Tony Stark Aesthetic // for @laexploradoraaa {send me any marvel character}
mxttmurdock:
Yeah, he’s definitely ticklish. He’ll tuck that little factoid away for later.
“Foggy’s been dying to get a peek at your place. Honestly, I think he wants to snoop around and judge you, but don’t mind him. He’s a harsh critic.”
Maybe now’s not a good time to mention Foggy’s never liked any of his girlfriends.
“I’ll be there, and I’ll be looking forward to your ultra-classy gift-wrapped dick. Would you like mine in a box?”
“Hey, I’m used to snooping and judging. I’ve got this in the bag.”
As much as it’s delivered as a joke, that doesn’t stop the statement from being true. The difference this time is that he won’t mind the snooping and the judging, since he’s pretty sure Foggy Nelson is a good guy who wouldn’t unnecessarily hate him.
(Which is not to say that Tony hasn’t done plenty to make him, uh, necessarily hate him, but. Optimism. He’s trying it out.)
“As for your dick, I think we’ve established that I like it every which way it’s presented to me. A box would be a nice, new touch though. Maybe a red one,” he adds, laughter filling his voice, warming it. “With gold ribbons. It’s a branding thing, you know, marking my territory.”
‘don’t fuck it up stark’
excuse me, have you met us
The other Tony’s brow knits together like he’s actively trying to will away certain thoughts, certain memories. Tony’s gone through a lot in his life, but somehow that betrayal managed to stay with him. To linger…
“Mine managed to give himself a healing factor. I think he fancied himself a kind of Terminator. Rhodey and I took care of him, but it could have been worse. All I’m saying is maybe clue Murdock into the situation. How is Red, by the way?”
Please. You can’t expect to successfully tell yourself what to do. That’s always been our weakness.
There are some things you don’t get over, no matter how deep you bury them.
Obie’s one of those things. He’s making peace with that, sort of, in the way that he’s... just resigning himself to it, really.
What else is he going to do? There’s always something more pressing to take care of. Case in point: his old nightmare’s new nightmare of son.
“Faaaaantastic,” he breathes, drawing the word out as he closes his eyes and fires off a text to Matt. “Just what I needed. Question: have you figured out why it’s always us? Because it’s honestly always us.”
Karma, many people would say. They’d probably be right.
“Matt, at least, is good.” His mouth ticks up at the corner, and his voice warms without him noticing. “Invited him and Foggy to my Christmas bash. You and Steve doing the disgusting co-hosting thing?”
“I’ve learned from the best Stark, you’re a shockingly good teacher.”
somehow it’s easier to fall into a give and take that’s dangerously close to fighting. it works better that way. that and in the end he still isn’t sure how to act around tony given how intertwined the stark have been in his life. steve is more than certain it’d be easier if they just hated each other, but —
“He was a good man, one of my only friends, I won’t fault him for being a terrible father.” the bags of food are dropped unceremoniously atop the nearest mess. it’s as close to lashing out as he gets these days. “You turned out alright, Stark.” to his credit, he’s kinder when it comes to the coffee, clearing away a spot to set it down before grabbing a stool as if he’d been invited in. rhodey’s warnings ring distantly in his head but it’s brushed aside as he leans forward to examine the careful work going on. it just looks like a mess of wires if he’s honest.
“You still need to eat some time this week.” you look like death warmed over.
“Unless you want me to come back and get Natasha to convince you.”
you bet your ass he’s smiling into his coffee.
He’s so tired of circling the Howard Stark Fan Club every time he has a conversation about his father. Because the thing is, the thing is: Tony doesn’t blame him for being a terrible father, either. It’d be easier if he did, and a hell of a lot less important to him if he did, but he doesn’t.
Howard was a brilliant man, and he did so many things, created so many things that improved the world. It’s a monumental set of shoes to fill, it’s a legacy hanging over his head that sometimes feels like the Sword of Damocles, but he’d be damned if he’d have it any other way. Sure, it’d be nice to have more god memories than bad when it comes to the personal shit, but Steve’s right: he turned out alright. More than that, if Howard had been a better father, a better husband, a better part of their family, he has no doubt that the world would have suffered for it.
Tony loves his father, and he always has. It’s hard not to, and God knows he’s tried, but that’s the simple, inalienable truth. He loves and respects him, and more than that, he understands why Howard was the way that he was.
Doesn’t mean he wants to have a heart-to-heart with Spangly Britches about it, or that he feels obligated to to give him a hall pass to comment on shit that’s, frankly, none of his business.
Tony finally looks up, lower lip caught between his teeth, and regards Steve moodily.
“Are you finished? Because. Busy here.” He gestures to the work laid out in front of him, casual insolence in his expression and tone, designed to get under Steve’s skin. “As fun as this conversation is, I was over it, like, five minutes ago.”
Before it even started. Before Steve ever rose back up from the grave and imposed himself on Tony, on his life, on his career.
