The commercial scene always brings me so much joy, even after watching it so many times. It's how Ilya says "You look pretty" and Shane interpretes it as an insult/joke but please we all know Ilya really thinks he is pretty. That boy was already so deep into it, so deep he suggested to do the commercial with Shane. But it's really the moment where they are skating towards each other and Ilya can't stop laughing that's so wholesome. They are being so silly and I love silly hollanov with my whole heart. And then just to think Ilya gifted Shane a framed picture of this commercial, like it really meant so much to him🥹 They hadn't even done anything (just) yet but Ilya definitely was already too far gone for Shane with no point of return even if he didn't fully realize it himself yet.
Kinda surreal to see this many kudos and hits on one of my fics that's even just a one shot I came up with randomly after I had just become obsessed with this beautiful series. 1.000 kudos really feels like a milestone. I don't write just for kudos and hits, I write because it's one of my favourite things to do in my free time and it keeps me creative. But it does feel rewarding and it is a motivation to keep posting my fics. Always greatful for every kudo, hit or comment on one of my fics🩷
A long distance Valentine
Here is a little Hollanov Valentine's fic. I don't think Shane and Ilya would really celebrate Valentine's day usually or they wouldn't really think it's very important but in this case Shane really misses his boyfriend and Ilya wants to cheer him up so they have a little Valentine's dinner :))

The Ottawa Centaurs are winning against Toronto. Shane is watching his boyfriend on tv, skating over the ice, scoring another goal, his second one of the game. It's as close as he can get to his boyfriend on Valentine's day. He never really cared about it, never really had someone he wanted to celebrate it with. But now that his boyfriend is so far away while he is all alone in his Colorado hotel room and all he sees is happy couples on his feed, he does care. One Valentine's post after the other appears on his Instagram. He doesn't know why he cares this much but it probably has to do with the fact that he misses Ilya so much, it actually works on his mood. He knows he will feel better when he and Ilya have face timed after the game but that's still a few hours away.
Eventually the Centaurs win the game. Shane keeps watching because he knows Ilya will be interviewed. When he appears before the camera all sweaty and shirtless, Shane's heart skips a beat. He loves how Ilya looks after a game, his curls widely laying over his head, sweat dripping off his chest. And now he has that winning smile on his face. Fuck, he looks so good. He needs him, he wants him. Fuck, he misses him.
In the following two hours, he checks the time on his phone every few minutes, hoping time will go faster. He at least needs to hear Ilya's voice, see his adorable smile. They know what it is to be apart, they have been apart for so many years but now that they are really together, the distance gets harder every time. Even now that Ilya has recently started playing for the Ottawa Centaurs, distance is still an issue. It's better but not how they wish it could be.
When his phone starts ringing, Shane answers the call as fast as he can. Ilya appears on his screen in a setting he didn't really expect. He is sitting on the ground, in front of a small coffee table. The table is decorated with two candles and what seems like a room service kind of dinner.
"What's this?", Shane asks and a wide smile appears on his face.
"It's Valentine's day after all and I know you've been struggling with the distance lately and I never really did a Valentine's day but I thought this might be what you need", even in the dim light, Shane can see Ilya is blushing.
Suddenly there is a knock on Shane's hotel room door. He ignores it until Ilya says he can better open the door.
When Shane opens the door, he sees Hayden with a tray full of food. Shane starts to realise what this is. Ilya wants a romantic dinner and probably asked Hayden to help him.
"Food service Pike, I've got your order mr. Hollander", Hayden says when he is inside and Shane takes the tray from him.
"Food service Pike?", he laughs.
"Don't make me regret this", Hayden replies.
"So Ilya asked you to help him?", Shane asks surprised.
"Yeah, well the only reason I'm doing this is because I hope that after this your mood will be a lot better than the last few days", Hayden says.
"I'm sorry- I-", Shane tries to apologise but Hayden interrupts him.
"Go enjoy your food and your little rendezvous, I will be at the bar until you're ready. Just sent me a message when you two are done", Hayden smiles and leaves the hotel room.
Shane closes the door and takes the tray and puts it on the coffee table in his hotel room. He positions his phone behind his food. It's already 11 pm and it's probably past the time you should eat creamy pasta with mushrooms but Shane doesn't care.
"Those candles seem very safe and allowed", Shane smiles at Ilya, a smile that will probably be stuck on his face for the rest of the night.
"I bought them this morning, I wanted it to look real. Nobody will know", Ilya smiles.
Shane doesn't answer, he only looks at his beautiful boyfriend on his screen. He looks exhausted after the game but Shane is so incredibly happy to see him and hear him. The fact that he did all this to just cheer him up, warms his heart. God, he loves him so much.
"Thank you for all this", Shane feels tears burning behind his eyes.
"I needed this too and I really love to see that happy smile of yours", Ilya says.
"I've been so down the last few days, I don't know, it's just harder than usual", Shane confesses.
"I know", Ilya replies, "But lets eat before this actually gets cold".
While they eat dinner they talk about Ilya's game and all other things they have to catch up on. Talking to Ilya and laughing with his jokes makes Shane feel lighter again. The feeling he felt the last few days disappears.
"Have I already said you're the best boyfriend?", Shane says when they have both finished dinner.
"Of course I am", Ilya smiles playfully.
"Fuck you Rozanov", Shane teases.
"Oh I wish Hollander", Ilya says dramatically.
"I should probably thank Hayden too", Shane says when they have both finished dinner.
"He is a good friend, if he didn't want to help I don't know how I would've surprised you", Ilya says.
"He is", Shane smiles.
For a moment it's silent. Shane looks at Ilya and he has that sudden urge. He wishes he could kiss him, touch him, feel him, have him on top of him and rip him apart in the best way possible.
"Just a week", Ilya probably noticed his expression.
"I know but it will only be for two days", Shane sighs, "I wish we could have more time".
"I miss you too and god, I need you", Ilya leans back against the small couch behind him.
"Just a week", Shane teases him even though a week also feels like torture to him but they still have tonight and he is sure tonight hasn't ended yet, not after all the effort Ilya put into cheering him up.
"I wish I could fly over right now", Ilya sighs.
"I know you would if you could", Shane replies.
"Imagine if you played for Ottawa too", Ilya says.
"You would want to play together?", Shane asks.
"We're a good team, on and off the ice", Ilya replies.
"I guess we are but..."
"It's not realistic, I know".
"Remember that one All Star game?", Shane asks.
"The one where I kissed you on the cheek after you scored?", Ilya says playfully.
"Yeah, that one", Shane laughs.
"It was fun", Ilya replies.
"Who knows what the future brings", Shane says. Life has surprised him in so many ways that he is prepared for anything to happen. As long as Ilya will be in his future, he knows everything will be okay.

