I swear I wanted to keep this short but oh well... Isengrim was originally supposed to be just a generic hunter without any concrete backstory. But then I had a dream from his pov where Alfred was telling him something along the lines of "Your lineage is not your fault" (how out of character for him lol). So I decided to make Cainhurst a part of Isengrim's lore. Canonically the good hunter has amnesia and thus Isengrim doesn't remeber shit about his family. Until he actually goes to the castle. He's pretty clueless about the whole blood thing at first too, believing that it's the miracle healing thing people say it is, and only starts somewhat getting the picture when he helps Eileen kill Henryk. We do not talk about how I accidentally killed her on the second playthrough I like basing their lore on how I play the actual game to a degree. And I found Alfred right after beating Gascoine, which was kinda challenging at first and took a lot of blood vials. So Isengrim was badly injured, too much blood in his system to the point where he had to use his cane as a mobilty aid once more. Alfred comes in as a saviour of sorts. A kind face that not only helps him, but actually sticks around, unlike others Isengrim met so far. And Alfred, not knowing about the Dream at first, promises (or threatens) to put him out of his misery as soon as Isengrim shows any sings of lycanthropy. Later it becomes yet another point of guilt for Alfred, because Isengrim starts going insane as soon as the blood moon is uncovered. He can't transform fully, of course, because he is still connected to the Dream. But I feel like neither of them fully understand that. And Alfred doesn't make good on his promise, always saying to himself that he can wait just a bit more. Isengrim is aware of his feelings from the start, more so than Alfred. It's a nuisance, something that keeps coming out no matter how deep he buries it, desperate to have anything even remotely close to warmth in this cursed town, just like Alfred is, except the Executioner has less control of himself at this point. So they both keep their masks up until the Blood-Starved Beast fight. Alfred acts impulsively and almost kills Isengrim after kissing him for the first time, both high on adrenaline.
