seaborne (Midnight Riot!) and Hotbox plus a B-side offering in the form of “Right To Humanity”. With previous releases by The Funk District on trusted imprints like Editorial Records, Paper Disco, and Deep Sense, Whiskey Pickle are proud to welcome this budding talent to the fold. Kicking things off, The Funk District gets things nice and warm with his original take on “Robot Soul”, relying on smooth organ pads, delayed guitar riffs, and a silky bass line. Richard Seaborne’s remix amps up the tempo and adds some funky flute riffs and a mean Moog bass while Hotbox’s dub remix is stripped down and hypnotic. Closing up the shop is the equally funky “Right To Humanity”, a perfect pairing to the lead cut with its fluid guitar riffs, vocoder vox, and cheeky vinyl cracklings.

The New Black - The Trouble With Monarchy
Texas-based cosmic-funksters The New Black return to Whiskey Pickle with their latest offering entitled The Trouble With Monarchy. This slick production duo -- comprised of Nathan Stewart and William Bowers -- have gone on to release with Midnight Riot, Something Different, and Headset after making their initial debut on Whiskey Pickle. Two cuts and a pair of remixes comprise their new groove-laden release, opening with the filtered, low-slung swing of “A Game Of Tones”. Chirpy sample stabs and ominous synth swells usher in a fat bass line and airy pads as things crescendo into a tsunami of enveloped Moog riffs.
Icelandic disco-maestro B.G. Baarregaard (Whiskey Disco, DiscoDat) steps up first to spin the groove of “A Game Of Tones” into an uptempo, cosmic burner. His shimmering synth work adds a carefree vibe to the original's menacing flair. UK duo Hearts Of Darkness, comprised of industry heavyweights Phil Towers and Al Bradley (3am Recordings), construct a dubby take on “A Game Of Tones”. They employ loads of echoes and funky synth riffs with their aim set steadily at club dance floors. Whiskey Pickle Records welcomes the fresh air of 2015 with its first release of the year, courtesy of Austin, Texas, based producer and visual artist Matteo. A stalwart in the local DJ community, Matteo has been featured on releases from the acclaimed Bush Records and has shared the decks with the likes of Bit Funk, Palmbomen, and Walter Jones, in addition to operating his own events and parties.
Whiskey Pickle is proud to present Matteo’s first artist EP in the form of Lust, which features the masterful vocal talents of J. Burnside plus a sleazy remix from label founder Adam Warped under his kidney-failure-inducing pseudonym Johnny Blackouts. The title track is a slinky, deep number that creates a hypnotic tapestry of chords and arpeggios for J. Burnside’s delicate vocals to flitter upon, while the Johnny Blackouts remix strips the melancholy away to reveal a grimy, acid-fueled workout with a rock-steady beat and dubby low end.
On the B-side action, “Aluminum Blvd” comes crashing in with a rolling bass line, waves of pads, and a chirpy 8-bit synth line that brings the entire affair into prime steppers territory… one for the heads! Wrapping things up nicely is “Poppy”, a low slung joint with loads of delayed synth work, dubby vocal snips, and some lovely movement making for a beautiful closer.

Whiskey Pickle, the little central Texas imprint, has outdone themselves with a staggeringly ambitious output this year. Their massive schedule included next level releases from Gavin and Robbie Hardkiss, Walter Jones, and newcomers such as Xander Milne, Thomas, and Glass Slipper alongside remix contributions from heavy hitters like James Curd, Sleazy McQueen, Dead Rose Music Company, and Jake Childs.
As 2014 comes to a close, Whiskey Pickle wraps up its biggest year to date with a blinding release from Barcelona based producer Playless. The Spanish native -- born Alex Ferrer -- is no novice to the global scene and has an impressive resume under his previous alias Sidechains. Through releases on Ministry of Sound, Hed Kandi, Toolroom, Moda, and Sweat It Out, plus a residency at Barcelona’s most beloved venue, Razzmatazz, the young maestro has earned his stripes in an authentic and organic way: with hard work, perseverance, and talent.
Ferrer’s second artist release as Playless comes in the form of "How Much?" and "Juno". Both tracks brilliantly showcase his production style which blends forward thinking, modern techniques with the fun, carefree spirit of dance music’s humble beginnings. "How Much?" kicks things off with shuffling hats, shimmering piano riffs, MIDI saxophones, and bass drops … the good time vibes are palpable on this one. The B-side, "Juno", pays homage to the sweaty warehouse days of yore with a barrage of 909 percussion, cavernous reverb, and a bass line as 'sliky' as Steve Hurley.
Londoner-turned-Parisian and Vulture Music label admin Xander Milne makes his second appearance on Whiskey Pickle remixing "How Much?". He twists the wistful leanings of the original into a pumping, party-jam anthem. Crackling percussion and layers of hype-man vocals bring the energy to a boiling point at the massive, filtered piano breakdown. "Juno" gets a deep and heavy re-rub from Whiskey Pickle stalwart Abstrakt Audio on his 'Warehouse' Remix which transports the listener to a darkened dance floor somewhere on the south side of Chicago.

