Hey all, I'm still updating my blog. Since I was busy babysitting my adorable niece (whom I had an awesome time with, by the way), I didn't really do much. Anyway, I've kinda been having this on my mind lately, and I needed to see what your guys' opinion is on this. I'm sure if this happens to get any traction, I'm gonna receive hate, but I'll ask anyway...
What do you guys think about people converting ts4 player's content or any other sims/ea games content creator's work to other versions of the sims franchise, regardless of whether they state conversions are allowed or not? I looked into EA's TOS regarding player's who share content for their games, after seeing simblr folks calling out shameless creators (you know who/what I'm talking about🫢), and saw that according to part 5 of EA's TOS titled "Your User-Generated Content (UGC)", "...You also grant to all other users who can access and use your UGC on an EA Service the right to use, copy, modify, display, perform, create derivative works from, and otherwise communicate and distribute your UGC on or through the relevant EA Service without further notice, attribution or compensation to you". Therefore, sims/ea games content creator's terms of use are not legally binding, at least where I'm from (is that shady to point out).
Now, obviously, I do NOT condone people taking other's works, claiming them as their own, and putting them behind a paywall, however after reading about it and really thinking about it, I see no problem with people who give full credit to the original creators and linking to the original creator's page/socials whilst sharing their conversions free of charge. After all, was it not a big part of the sims community to share content amongst each other and through each of the sims games, or do I have it all wrong?
I guess what I am truly asking is if it is morally wrong to share conversions, ignoring the wishes of the original creators, despite it being legally acceptable?
Sorry to get all philosophical, especially since this is about some damn games, but I was curious after getting frustrated at the fact that so many, and I mean a majority of ts4 creators state "No Conversions Allowed". Seriously, I just want to share conversions of beautiful content to ts3 without worrying about getting public backlash and even more so, hate and guilt from my own psyche (curse my anxiety and depression). Once again, I apologize for this long ass essay and I appreciate those of you who decide to read this. I would love to hear your opinions, so long as you are tactful and kind with your response, whether you agree with my standing of it being okay for people to freely share or not.