“And unless you can prove you’re more useful than my bots, which is not a -- it’s not a tall bar to leap, if we’re talking Dum-E here, but I get the feeling you’d still trip -- your presence is so not necessary. Especially if you’re going to nag. I have enough naggers in my life, thank you very much.”
Obie’s kid? Yeah. Real nutjub. Thinks he’s smarter than me. As if.
[ That doesn’t make him not a threat. ]
You got backup on this?
“I still can’t believe anyone slept with Obie with the intent to procreate,” Tony mutters, spinning in his chair to reach for his (sixth) mug of now-cold coffee.
It’s funny how Obie’s been dead years, and yet Tony can still feel the weight of his hand on his shoulder, the curl of his big, thick fingers bearing down when he’d grip just a little too tight, shake just a little too hard. It’s funny how his skin still feels too tight, too hot, whenever Matt brushes his hand over the arc -- funny how he still keeps it, even though Extremis would let him live without it, if he wanted to. Funny in the way that means he needs so, so much therapy, anyway.
He scrubs a hand over his face, exhales, and drains the mug. His sunglasses get lost somewhere in his hair, and fuck if he cares.
“Back-up?” He pulls a face, and not just because he’s only 47% sure that this is today’s coffee after all. “I’m laboring under the impression he’s just an asshole playing the Tony Stark killed my daddy too card; are you telling me he’s an actual threat? Because it’s Christmas. I have plans.”
He holds his mug out toward his other self, shaking it.
“No peanut gallery commentary on that, by the way.”
★★★ – anationaltreasure
“Not to sound rude, but I think I remember your dad saying something about burning candles on both ends.”
he really means you look like SHIT, but, well – he’s trying to be a little diplomatic considering it’s first thing in the morning. rhodey had called, a warning about stark’s poor attitude before a pot of coffee had been chugged down but really steve stopped giving any thought to the warnings about the third time coming down into the fresh hell of wiring and chrome.
at least this time he comes with an offering of chinese food and coffee.
(that’s what people did right?)
“Take a break Stark before I make you take one.”
“By all means, Captain: be rude. You’re shockingly good at it.”
He doesn’t bother looking up from the open heart surgery he’s currently performing on a repulsor, brows knit, foot tapping in time to the music pumping out of the speakers above them. If he were paying more than cursory attention to Rogers, he’d put a little more effort into the by-play; as it stands, he’s working against a deadline, and the good Captain is little more than a gnat buzzing around his head.
Which doesn’t mean he hasn’t heard every word he said -- Tony’s great at multitasking, great at filtering and disregarding the meat of a conversation, only to repeat it verbatim when it suits him -- but he’s choosing to ignore most of it.
He reaches for a soldering iron without looking up, and adds, almost as an afterthought, “Dad also mentioned something about whiskey putting hair on a six year-old’s chest, so he’s maybe not who you want to be quoting here, if you’re going for solid life choices. You can leave the coffee, take the food, don’t let me keep you.”
“I forgot just how awful hungover me is.”
If he needed a reminder why he shouldn’t drink, this is it.
“Who’s got your panties in a wad?”
“At the moment? You do.”
He points at the screen, taking small, petty satisfaction in the fact that his high definition monitor is showing him his alternate universe counterpart’s individual, high-res grey hairs.
“Also, some asshole named Zeke Stane. Maybe you’ve heard of him.”
Just MCU and 616 chilling together.
Turn down your volume, you big baby.
“Why are you such a douchebag?”
There’s no heat to the question, not really, but the look he aims over his sunglasses is not a friendly one.
“Did you forget to take your Metamucil again?”
Don’t start.
( he’s not above throwing the ice pack at you. )
That is definitely gonna bruise.
Shh. Indoor voice.
There is no such thing as “I have no choice.” Life is full of choices and it’s always up to you to decide.

mxttmurdock:
Matt slides his hand underneath Tony’s pant leg. Let’s find out if he’s ticklish…
“Christmas? Oh, probably spend most of the night on patrol.” He squeezes Tony’s ankle. “I’m kidding. I’m spending it with you. obviously.”
Honestly, Tony. You think he’s going to peace out on you on Christmas? He loves Foggy’s family, but he’ll carve out some time over New Year’s to see them. And he swears he’ll only go Daredeviling if it’s an absolute emergency.
“Hey, you’ve got cold fingers,” he whines, lifting his legs and swinging them away in a wide arc, still crossed at the ankle. “Foul play.”
He is not ticklish (and even if he is, he won’t admit it, so there), but that doesn’t mean Mr. Frost has a license to kill over there.
Christmas isn’t -- his thing. This season, this month, they’re not -- he doesn’t enjoy them. But since he got together with Matt, they’re a little easier to bear. (Matt, at least, doesn’t seem to mind his over-the-top presents, seems to understand that if he’s overcompensating, it’s not because he doesn’t care, it’s just... whatever, he gets it.)
His smile softens a little, and he drops his feet to the floor, sitting up a little straighter.
“Family and friends party is Christmas Eve, bring Nelson. Then you can bunk over and unwrap your present first thing in the morning.”
He waits a beat.
“Is it classless to put a bow on my dick?”
