I can’t help but think like. If I were a better writer, I could drag out the beginning “psychological horror” aspect for longer. I could pace it better, instead of… whatever it is I’ve got going on right now. And I’m stuck between “just write it the best I can right now, I can always rewrite it later to better match my vision/skills” and “if I don’t try to do it properly NOW then how am I even going to improve?”

Okay I have realized that because I haven’t fucking posted many chapters yet people aren’t inside my head they don’t know and understand the scale of emotions going on in Cursed Harvest and therefore don’t have enough context for these songs to resonate much but I must say.

My playlist has a specific order and part of that order is: Until it Doesn’t Hurt by Mother Mother, and directly after that is Animal I Have Become by Three Days Grace. Which I think is a fucking galaxy brained move on my part because it’s a (somewhat) quiet song immediately followed by a loud angry song. Everything is mellow, if terrible, until it just fucking explodes. The calm before the storm, if you will

Writing Exercise #7

(About time I got back to this)

Inspiration for this piece below the cut

Time: 10 mins | Word count: 282

The woman is dressed in a poor imitation of 60s fashion. Bright yellow plaid miniskirt, stark white satin or silk brassiere type thing with a jean vest over it, brightly colored necktie, large green earrings, yellow bandanna and sunglasses to top it all off.

She smiles wide – too wide – when I step into her eclectic store. Vinyls and album covers dot the walls, various vintage and retro memorabilia scatter the tabletops around the area.

"Hello, welcome in! Can I help you find anything?" she asks.

"Just looking."

"Well, let me know if there's anything I can help with!"

I nod, slowly wandering along the wall, taking in the variety of music genres and time periods she has pinned up.

"Quite the collection." I mention.

"Yes! My life's work, I thought it would fit perfectly as decoration."

I nod. "Quite a range, you listen to all of it?"

"I do, yes." she moves to a table to my left and begins fussing with a potted plant that sits there. It might be plastic, I can't tell.

"Quite the genre hopper."

She laughs, loud and a little exaggerated.

"Yes, I suppose I am."

She stares at me intently, and I can't figure out what her deal is. She nudges the potted plant to the side, then redirects her gaze towards the license plate it was obscuring.

The license plate that reads: HELP ME

I furrow my brow for a moment, and then the bell on the door jingles and she quickly pushes the pot back into place. Another man walks in, tall, but otherwise not out of place.

If possible, the woman becomes even stiffer than before. Her movements turn robotic, her words scripted.

Truly, Aftermath by Crown The Empire would make an INCREDIBLE addition to my Cursed Harvest Sebastian playlist if it weren’t for the fucking “I’m all that I have” line. Because HE’S NOT!!! And by the end he KNOWS THAT. One of the whole central points of this is (supposed to be) found family so that ONE (1) single line completely fucks over any chance that song had of making the cut for the playlist and that makes me SO MAD. Because otherwise it’s PERFECT

To answer your question, I unfortunately don’t know. I don’t have an update schedule and mostly write whenever the mood/inspiration strikes me. (I know that’s a bad habit but what can I say) Between being busy (2.5 jobs) and some stressful life events coming up that hasn’t happened for a little bit

I will say this ask has made me want to come back to it again though, I can’t make any promises but I’ll be listening to my playlist for it to help get me back in the mood
