The Honeymoon

So finally, a little late, this is my piece for the Pick Your Poison Fic Challenge that the lovely @oh-honey-styles, @andwhenshesays and @for-fucks-sake-h organised. For those of you who read my writing on Wattpad it’s basically a peek at Harry and Jessi’s honeymoon. Thank you to everyone who reads this. I hope you enjoy! x

Breathe me in, breathe me out, they don’t think that they could ever go without.

Rated M for Mature. 4.5K words.

I stumble out from inside our private honeymoon villa and the bright sunlight stings my eyes. I flip down the sunglasses I’m using as a makeshift hairband - a habit I’ve picked up from my husband - so they shield my gaze. Our two weeks here are quickly coming to an end and if it wasn’t for our daughter waiting back home, I don’t think you could drag me away from here. We’ve barely left the confines of the villa but every detail has been perfect, from lazy breakfasts in bed, to curling up with Harry while he reads me poetry, some from books and some that he’s written himself, those are my favourites.

“Ah, there he is,” I whisper. Zeroing in on my target lounging on a giant heart-shaped pool float. He looks so still and peaceful that I wonder if he’s asleep but he flips the page in his book softly and my insides do a little somersault, I’d missed him during my nap - a consequence of the teeny tiny little one growing inside me. My feet tiptoe down the steps as I make my way closer.

Box of Secrets Chapter 26: Bob and Weave

“They’re adults, Cassie,” I whisper. “They’ll call if they need us for something.”

“I suppose.” As her shoulders relax, I contemplate what we should do with our time. 

Being mighty presumptuous there, Harry. Maybe she doesn’t even want to spend the evening in my company. But when she twists to face me, her eyes capture mine. 

“Can we go to your place, Harry?”

Shit. Really? Stay cool, rockstar. Do not allow your dick to make your decisions. But with her eyes on mine, I can barely swallow as my mouth has gone dry. Fuck yes. 

“Sure. We can watch a movie and order some carryout.” I calmly push the words out despite the pounding in my ears. 

“No. We can cook together and then fuck until we can’t see straight.” 

Oh. I blink twice. I love how forward she is. 

“Yeah,” The corners of my mouth nearly reach my ears. “That’s another option.”

18: Cover-Up Two days after pounding on Cassie’s door, I find myself bereft. She’s clearly kicked me to the curb after she got what she needed. Packing an overnight bag, I drive north to my mum’s house. As I climb from the car, Mum comes outside, shading her eyes from the winter sun. “Did I know you were visiting?” she asks after wrapping me in one of her patented hugs and kissing my cheek. Her face is devoid of makeup which is my favourite way to see her, and she’s wearing jeans and an oversized jumper. “You look relaxed,” I comment, and she grins. “Was planning a quiet day at home. Maybe an art project.” “Oh. Sorry.” “Hush, my son. A mama is always happy to see her baby.” She brushes the bangs from my eyes and peers closely. “Especially when something is bothering him.” “I’ve no clue what you’re talking about. Hurry up! Let’s get inside before your toes freeze.” Since she’s only wearing socks, my comment makes sense. But also I’m not ready to share anything with her just yet. I will. Of course I will. It’s the reason I’m here after all. She is such a wise woman and always has amazing advice. Available NOW on Wattpad

13: Technical Draw

She scoffs as she smoothes over the pain she’s just caused. “Despite the actions of the majority of my peer group, I don’t research everything about dried-up, overhyped, ex-boy band members.”

“Ouch,” I reel from her hands more than her words. “I happen to have a successful solo career, you know.”

“Really? Define successful.”

Mentally rolling my eyes because she won’t be able to see them while my head is buried in the face cradle, I respond politely, “Um, let’s just say my last album was in the top ten for several months.”

“Top ten of what?” 

“Never mind. Doesn’t matter. I sold out a world tour and traveled everywhere you can imagine with my band.”

“Really? Did you go to India?”

“No.”

“Oh.” Her disappointment is palpable. “How about South Africa?”

“No.” Now I’m pouting because she’s managed to pick two of the only places in which I didn’t perform. “But we went to Russia and Hungary.” 

“Big deal,” she mutters, and I wish I could see her face. Somehow I have the feeling she’s mocking me. “Anyone can sell out a world tour with only 100 seats per venue.”

My anger is riled at this comment, and my back rises on the table as I start to lift my body in protest. “I’ll have you know we sold out…umph.” She shoves me back onto the table with a well-placed elbow in my arse.

Chapter 11: Below the Belt

Mentally rolling my eyes, I decide that if the game of chicken is going to come to an end, I need to be the loser. 

“I see how it is,” I comment, as my button comes undone with a flick of my thumb and forefinger. “You’re expecting me to do all of the work. Typical misandry.” 

She scoffs. “Misandry? I don’t think so. You know how to remove your own clothing quite adequately, I’m sure. Besides, I helped with the cardigan and t-shirt.”

The banter is fun, and I’m pleased she knows the word that essentially means the opposite of misogyny. Not that it’s used often these days, but it’s a good word to have in your wheelhouse. She’s intelligent in addition to everything else. Of course, I knew about her brains during the pub trivia contest tonight. Could she be the perfect woman? 

If only she’d let me inside. Figuratively more than literally.

With great care and the slowest possible speed, I slide the zipper on my trousers down. When I push the material over my hips, I shake my body to let them fall to the floor, and she giggles. Standing in only my white briefs, socks, and trainers, I unleash the dimple as I step out of my trousers. 

“Ohhhhh...sexy!” she laughs as one trouser leg gets stuck on my shoe so that I have to shake it off.

Chapter 7: Second

"Will you be warm enough?" I asks, examining her clothing. "Never mind. You stay in the car. I'll be right back." Sprinting into the house, I gather a jacket for me plus a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie for her. Gloves and beanies finish the stack, and with my full hands I return to the car.

As she takes the clothing from me, I spy a flash of gratitude in her eyes. Assuming that's all the appreciation I'll get, I smile at her as I wait for her to pull on the outfit over her current clothes.

Standing after she's pulled on the sweatpants, she hoarsely whispers "Thanks," and I am confident I'm about to shatter into a million splinters of happiness. Adding the jacket over my clothing, I lead the way out of the gate and to the park entrance two blocks up. It's a little nippy out; wrapping the beanie around my ears, I pass the second one to Cassie along with an extra pair of gloves.

We're in the park walking along for a solid twenty minutes or more before she speaks.

"He named me Cassie after Cassius Clay -- you know, Muhammad Ali. Boxing is in his blood. Our blood, I suppose. My grandpa boxed as did his grandpa before him. It's been the family business for generations. So when Jack had a daughter, I'm sure he must have been disappointed. Not that he ever made me feel that way even once."

Now that she's talking, I don't want to interrupt. Plopping my hands in my pockets, I make a small sound that could mean anything from "yeah" to "go on".

The Studio

I pull up outside Shangri La studio and turn off the car engine. Harry was supposed to meet me an hour ago for dinner. I knew it was a bad idea to make plans while he was trying to put the finishing touches to his latest album but he had insisted we needed to celebrate. I smile as I glance down at the newest piece of jewellery as it sparkles in the moonlight. Harry had chosen well but I shouldn’t be surprised, he seemed to know me inside and out.
