Original hand-painted ‘stretching portrait’ used in Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion.

As the elevator in the mansion descends, these portraits would ‘stretch’ to reveal their full image. However, the consistent ‘stretching’ would eventually cause some wear to the canvas, and these portraits would need to be replaced.

From 1969 to 1972, these portraits were all hand-painted, whereas later versions were printed.

This image was designed by Imagineer Marc Davis.

The canvas measures 120" x 45″.
