Yesterday I finished the breeding system! Works pretty straightforward. After you become mates a breed button appears, and you can get 1-5 pups (not 8, I only have that many since I forgot to delete the old litter lol) Haven't added a cooldown yet, but I will tomorrow. The cooldown will last 8 IRL days (which equals 8 in-game months, may change to 12). Newborn pups have a finicky health stat, like the ones below:
High HP (80-100) - 50%
Med HP (50-70) - 20%
Low HP (20-50) - 20%
Very Low HP (0-20) - 10%
Those numbers are approximate since my head hurts too much to math properly, but if not 100% accurate it's at least 90%.
Pups born with very low hp are automatically runts (at the moment). Ended up not adding illnesses at the moment since I couldn't actually think of any. (besides "fading puppy illness" which includes runts so) Lastly, a young pup's status will update every 6 hours. Their health could drop, or get better! This is where weather/seasons would come in once I eventually add those.
Raising pups in the middle of winter would be difficult since (realistically) newborns are highly susceptible to disease, and they can't regulate their body temperature well so they have to be kept warm. It won't be as in-depth in the game, just their health is more likely to drop every 6 hours rather than rise, which means already weak pups are unlikely to survive in winter.
Good news though! I decided on an item called "spirit's blessing", which raises the health of 1 pup to 100%. It can be obtained from The Gorge for about 200SP. (price subject to change)
What is Wild Souls?
Wild Souls is an in-development online fantasy wolf sim/rpg. Players will be able to customize their own wolf to play as and interact with the world around them. However, Wild Souls is not the usual sim game where users own, manage and collect wolves. It’s kind of like an odd franken-baby of Lioden and Wolfplay, but with it’s own unique spin. Here’s how:
Any wolves not controlled by players (a.k.a npcs) are controlled by AI, allowing the world to grow and change without player intervention. Npcs will be capable of hunting, migrating, managing packs, and having pups on their own. The original 4 packs will have npcs in the alpha position.
Packs are shared among users, and not owned by any 1 person (unless you reach alpha position and don't accept any users in). So if you're in a pack with other people, they can interact with all the same NPCs that you can, and in the same way.
It is not possible to control npcs. For example, users don’t have control over 2 npcs breeding. You can have pups with your own mate, but you can only have 1 mate at a time and you can’t become mates with a wolf that already has one.
That’s how the game is different, but where do the rpg elements come in?
Well, after a while your wolf will eventually die, either to old age or injury. As you play the game you earn spirit points (SP), which can be spent after death on new items that you can use in your next playthrough (like markings, bases, decor, and perks).
The game also has things called “stat’s, skills, and attributes” (we’ll call them ssa for short). Stats are basically your “base power”, and cannot be earned through gameplay. Stats modify skills, and skills determine how well you perform certain actions (like hunting, fighting, or healing). Attributes act as perks, are chosen when you make a character, and can also be unlocked through gameplay via achievements.
Alright, I’m interested. How can I follow the game?
You can follow the development of the game with the links below. Discord is recommended, since that’s where updates are most frequent, and you can get information there before any official news posts are made!

Screenshot of the explore system, inspired by Lioden’s explore system. Smilodons are mean kitties! If you’re not strong enough, you take a large chunk of damage. If you are strong enough, you get the chance to battle. If you win the battle that’s 1 less smilodon in your pack’’s territory, and that’s always good right?
Version 2 of the battle sprite. Like this one much better than the original, which was mainly a placeholder.
