He laughs, opening it and pulling out the graduation invitation you had made. You hadnāt expected him to invite you to his, but once he did you felt immense guilt for not inviting him to yours.Ā
āAlso, the back has details about the graduation party after at my place. Iād like it if you came to it even if you donāt come to the ceremony.ā You look away as you quickly tell him.Ā

āErwin!ā You slap his arm as you look around the library. With it being the end of the semester and graduation only a few days away, not many people are there.Ā

You try to keep your face neutral as you remind yourself over and over again that youāre moving too. Heās flying across the country and youāre moving further north for the Ph.D. program youāve been accepted into. Too much time has passed to reply, so you slowly pull away from his grip.Ā
āDonāt be late,ā he smiles and lets your hand go as you walk out of the law section of the library, leaving him to finish studying for the bar exam.Ā
After youāve been hooded, you take your seat with your classmates, waiting for the rest of the ceremony to come to an end. You turn to look back to see if Hange has seated yet, but theyāre not noticing you. You smile, turning back, waiting for the commencement speaker to finish announcing names.Ā
Once the caps have been thrown into the air and chaos ensues trying to make everyoneās way outside the venue. Hange finds you, throwing their arms around you.Ā
āWe survived!ā You laugh, hugging them back. Once youāve released each other, your eyes scan the crowd.Ā

The tall blonde head peeking over a sea of heads is unmistakably him. Hange calls out to him, Levi following behind. They both graduated in the ceremonies yesterday, so the fact they came to sit through another is telling.Ā
āYou made it!ā You canāt help but smile as Erwin's eyes light up.Ā
Levi rolls his eyes. āOf course we did. Itās not everyday our best friends graduate,ā he looks at you when he says the word friends.Ā
āAre you coming to my party later?ā You ask and they both nod. āHange is making their famous punch,ā you laugh, knowing thatāll make them groan.Ā
Last time they made it, everyone ended up puking off the bridge leading across the river down the street from Hangeās place. Itās the only easy walking path home, and a popular spot for drunks to relieve themselves after a night downtown.Ā
āDo not let that happen,ā Erwin looks truly scared of the idea of it.Ā
You shrug. āI need to find my family. Pictures and all that,ā you say feigning glee. āSe ya later then?āĀ
āOf course,ā his fingers brush yours and you turn, looking for your family as you walk away.Ā
They take a million photos with you, most of them unable to stay for the party since they travelled so far for the day. Youāre a bit glad theyāre not staying to watch your friends get inevitably drunker and drunker as the evening progresses.Ā
While you get ready at your apartment, you try not to think about Erwin. He flies home across the country on the red eye tonight. He told you about it weeks ago, but youād been so distracted with school and being in his bed that you justā¦ forgot until today. No, you didn't forget. Itās more like you were just ignoring the facts.Ā
The graduation dress you wore under your regalia needs a lint roller, something you canāt find.The dark fuzz on the white dress has made it look spotted. You finally find one in your overnight bag, rolling it over your dress.Ā
When you arrive at the restaurant you contemplate strangling your mother. The ginormous sign with your name on it and photos from over the years is exactly the opposite of āreservedā like youād asked. She looks so happy when you walk in that you decide itās fine to let her live.Ā
People begin to fill the restaurant, congratulating you and talking to your parents and close family. Hange does in fact bring a gallon of their famous gut wrenching punch, people mildly confused as they explain how they came up with it.Ā
Levi and Erwin come together, avoiding Hangeās punch but grabbing drinks from the bar. You introduce your family to your friends then pull away to go celebrate with them while your family begins to trickle out, leaving you with them.Ā
āYou look,ā Erwin starts as you approach the bar.Ā
āI know,ā you giggle. āIām really glad you came.āĀ
He wraps his arm around your waist, pulling you in close. āYour family is really nice for throwing this for you. The open bar, truly brave too.āĀ
You snort, āI think they forget how much we can all drink. Iām sure Iāll hear about it later.āĀ
He smiles, taking a sip from his glass. The makerās mark is almost gone, so you wave the bar tender over.Ā
āAnother?ā He asks and you nod.Ā
āAnd a Mojito, please.ā You add.Ā
āComing up,ā he goes to make the drinks and you turn your head to Erwin.Ā
āWhat time do you have to go?āĀ
āI board at 10:45.ā He tells you.Ā
Soon. He has to go soon, then. You look forward as the drinks are placed on the bar. You stir your drink with the little straw beside the accented mint. Erwin downs his drink in one go.Ā

āI hope you have a safe flight,ā you tell him, eyes welling up as you turn and go, leaving him with the drink to head to the womenās restroom.Ā
His fingers try to grasp yours, but he canāt hold on as you move too swiftly. The lingering sensation of them snapping away follows you to the restroom. You shut the door, locking it behind you.Ā
You let yourself feel more than casual.
