i know i said i did not want to talk about the nolan odyssey but i do have one more nodyssey post in me. i actually think the idea of odysseus understanding his story as existing both in and out of a historic timeframe is a fun way to handle the liminality caused by the story being part of an extensive oral tradition. however having him say "our age of bronze is collapsing" is perhaps not the way i would have done that

There's an awful trend in reading that's this CinemaSins kind of rejection of abstract concepts and suspension of disbelief, that makes people say it's bad writing when authors use descriptions that aren't immediately one to one with physical reality.

Like it's bad when a "tattoo is undulating" (as opposed to... "drawn in a wave like pattern on the skin"?), or when hair is "wet wheat from a late Summer field" (as opposed to "sort of brownish light yellow that dries lighter, but is not actual wheat stalks growing on someone's head but kind of reminiscent of the color and texture"?), or when when ice cream tastes like midnight at the fair" (as opposed to "ice cream flavour bringing back memories of undefined ice cream flavours that are individually popular but always tied to a memory of late evening at the fair ground and probably smelling vaguely like popcorn and sugar"?).

Please. We have to get back to understanding abstract descriptions that evoke feelings and memories and mental images or things we haven't experienced yet. This hyper utilitarian way of reading and judging text is killing fiction. it's robbing you of experiencing things you haven't actually personally experienced.

I can already see him after going through whatever he and Kate Bishop just go through (Kate definitely makes a joke about smth like “damn and i thought Clint was a hardass”). at the end, he tells her to be nicer to that Jack Duquesne guy (who’s been texting Kate for most of the special to check in on her). and he says smth like how “he may not have married your mother, but he’s being a father anyway, and it’s clear he cares about you, kid”

Kamala Khan is such a sweet soul and while she’s from NJ, her dad is too and it was easy enough to put him in DDBA. i do however think we’ll need the Kamala from the Marvels rather than her show style bc it wouldn’t work at all with Frank. i can definitely see something like TP s2 where they end up in the same place and y’know it’s just a kid, he can’t help but help her when some random people start chasing and attacking her at the subway station. (which is perfect if she they really are heading with the mutant storyline and since he was there for the jean stuff, he can recognize some the pattern of these events) this leads to a strange partnership as Frank does whatever he can to help get her back to her family. ESPECIALLY if her family ends up taken and he helps her get them back. he also ends the special with a few words like how she should forget whatever he said earlier, “you shouldn’t change. there’s a lot bad shit out there, but you’re good, and the world needs more good.”

Joaquin Torres, also being a military guy, is able to bond with Frank in a different way. but i also want it to be just so so random, like they’re buds, like he doesn’t know what it is about Joaquin but the kid just gets him, he’s all right. so it’s totally out of nowhere when Joaquin says he’s bringing backup to a fight and then Frank shows to which Sam has to talk to him in private about how the fuck he knows Frank Castle aka The Punisher and how is he not dead yet?? anyway Frank helps them win, says he’ll see Joaquin later for cards and then leaves.

Cassie Lang lives in San Francisco, and even then i feel like there’s not a lot of room for her parenting considering she’s got a total of 4 parents, 2 grandparents, and like 3 weird uncles. i feel like it’d be hella funny if she’s an end credit scene where she’s on her phone and we see a post about Frank being seen working with one of the young heroes and she goes to text said hero and it’s so funny
