Our favourite wedding trends of 2015
Being a wedding florist allows you to indulge into new inspirations and you'll never tire of seeing the latest trends.
No two weddings are the same, and it's always refreshing to see how each couple puts their own stamp on a wedding, or how each couple will interpret a particular theme or style into their day.
Floristry is forever flourishing, it offers constant creativity with new trends and can interpret ideas in a fresh and unique way. As we look forward to the year ahead, we also look back at some of our favourite moments from the year gone, and what trends we loved putting our creative hands to.
Here's our round up of our favourite trends we loved seeing from our brides in 2015 and enjoyed creating:
Roses, and more roses!
Roses can sometimes be a love, hate choice for brides when choosing their wedding flowers, however more often than not roses will take the centre stage in the bridal bouquet and in 2015 that’s exactly what the rose did for many of our brides.
With a spoilt for choice selection, much time and discussion went into choosing which exact variety of rose or roses to use. With so many varieties available, a rose can represent the perfect colour to compliment a bridal dress and complete a theme, for others it may be a favourite flower or hold sentimental value.
In 2015 we saw more brides embracing the beautiful flower, and in dramatic designs too. Using just one rose variety can result in a jaw-dropping result and will really show off the flower in all its glory.
Cascading bouquets
This trend took off last year and the traditional shower bouquet experienced a dramatic come back as brides opted for varying cascading bouquets on their wedding day. We saw lots of modern twists on this classic design from dense foliages creating a rustic feel to unusual flowers making an appearance, creating a 'less is more' look. Brides dared to be different, so although traditionally a shower bouquet is a larger design full of flower and foliage, last year we were seeing a more slim line shape and incorporating not just cut foliage but wired cacti, feathers and fabrics.
In-awe arches
With weddings, it's all about setting the scene and dressing your venue for you. Many floral designs play a huge role in this more than ever before. In 2015 flower arches were used as a beautiful way to create a romantic backdrop for where couples took their vows, or even at chosen entrances. For outdoor ceremonies they can change the look of your wedding instantly from simple to stunning, and for other venues, like churches for example, they can enhance the natural features. We saw brides experiment a lot with this trend, from full on floral, to el naturele looks with luscious foliages, we think this is definitely something which we will continue to see in 2016.
Grouping
There can be many ways to achieve a particular 'look' or style with flowers. For most designs it will be about getting the balance right. Sometimes less is more, but when you need more than one, what do you do?
Grouping allows you to be odd; odd numbers, odd vases, odd flowers. We saw so many Brides take on this trend in all shapes and sizes. From grouping of small jam jars, to grouping in their bridal bouquet, we love those that are brave enough to challenge the conventions of 'matching'.
Gypsophilia came back!
Whilst most have presumptions of gypsophila being a traditional flower and relatively inexpensive, many brides really embraced this flower and the beautiful floral designs it can offer. It can vary slightly in size and colour, bringing a simple finishing touch to delicate designs, or on mass offer a statement piece.
Proving popular amongst brides with many maids! Throughout 2015 gypsophila featured in many bridal and bridesmaids bouquets, working particularly well against dresses of a pastel palette.
We can’t wait to see what trends we are going to see in 2016!
