@wildly-incongruent
today, i'm sitting on my front porch swing
it's 75 degrees in February. I know it's bad for the planet, but I really hate the cold. i'm drinking homemade iced coffee with a metal straw, because while I cannot single-handedly reverse climate change, i still try to do what i can.
i'm sitting with my past self. she's 19 & scared. she says "how much worse can it get? my mother hates me & the president is a facist."
I laugh & reply "oh so much worse. but your mother doesn't hate you, she's also scared. you will forgive her one day, but it'll take time."
"if it only gets worse, then what's the point?"
"it doesn't only get worse, it gets better too. it'll take a while tho"
"i don't think i'm strong enough to make it" her voice cracking & tears welling up in her eyes.
i pull her close & hold her tight, she hasn't gone through the thing that made me hate foreign touch yet.
"of course you are darling, i wouldn't be sitting here if you weren't. that's why i brought you here. i wanted to say thank you. thank you for surviving. thank you for fighting for the beautiful life we get to live today."
she's quiet for a while, weighing the pros & cons like i always do.
she's tired, nauseous at the awareness that this is just the beginning.
"what's the future like?" her voice barely above a whisper.
"well for one thing, the president is still a facist."
her eyes widen in horror, i chuckle at the ludicrousness of it all.
"yeah, he won 2024. we had Biden for a bit & all he did was let roe v wade get overturned."
"I thought you said it gets better!" she yelled, looking betrayed.
"it gets better for us! just not the rest of the world. look around, even the earliest of springs aren't this warm." i do not tell her about Palestine.
"we live with dad, he just bought a house in the mountains. he let us paint the walls pink." I smile, her blue hair contrasts against the view in the window.
"we found an anti depressant that works, we're happily in love, we're halfway to getting our GED, we have a beautiful cat-"
"Blue?"
i shake my head, tears already falling down my face.
"when you take him to the vet for the first time they'll tell you he has a heart murmur. they will warn you that he most likely won't live past 5. listen to them. be good to him. give him so much more catnip." i sobbed, this time my younger self held me.
"we have a new girl named lemon, our sister rescued her off the street. i didn't know if i was ready for another cat but the universe did. i still miss blue with every ounce of my being."
I don't wallow in my feelings anymore though, I thank the grief & let it go till it comes again.
"we still smoke a bunch of weed, except it's a worse legal version because the south sucks but we're tired of going to jail." I don't mention the DUI, it's the experience that made me decide to go to back to school.
"we read books again & we're learning french & crocheting. we make our own bagels & still haven't restrung our ukuleles."
she smiles, looking a bit more hopeful than when i called her.
"that sounds nice." her voice still quiet.
"it is." i sigh, radiating gratitude to send with my past self.
"we're gonna make it better for others too. i don't know how yet, that's something for my future self to tell me."
turning towards the girl with the big blue hair & crooked smile she doesn't appreciate yet, i give her a final hug.
"stay strong. it's worth it"
it's so worth it
i find it funny that conservatives try to paint me calling for the death and destruction of multi-billionaire CEOs as some radical "woke liberal" standpoint. as if that even has anything to do with politics, especially in this era of surface level circus politics. the same way they try to politicize the hurricanes or the wildfires destroying parts of america, as if climate change is somehow a red vs. blue issue. it's no secret i'm from a deeply conservative family in the sticks of florida and i still grew up hearing "i fought the law and the law won". the healthcare system has fucked each and every member of my family in a different way at one point or another, as is the case with pretty much every family in this scorched earth nation. remember when country music, the genre currently associated the heaviest with the most conservative faction of america, used to be staunchly anti-government and about sticking it to the man? remember when the coal miners, grandfathers to the "trump-er hillbillies" of appalachia that everyone loves to write off as ignorant, fought tooth and nail for unionization because the companies that were built off their labor didn't give a shit if they lived or died? since when has "upholding traditional values" gone hand in hand with... defending lawmakers and oil tycoons. my family and i complain about the same issues at the dinner table. the men in charge better hope they can keep their digital smokescreens running as long as they can because the moment the rednecks and the hippies lay down their swords long enough to realize they have the same enemy, all hell is gonna break loose.

the D20 cast is a truly wild yet perfect combination:
emily “hilda hilda” axford - manages to push every interaction to the furthest extreme and commits HARD to making it work. Consistently leaves Brennan speechless, which is a hard thing to do.
Ally “eggroll time” Beardsly - consistently rolls some of the most important narrative Nat 20s. Also has a lot of the best comedic dialogue each season. I always think about the casual “hey, baby” towards Ayda. Cracks me up every time.
Lou “rolling up” Wilson - A great role player. His best moments come when he’s allowed to get frantic. He’s always so disgusted by the enemy the group is fighting. A lesbian ally.
Siobahn “Boggy the Froggy” Thompson - I’ve said it before, a truly underrated player. She is so in tune with combat it’s not even funny, and her characters, while sometimes subtle, have so much heart.
Zac “Are you my dad?” Oyama - King of the himbos. The comedic timing on this guy is incredible, he can make the entire table laugh with just one word. He commits to bits in the long term that get funnier the more you hear them.
Brian “My Gender is Gun” Murphy - Only has two modes: small little guy and BIG HEFTY BOI. The perfect antithesis of Ally’s perfect rolling. Always seems to be a little anxious about whatever’s happening
Brennan “Kill the Dog” “FUCKED Up” “Rad” Lee Mulligan - I don’t need to explain.
I could watch these guys play anything.

So our cat got out recently, and as we were out physically looking for her and doing all the necessary mundane steps, I made this to try and attract her home and keep her safe while she was out. I prayed to St. Anthony (patron of lost things) and St. Francis (patron of animals). I also made appeals to Cernunnos to protect her.
She came home within two days, and we managed to get her back inside, no worse for wear (our poor dog was, though - he tried to chase her and got a scratched ear for it).
important reminder: somewhere nearby, there is a bird.

