First Haps Article
Here's the first of my Busan Haps articles. Check out the original on my site, Busan Awesome.
Busan Haps article from earlier this summer
Tom McKee and I wrote this article earlier in the summer originally for Busan Awesome, and then Busan Haps Magazine picked it up: 2 Days in Busan. (For more Busan, check out my site Busan Awesome!)
Tuesday Morning in Busan
Wake up to a man walking down the street talking into a loud speaker. WA WAAA WA WA WAWA WA WAAAAWAWA. I look out the window. He's selling... old damaged roman shades and a roll of astro-turf? Nobody knows.
Make the coffee using the best recipe ever. One packet of coffee mix (AKA 3-in-1 (coffee+cream+sugar)); one heaping spoonful of regular freeze-dried instant coffee; water 3/4ths of the way up, and then 1/4th milk. Milky, sweet, yet sufficiently strong. Awesome.
Talk to my sister for an hour. Studying for the GMAT. Math galore.
Bike over to the bank with AJ for some hardcore banking. Don't worry, it's not what you think; we're all fully-clothed. After pointing at our checkbook and saying "new!" about four times, everybody understands and we get what we want.
Kill some time by catching up on videos from soccer games I missed from the weekend. Meanwhile, AJ is emailing the dress-maker for our wedding next June. Dilemma: Wide sash or narrow sash? What color? Discussion spills over to my suit. Navy or grey? What color tie? "Yeah, we'll figure it out later."
Almost time for work. Pick out clothes. AJ opts for jeans, white tank top and tan cardigan. I go for navy pants, purple shirt, and my trusty black Adidas track jacket. Make some PB&J sandwiches, cut up some kiwi, and we're off!
Best Football (soccer) Podcasts
I spend WAY too much time listening to football podcasts. Here are my favorite ones and what they cover:
My favorite one: Beyond the Pitch - Anto and Phil put out at least 4-5 20-minute interviews per week, covering football all over the world - definitely an awesome comprehensive podcast for those who have eclectic football tastes - covering mostly European football, but also touches base with South America and Asia from time to time. All the best correspondents in the world of football. Very cool. Plus, Anto is a Milan fan, so they put out an occasional Milan-focused podcast. Excellent.
Football Weekly from The Guardian - This is my favorite 'English-Centric' podcast, which covers mostly England, but also spends a little time on La Liga (Spain), the Bundesliga (Germany) and Serie A (Italy). Great cast of personalities and journalists - James Richardson, Barry Glendenning, Raphael Honigstein and Sid Lowe.
The Game podcast from The Times - Covers the EPL (English Premier League), but also has interesting 'bonus' podcasts. Hosted by the great Gabriele Marcotti.
ESPN Soccernet podcast - Another predominantly-EPL podcast from the best football website. Consistently great stuff, though.
The Bundesliga Podcast - Great podcast from Dan Levy and other Eurosport commentators covering the German game. They're actually on hiatus now until January. Excellent sense of humor, and lots of talk about Felix Magath's balls.
World Football Daily - Subscription and North-American based podcast. 2 hours of football talk EVERY DAY, which is impressive. It's also a lot to sort through. Fantastic if you have a long commute to work.
Literal announcing
The other day, a soccer pundit blew open what must become a huge controversy of implied witchcraft - the Manchester City player David Silva was "literally floating around the field." He must have been using levitation or some shoes that had a spell on them, because I can't think of any other way someone can float around a field.
Seriously though, just don't use the word "literally."
Some other gems from the same pundit:
"He literally hasn't got a right foot"
"The ball was literally served to him on a platter"
"He literally becomes a greyhound"
Sportsbras!? Come on, Nike...
