âThatâs a nice name,â she smiled, taking Rosetteâs hand, âand Iâm a Chemistry student.â
âSo a nerd.â There was a teasing tone, shaking the otherâs hand. âAnd thank you.â
âI could literally say the same to you considering youâre going into medicine,â she replied with a chuckle.
umbraevenatores:
âSweet heart, you are gorgeous. You would have still won. And you had quite the charm too.â
âYouâre sweet, incredibly wrong but sweet. What district do you have this year?â
â Come on, Iâm not going to get anything killed with you lot holding me back.  â
â Iâm fine. I just need to die for a minute. Â â
â It was supposed to confuse him but it just made him peppy. Its not supposed to mix with anything. You think heâs taking prescription medication? Â â
â And zombies donât eat brains anyway, unless instructed to by their zombie master. A lot of people get that wrong. Â â
â This tower was built by crazy people and I donât think itâs holding up very well. Â â
â But I want you to know I did save you. Not when it counted, of course, but ⊠after that. Every night after that.  â
â Itâs okay, I can be alone with you here. Â â
â OK, so youâre telling me Iâm broke? Â â
â Easy, we burn the house to the ground and collect the insurance. Plus, fire? Pretty. Â â
â Itâs not like itâs the end of the world⊠which is too bad, you know, âcause that, Iâm really good at. â
â Well, I know Iâm back in America now. Iâve been knocked unconscious. â
â I kiss all the time, not that Iâm a kiss slut. Just with the lips and the pressing together and stuff. Hey, expert here! Â â
â Youâre scared, ashamed of what you feel. Â â
â You canât tell the ones you love, you know they couldnât deal. Â â
â Uh, so, did anybodyâŠuhâŠlast night, you know, did anybody, umâŠburst into song?  â
â Everything is turning out so dark. Â â
â Bunnies arenât just cute like everybody supposes! Â â
â Do you think Iâm stupid? I know you used that spell on me. Â â
â But I-I just wanted to make things better. Better for us. Â â
â Weâll get our memory back, itâll all be right as rain. Â â
â Translate this for me, Spock. I donât speak loser. Â â
â Nobody could do that much dĂ©coupage without calling on the powers of  â
â Who told you that it isnât easy to love you? Â â
â Iâve been thinking about doing something in my room. I think the New Kids on the Block posters are starting to date me. Â â
â There is nothing good or clean in you. You are dead inside! You canât feel anything real! I could never be your girl! Â â
â We do not joke about eating people in this house! Â â
â Itâs dangerous, and so is all of us dying. Â â
â You want me to say I like seeing you in bed with that idiot? Â â
â And, before I knew you, I was like a completely different person. Â â
â I wish your intestines were tied in knots and ripped apart inside your lousy gut! Â â
â Things fall apart, they fall apart so hard. You canât ever put âem back the way they were. â
â Itâs a long important process, and⊠can we just skip it? Can you just be kissing me now?  â
â In that case why wonât you sleep with me again? Â â
â Weâre in custody. We havenât been charged yet. Â â
â Bored now. â
â Youâve never had any tiny bit of sex, have you? â
â You really need every square inch of your ass kicked. Â â
â Itâs about the power. And thereâs no one in the world who has the power to stop me now. Â â
â You called me a rank, arrogant amateur. Well buckle up, 'Cause Iâve turned pro. Â â
â Sometimes the most adult thing you can do is⊠ask for help when you need it. â
â World gonna end⊠where else would I want to be?  â
â If you wanna kill the world? Well, then start with me. Iâve earned that. Â â
â I donât want to protect you from the world. I want to show it to you.  âÂ

âAre you sure?â It was definitely a step forwards as she slowly sat down. âDonât laugh if itâs absolutely awful.â She joked softly.
âIâll give it a go,â she said, pushing a piece of paper and a pen over the table with a small smile, enjoying the way the conversation seemed to be getting easier.
âRosette. â She held out a hand, wearing a subtle grin. âWhatâs your major? Mine is veterinary medicine.â
âThatâs a nice name,â she smiled, taking Rosetteâs hand, âand Iâm a Chemistry student.â

âWhether I want them or not, games are not going to be done by next year. So, who knows, we might work again. In two years or three, probably. If it helps, I never want a kid to win nor lose. I just want them to not have to participate. If this was just a beauty contestâŠâ
âIf this were a beauty contest I donât think Iâd be so disturbed by the fact that I was a victor, but then again I would be unlikely to win a beauty contest.â it was an attempt at a joke but sheâs convinced it falls short of funny. âbut it is... comforting to hear more about your opinion.â

âYou donât want to know how.â He replied with a shake of his head, drawing back. âJust- donât give up, on yourself or your tributes.â
âWhat do you usually say to them?â she felt like most tributes expected her to be an all-knowing guide through the process and were rather disappointed when she could hardly get a word out.
ofparasol:
âI imagine Iâd be useless at it.â She offered a tentative smile, attempting to at least make comfortable conversation even if she may fail at making any sort of friendship. Although she felt like she was talking to the wrong person if she wanted friends.
âYou can always give it a go, I have some spare paper,â Freya suggested with a cautious smile. She had plenty of enemies in the Capitol maybe having a new friend or at least someone else to talk to wouldnât hurt.
-âSheâs excited.â
-âOf course.â
Witchcraft comes so naturally; it is in the way I feel the sun on my skin and the grass under my feet, the way the stars look and how the wind whispers to me.

Archie drew her into a hug, closing his eyes and whispering, âJust try. Thatâs all you can ever do.â
Freya tensed before allowing herself to relax into the hug, âI donât know how you do it.â

âHey, Iâm just trying to have a little fun and forget that thereâs an unfinished essay waiting for me back in my room.â
âBeen there, done that.â This earned a softer laugh, lounging back against the couch. âGot a name?â
âCall me Mac,â she told the other girl with a grin, âWhat about you?â
ofparasol:
âItâs really good.â She murmured quietly. It felt impossible to talk to any of the mentors, knowing sheâs killed some of their tributes just a year ago.
âItâs alright, just something to keep my hands busy,â It was always strange at first, interacting with the newest victor, after watching them kill your tributes the year before. But most tried to keep the guilt to a minimum when they had all been in the same position.
FREYA MACKENZIE // 19 // DISTRICT 7 // MENTOR
Freya was reaped at the age of 14, no one offering to go in her place since she only had brothers and she wasnât particularly close with anyone else. Before she left for the Capitol, Freya was allowed to say her final goodbyes to her family, promising her brothers that she would try to win.
As she was a young girl when she arrived there were so parts that amazed her, such as the food and the outfits but it couldnât take away from what she was there to do. During the parade, her stylist decided to go against District 7s long-standing tradition of being dressed as trees by basing Freya and her partnerâs outfit of wood nymphs. Before the Games, she was very popular among the citizens, proving herself to be talented with multiple weapons in her private session and coming off as someone who is always relaxed, always smiling, and an open book.
At the start of the games, many tributes were distracted when the youngest tribute stepped off their podium early, causing them to be blown up. This moment pause gave Freya time to grab a dagger plus a backpack with supplies from the Cornucopia. She managed to avoid anyone fighting back until it was down to the last two tributes, by striking at night and killing the others while they slept. She came out of the games with a broken jaw, nerve damage in her left ear and 10 kills under her belt.
After her victory, she became closed off, unwilling to talk to most people and although her jaw healed perfectly well she often uses the injury as an excuse not to talk, meaning she is viewed as an awful mentor. Due to the dramatic personality change, and perceived lasting injuries she lost a lot of popularity among the Capitol citizens.
