by Kolby Solinsky, White Cover Magazine They're talking about the silent majority. It's this idea that Donald Trump won because most Americans were hidden from plain sight, that there was this rotating, intensifying tide somewhere way down beneath where we were floating, this multiplying group of assholes and angry people lining up to spar and wash the jerseys for…
by Kolby Solinsky, White Cover Magazine Blame Facebook if you want, if you're afraid to take responsibility. Blame the Internet if you want, because it's easier than blaming humans. Because you won't hear complaints or comebacks from websites or words or ideologies or companies. Because nobody likes to admit that the cracks of journalism aren't just…
Stop calling fake news ‘fake news’. It’s not fake news. If you call it fake news, you’re giving it too much credit – you’re implying that it’s “news” of any kind, because calling something fake doesn’t do enough to disassociate it from the truth. ‘Fake’ is used, often, even as a sales pitch... soy bacon is ‘fake bacon’, for example, and classy fake stuff is just called ‘faux’. Fake news isn’t ‘fake news’ – it’s spam.

You Should Travel Before 30. And After 30, Too.
You Should Travel Before 30. And After 30, Too.
Great piece on Thrillist right now – 15 countries you should visit before you turn 30. I mean, it’s not GREAT great. It’s just a list of photos, a 90-second stroke-fest of wanderlusting and panting, meant to get your mind off work and more onto the screensaver on your work computer. But it taps into a timeless travel idea – that there are just some things you need to do, some things you need to…

The Familiar Fate Facing Romania
The Familiar Fate Facing Romania
‘So, so you think you can tell… heaven from hell?’ – Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here I suppose the public relations issue facing Romania is the same of many countries like it. Countries that are currently like it, countries that once were like it. You’re sandwiched into a modern, first-world continent, and the tourist you hope to depend on are unsure whether you’re poor or not, dangerous or not,…

Stockholm is Just So Stylish
Stockholm is Just So Stylish
“I think that’s very classy. But still, like, not too up-dressed.” You know Sweden. You’ve never been to Sweden, but you know Sweden. Because the stereotypes are, while stereotypical and probably bullshit, complimentary. When you think blue eyes and blonde hair and overflowing amounts of style and fashion, I can’t imagine anyone being laid under those cliches is going to protest. Also read: Now…

The Most Romantic Cities on Earth
The Most Romantic Cities on Earth
The proclaimed ‘Most Romantic City’ in the World may surprise you. Actually, no. It won’t. (Hint: It’s in France.) The folks at WeLoveDates.com have compiled a cute, interactive map of the world’s Most Romantic Cities – from Canada down south, across the Atlantic and all the way around the world. No. 1 on this list shouldn’t surprise you, nor should Canada’s lone entry. (Although, we’d argue they…

Now Presenting: Scandinavia, Europe's North Star
Now Presenting: Scandinavia, Europe’s North Star
Frozen? Maybe, sometimes. But who doesn’t love Frozen? Scandinavia has long been one of Europe’s most lovely, charming regions – a winter wonderland that sparkles in summer, equally postcard-worthy under the sun or the snow. (more…)

Portugal is Getting Pretty Popular
Portugal is Getting Pretty Popular
Portugal is getting pretty darn popular. The beautiful, sun-drenched Iberian country has been popping up on several ‘Best in Travel’ lists for years now – it’s cheaper than most of its European carbon copies, like Italy or France, and it’s less clogged. And now, it’s challenging them. Portugal is “still waking up to its own worldly importance, and as a result, still vivid and sparklingly fresh,”…

Before Sunset: ‘Let Me Sing You a Waltz’ They wander around the city for 90 minutes or so, trying not to act. They have coffee, they flirt awkwardly and less awkwardly and then obviously. They sit on benches. They go back to her apartment. And she plays this song.
'For All We Know, Paris is the Hottest Spot in the Universe'
‘For All We Know, Paris is the Hottest Spot in the Universe’
Midnight in Paris is a two-hour cliche. It’s predictable, it’s mostly unoriginal in its message, and it recycles pretty much every Pinterest post about Paris an assembles them all to come from Owen Wilson’s noble, overflowing, golden-age obsessed character. But like Woody Allen’s best work, and Midnight in Paris is certainly one of…

This is London. 24/7
This is London. 24/7
The point of playing Would You Rather? is that neither choice is really, definitely better than the other. Or worse than the other. Which one you pick depends on the day, depends on your mood, and depends on your intelligence of your personal experiences – and personal experiences certainly have a way of cementing your biases, fair or not. So, what do you like more – London at day or London at…

Paris is the Worst, and Hate-Fucking Your Favourite Cities
Paris is the Worst, and Hate-Fucking Your Favourite Cities
The moral of the article is, Paris is the worst place on earth. “I’m aware that regularly stepping in dog crap and having to avoid fawning honeymooners is chic and sophisticated and all that other stuff that people write about Paris on novelty dish towels,” writes Yerim Sar, in a re-posted 2014 article for VICE. “But there are things I’d rather do than worry about not being cosmopolitan enough,…

Paris, Just Keep Living
Paris, Just Keep Living
Liberte. Egalite. Fraternite. What makes France France is pretty obvious: it’s the three words above, and the combination of them that stands for not just something, but everything. So what should they do? How should they cope with last Friday – how do they move on without forgetting? How do they progress while also preserving? Of course, this is also obvious. Just continue being France. Just…
