okie dokie, here is my tutorial for how i make gifs! i use adobe photoshop cc 2019 but i’m sure it can be substituted with other programs.
STEP ONE - find a youtube video, pretty self explanatory. you can also find a tiktok video if you prefer to do that. remember videos with higher qualities (at least 720p) works best!
STEP TWO - save the video! if you’re using youtube, you can save the video by going to https://gifrun.com/ and inserting the url there. if you’re using tiktok, you can right click and save. if not, try uploading it to gifrun as well!
when saving with gifrun do not use the make gif feature. instead, right click on the side video and click “save video” and save it as a MP4
STEP THREE - open photoshop and the file. make sure you have the motion panel toggled (can be accessed on the top right of the screen)
STEP FOUR - play around with the video layer and adjust it to when you want the gif to start and stop. if you are happy with the gif at this stage, skip to step 8.
STEP FIVE (optional) - crop the video/gif to your desired shape. if you want it to be a perfect square/icon, you can hold shift while using the rectangular marquee tool.
STEP SIX (optional) - adjust the image size to reduce the size of the file. click image > image size > and adjust to the size you want it. typically for icons, i like to do 250 px. make sure your resolution is set at 300. you can see my full settings below. it will ask you to convert to smart layer, press yes.
STEP SEVEN (optional) - sharpen the gif by going to filter > sharpen > smart sharpen. play around the settings as it may be different per gif. in addition to this, you can also do filter > sharpen > sharpen (usually once or twice is enough).
STEP EIGHT - export your file. go to file > export > save for web (legacy). adjust the gif to your desired settings, below are mine.
and ta-da, you’re done! enjoy your unlimited supplies of gifs :3 hehe