Comprised of producer BradElectro and former Real McCoy vocalist Lisa Cork-Twiss, the pair create an infectious, bubbly sound that oozes sophistication and positive vibes.

“Caught Up” is a welcome addition to the package and showcases the exceptional talents of the duo. Skittering percussion and a choppy bass line swing confidently while Lisa’s soulful voice laments over tumultuous relationships. London’s own Black Magic Disco injects his signature garage-infused sound into his remix with a torrent of chord stabs. Copenhagen, Denmark isn’t the first nation that comes to mind when contemplating summer, so it was of some shock to Whiskey Pickle when they stumbled upon the demo for “Sexed Up” from Thomas Erichsen, a Dane who simply goes by his no-frills first name, Thomas. Having already created steady waves with his disco outfit DATO and its eponymous record label, Erichsen’s debut solo outing continues the surge while epitomizing summertime. Breezy chords, silky arpeggios, and bittersweet strings make “Sexed Up” the soundtrack to an Ibizan sunset. Tapped for remixes are San Francisco based duo Brother In Arms (J Boogie and Deejay Theory) plus Whiskey Pickle administrators RiCHARD.GEAR and Johnny Blackouts. Brother in Arms step up first, turning the tempo down with their Bay Area version. Strong R&B flavors permeate as the pair’s exquisite production chops shine beautifully in this modern take on classic Balearic. RiCHARD.GEAR comes through next with a stripped down house remix that channels vintage NYC flair whilst shuffling along with a confident bounce. Not to be outdone, Johnny Blackouts slides in just under the gun with his oozing, quicksand-paced, bass-laden remix. Utilizing a myriad of found samples and field recordings, the soothing sounds of children at play seeps in on top of a laid back 808 groove.

The concept behind The Remixes Vol. 1 is simple: take some tunes that mostly did not have remixes on the official release and enlist some high profile talent to put their special stamp on them -- and that's exactly what's happening here. Bundled with the premiere of Whiskey Pickle's brand new logo redesigned by Austin artist Mez-One (of The Royal Mark Makers and TITS Crew), this pack has the label family brimming with excitement. Up first, Sixth Avenue Express takes on the mighty "Nu Funk" by Abstrakt Audio. He twists the hypnotic swirl of the original into a slick lounge affair that features a gorgeous, roof-raising breakdown. Making his second appearance on WP, Dallas based producer Redsean utterly destroys "Does She Want You Now" by Zack Highwire in the best possible way, churning out some mean dance floor revenge. Cosmic funksters The New Black sought the expertise of The Dead Rose Music Company to beef up their "Stone Cold Groove" with some shuffling percussion and a Moog bass line that would make Bernie Worrell proud. On the flip-side, label founder Adam Warped dons his Johnny Blackouts guise and bucks all convention by taking "I'm A Freak" into Nordic-house territory. Jason Blakemore, formerly known as DJ Trance, injects Zack Highwire's "Mind, Hearts, Lies" with a classic analogue kick that just won't quit. Titled the Lurky Dub, it's just that: deep, brooding, and seriously dubbed out, sure to leave listeners stuck in the groove and eager to move. Lastly, Austin, TX, mainstay Keine Moniker puts "Traps" by P-Rez in a blender filled with heavy Rhodes chords and a rolling bass, pouring out smooth deepness on his Jazzme Edit. He's had a busy year with heavily lauded releases on Cream Couture, Bush Records, Dead Funk Music, and StayFly Records. His remix shows why, taking the original to a whole new time and place.

Honey Claws is a new international electronic punk-hop duo formed by American house DJ / producer Thomas Sahs and European-based indie rocker and emcee Jon Von Letscher aka Jov. The Money Jaws Remix EP says it all in the title … once the Whiskey Pickle boys caught a whiff of the original Money Jaws album with its hyper-stylized electro-swagger, it was imperative that remixes be created. Selecting two of the finest cuts from the primary release, “Me A Nude" and "Sleepover,” the Pickle posse went to work tapping a cast of talented characters to provide the needed dance floor treatments. Florida-based outfit Space Coast is the collaborative effort of analogue wizard Sleazy McQueen and multi-instrumentalist Jorge Collazo. Together, they weave a cosmic tapestry befitting of their nom de plume; the duo launch “Me A Nude” into deep space with an infectious swing. Then Sleazy McQueen takes a solo space-walk on his Dub Remix while fellow moon-cruiser Ursula 1000 engages the hyper-drive core with his usual brand of boogie infusions. The mysterious Redsean from Dallas, Texas blesses the vibes of “Sleepover” on his first official remix under the moniker. His sultry and sublime retouch is pure 5 AM gold, ladies and gents. Austin-based funkster Off Da Clock is next to lay his hands on “Sleepover” and - be forewarned - it is NSFW! His silky Sex In Da Pool version is a shuffling foot stomper with glossy pads and bubbling leads that’ll have you making new friends (with benefits) on the dance floor. Whiskey Pickle stalwart Zack Highwire is back from his voyage around the sun, bringing the funky solar jams with his Space Garage version. The package closes out with a previously unreleased Can’t Stop The Music Edit of “Sleepover” … something to give any extraterrestrial boppers an authentic taste of pure Honey Claws.
