Some examples of orca entanglement and bycatch in South Korea. The stories behind these photos got a little lost in translation, but it appears that the first orca was found dead in a fishing net. The second was found entangled and freed by Korean Coast Guard. The description of the third photo says the orca was caught in a set net, but the translation makes it too difficult to determine if it lived or died.

It would be interesting to know if these orcas found in Korea are from the Japanese population or are their own unique population…

Isn’t it ironic? Cyanobacterias are known for causing significant environmental and health problems all over the world by causing toxic blooms. When inhaled it can lead to potentially fatal consequences. Yet they are also one of the reasons why life on earth exists in the first place by beeing the firsts organisms capable of producing oxygen as a by-product of photosynthesis. And if someone is wondering the green stuff on the image is what a typical cyanobacterial bloom looks like on a long exposure.
