"The movie business is very difficult but the music business is just impossible. So I’ll play in bands and record and play songs with other people, but for me it’s a form of expression that all I need is me."

"I’m sure you’ll do great. Must be in the blood, or something. But, uh, I have a question."
"Why is your world called ‘Remnant’? Did these Grimm things used to be worse?” That would certainly explain the technological deficiency. If the Dark Ages, as they were termed, actually had solid reasoning behind it— It hardly bore thinking about.
Leif shrugged. "Yeah, once upon a time. Before we figured out how to harness Dust." he indicated the collapsed weapon on his belt. "That's what most of my arrows use, Fire Dust. They're rigged to explode on contact. There's other kinds, though, like Wind and Energy...Dust is used for all kinds of things. Tory's made himself a pair of boots that use Dust to let him fly, sort of." He grinned. "Though last time he tested 'em he ended up stuck in a tree. I don't think Raisa is ever gonna let him live that down."
"But basically the story goes that we were made from dust, humans and Faunus alike. No one really knows where the Grimm came from or why they don't like basically anyone, but they're vicious as hell. We were nearly driven to extinction before we figured out how to fight back. They're also why most of the villages outside the kingdom walls don't really last very long...without help or protection, they can't stand on their own against Grimm attacks."
"Great." Steve’s brows drew together and he stared at the man for a moment, then moved a little closer. His eyes narrowed, confusion making him wary. After a few moments, he cleared his throat and crossed both arms over his chest. "I can handle myself," he said. Never mind that he’d probably been close to being trampled or eaten by… whatever that was. Generally, it was true. “What kingdom are you talking about?”
Tory raised an eyebrow. Sure, the guy looked capable enough, but he also looked unarmed and, since he clearly had never seen an Ursa before, that was enough for Tory to doubt his ability against the creatures. And then the question. What kingdom? "...You don't know?" He jerked a thumb over his shoulder at the city just visible through the trees. "You're right outside the kingdom of Vale. Lucky I came along when I did; I was making sure these took the adjustments I made all right." he held up a gauntleted hand in indication. "Where're you from, that you don't know about the kingdoms?"
