Hi, I do apologize if you've been asked about this before, I couldn't quite find an answer. I've been trying to make a Hannibal Slavegirl costume and wanted it to be fairly accurate to the show, debating between broadway and london, but i don't know what to make the skirt out of. I've seen some productions use strips of velvet and others use rope, but i cannot find anything like the rope used no matter what i search. Do you know what my best option would be as far as the skirt goes??
The ropes, or rather cords, used in the European costumes is a tricky bugger to replicate. They have a light core, with either red or green braided around it, and despite being fairly thick they are super light. That’s why they move well and doesn’t hurt the dancers (…too much…) when twirling and kneeling. They probably have a specific name, but I don’t even know what to start googling.
Input, anyone? ETA: @christinedieae suggested paracord, and a thick paracord looks like a brilliant suggestion :)
But yeah, the US and World Tour versions use slashed velvet, which kinda curls into tubes when cut. Probably even lighter to dance in. Could be a good alternative?