Silence. Suffocating, agonizing silence, as the audience waited with bated breath. For a fleeting moment Katrina forgot where she was, who she was, how many people were watching. She forgot about everything but the blood dripping from her knuckles, the blood splattered across the ground, the blood-crusted face of her opponent…
Then they spat on her. Rude.
Just like that, the moment was over. She drew her fist back and slammed it into their face, the sickening crack of their nose (or her knuckles) shattering the silence. She watched idly as their eyes rolled before falling closed.
They weren’t dead, but a near thing.
She grinned, hoisting herself to her feet and raising her fist in the air. The commentator said something — probably about her win streak — but she ignored it, perfectly enraptured by the audience’s roar. The applause shot through her veins like a drug, and Katrina was completely and utterly addicted.

The short instructional manifesto for relationship anarchy
This is a new translation/adaptation to English of a relationship anarchy pamphlet by me, Andie Nordgren, published in Swedish as “Relationsanarki i 8 punkter” by Interacting Arts in 2006. More in Swedish on http://www.andie.se - a website I ran actively between 2004 and 2008, where relationship anarchy was defined and explored by myself and others.
Love is abundant, and every relationship is unique
Relationship anarchy questions the idea that love is a limited resource that can only be real if restricted to a couple. You have capacity to love more than one person, and one relationship and the love felt for that person does not diminish love felt for another. Don’t rank and compare people and relationships - cherish the individual and your connection to them. One person in your life does not need to be named primary for the relationship to be real. Each relationship is independent, and a relationship between autonomous individuals.
Love and respect instead of entitlement
Deciding to not base a relationship on a foundation of entitlement is about respecting others’ independence and self-determination. Your feelings for a person or your history together does not make you entitled to command and control a partner to comply with what is considered normal to do in a relationship. Explore how you can engage without stepping over boundaries and personal beliefs. Rather than looking for compromises in every situation, let loved ones choose paths that keep their integrity intact, without letting this mean a crisis for the relationship. Staying away from entitlement and demands is the only way to be sure that you are in a relationship that is truly mutual. Love is not more “real” when people compromise for each other because it’s part of what’s expected.
Find your core set of relationship values
How do you wish to be treated by others? What are your basic boundaries and expectations on all relationships? What kind of people would you like to spend your life with, and how would you like your relationships to work? Find your core set of values and use it for all relationships. Don’t make special rules and exceptions as a way to show people you love them “for real”.
Heterosexism is rampant and out there, but don’t let fear lead you
Remember that there is a very powerful normative system in play that dictates what real love is, and how people should live. Many will question you and the validity of your relationships when you don’t follow these norms. Work with the people you love to find escapes and tricks to counter the worst of the problematic norms. Find positive counter spells and don’t let fear drive your relationships.
Build for the lovely unexpected
Being free to be spontaneous - to express oneself without fear of punishments or a sense of burdened “shoulds” - is what gives life to relationships based on relationship anarchy. Organize based on a wish to meet and explore each other - not on duties and demands and disappointment when they are not met.
Fake it til’ you make it
Sometimes it can feel like you need to be some complete super human to handle all the norm breaking involved in choosing relationships that don’t map to the norm. A great trick is the “fake it til’ you make it” strategy - when you are feeling strong and inspired, think about how you would like to see yourself act. Transform that into some simple guidelines, and stick to them when things are rough. Talk to and seek support from others who challenge norms, and never reproach yourself when the norm pressure gets you into behaviour you didn’t wish for.
Trust is better
Choosing to assume that your partner does not wish you harm leads you down a much more positive path than a distrustful approach where you need to be constantly validated by the other person to trust that they are there with you in the relationship. Sometimes people have so much going on inside themselves that there’s just no energy left to reach out and care for others. Create the kind of relationship where withdrawing is both supported and quickly forgiven, and give people lots of chances to talk, explain, see you and be responsible in the relationship. Remember your core values and to take care of yourself though!
Change through communication
For most human activities, there is some form of norm in place for how it is supposed to work. If you want to deviate from this pattern, you need to communicate - otherwise things tend to end up just following the norm, as others behave according to it. Communication and joint actions for change is the only way to break away. Radical relationships must have conversation and communication at the heart - not as a state of emergency only brought out to solve “problems”. Communicate in a context of trust. We are so used to people never really saying what they think and feel - that we have to read between the lines and extrapolate to find what they really mean. But such interpretations can only build on previous experiences - usually based on the norms you want to escape. Ask each other about stuff, and be explicit!
Customize your commitments
Life would not have much structure or meaning without joining together with other people to achieve things - constructing a life together, raising children, owning a house or growing together through thick and thin. Such endeavors usually need lots of trust and commitment between people to work. Relationship anarchy is not about never committing to anything - it’s about designing your own commitments with the people around you, and freeing them from norms dictating that certain types of commitments are a requirement for love to be real, or that some commitments like raising children or moving in together have to be driven by certain kinds of feelings. Start from scratch and be explicit about what kind of commitments you want to make with other people!

SCREAMING OVER THIS
will: I'd like a grilled cheese.
waittress: of course coming right up sir
hannibal: interesting... when one applies heat to the square slice of cheese on your sandwich, it will undergo a metamorphosis. What was once a solid now becomes liquid...perhaps too much so to contain between slices of toasted bread. Yet we will still call it cheese. Tell me Will, have you become difficult to contain under the heat of your past? Or are you still an innocent slice of cheese,
I feel like not having watched Hannibal makes these posts like 2000% funnier for me
