People get so nervous to be incorrect about things that they consider to be well known and it makes for some fun conversation at work.
Customer: I've been struggling all day to landscape and garden snd I can't find the right answer and I really need some help and I don't know what I'm doing, can you help me?
Me: Yeah no problem! What are you working on?
Customer: Well I just planted some trees but I can figure out what that STUFF is, yknow?
Me: What stuff?
Customer: That wood chippy, mulchy stuff that people put around the base of a tree!
Me: As far as I'm aware, it's just mulch. Like the same mulch that you put in a garden bed.
Customer: *stares at me and processes*
Customer: oh my god all day I thought I was dumb but it's just the obvious answer
Some plants from my garden walk today
I can't even convey how much happier I am working in the garden department instead of customer service.
I only watered plants. For 8 and 1/2 hours. For 2 days in a row. It was so insanely peaceful.
So I adopted a new garden at the city park where I volunteer and its so so pretty but the absolute star of the show is this amaryllis that was originally planted in this garden in about 1910. If properly cared for, amaryllis will live for decades! I am honored to have this in my little slice of heaven garden.
There's lots of greens so I added some dianthus, caladium, plumbago, winecup, and salvia for some color!
At work someone asked me which soil is best for flowers. And I brought them to the flower specific soil. But then they got the top soil.
And then they asked for perennial flowers that can be in full sun. And I showed them a bunch, and then they got a shade annual.
Why do they bother asking me questions and having me walk with them to help them find the right things.
I thought I had heard all of the dumb questions. I thought that no one could shock me with their sheer dumbness. And then at work a guy walks up to me while I'm watering the plants and says:
"I don't know if this is something that you would know, but does the potting soil have dirt in it?"
I explained that yes it does have dirt, in fact it is almost completely dirt. And he asked me if I'm sure. He asked " is it just mixed in there? I would like it to be mostly dirt."
I don't understand
My plant goals for summer 22:
🌱 Be more active on here, lol. I want to be able to look back on my plant journey and document how my babies grow. I have been slacking off a bit bcs of other things (work+school+mental health).
🌱 Take a whooole lot of cuttings, firstly from all my different pothos plants. They need pruning and I’m so excited about seeing small cuttings grow into bigger plants.
🌱 Do a real cute setup on my balcony (with outdoor plants). I wanna spend so much time there during summer.
BONUS:
🌱 Change this blogs appearance bcs rn I’m so tired of it lmao
Do you have any goals or plant related plans? I’m so curious, let’s inspire each other 💘
I really wanted to focus on seed starting and so far so good! Now I just need to keep up with it all!
But my other goals are
🌻 have more flowering plants
🌻 keep my balcony clean
🌻 spend more time on my hopefully flowery and clean balcony for my mental health
🌻 learn about new plants
An adorable little bird hanging out on my patio this morning
To all the new gardeners out there, your plants are going to lean towards the light. No matter how much light you give them, if it's at an angle, they are going to lean. These cucumbers are on a West facing balcony in Texas and get about 6 hours of light a day and they are still leaning and I have to spin them every 2 days

All my babies that I grew from seed! An heirloom tomato, lots and lots of Nasturtium, burpless cucumbers, lemon cucumbers, and some basil! My balcony garden is coming together
Pros of working in a garden center:
Plants
Sun
Being outside
No one's angry
I get to flex my plant knowledge
Cons of working in a garden center:
People give me an extremely long lost of criteria and want to know what plant fits that and then they don't like any if my suggestions
I love once a puppy establishes their own routines. Normally in the mornings my boyfriend and me don't wake up at the same time because of our work/school schedules. But our puppy does not like it. Once one of us let's him out of the crate he will wait at the bedroom door for the other one! So in the mornings we both get up just so one of us can say good morning to him and then we can go back to sleep. Otherwise he won't go outside or eat. It's a very important morning ritual in this house
My nasturtium seedlings are big enough to go outside! They're so pretty, I especially love the Alaska variety, the leaves are beautiful!