He takes hold of Ilya's hand, dragging him to the bedroom as if he is never letting go of it again. That little kiss and him grabbing Ilya's finger dragging him to the bedroom with that proud and happy smile on his face. Then later the loon call and the whole conversation on the couch. Ilya was finally with him in the most complete way possible and Shane would never let go of that again. That man will never let anyone steal his man, like he will make sure of that.

So hear me out, a photographer Ilya x famous model Shane AU and this is a picture Ilya took backstage during a photoshoot capturing Shane's genuine smile. They would also be in an exes kinda situation. (Yes, this is in fact the fic I'm writing rn, chapter 1 coming soon I guess, I hope)

I just love love love the way the scenes with the foot touches represent how grounded Shane and Ilya are when they are with each other and how they are on the same page in those exact moments.
During the first scene when they tap their shoes against each other during the interview in episode 1, Ilya is struggling with his words, not really understanding the questions and having a hard time puzzling sentences together. He is the one who touches Shane's foot first. It's kinda playful and builds tension. But it's also Ilya reaching out to Shane because he is nervous. When he doesn't seem to manage to form an answer on the next question Shane taps his foot. Playfully again but also in a reassuring way. When Shane has answered the question, Ilya still needs to answer and says "What he said" and their feet touch again. It really just shows no matter how much pressure their under, it will all be okay when they are together. They are in the moment when they are together. Another important thing to point out is that in this exact scene they are talking about the future of their teams. This could be a foreshadowing of the foot touches in episode 6 where they touch their feet when the conversations are about their future together.
When they are at the cottage, lying on the couch with their feet touching, they are having an important conversation. They are talking about their future, how Ilya could get American citizenship. They are talking about marriage. They are talking about a possible future together. At first they aren't on the same page when Ilya proposes the idea of marrying Svetlana. But the further they get into the conversation and the more they are being honest about their feelings, the more they are getting on the same page. They are in the moment, talking with each other about something they deeply want. Neither of them explicitly says they want to marry each other but you can feel the idea is there in the air between them. Their feet touching symbolises how grounded they are in that moment. They are talking about the future but they're not daydreaming. Deep inside they know what they want and they want to make that happen. They are not floating on a cloud, they want to make plans to make that one thing real they've wanted for years. The time they are at the cottage first feels like a fantasy they are living in, something that isn't possible. But it's that cottage that makes them realise that they don't want it to be just a two week fantasy. They want this for real and they want to fight for it.
We also see them touching their feet when they are at Shane's parents house after they've been discovered. Another important moment where they are grounded and on the same page. Ilya wanted to be there with his boyfriend. He wanted to be there for him, to show his parents that it isn't just a joke but that he really loves their son. He lets Shane talk to his parents mostly but he always looks at Shane, observing him and jumping in when needed. Ilya knows how important Shane's parent's are to him. They touch their feet after they've both declared their love for each other to Shane's parents. Again they are grounded and in the moment and on the same page.

Hi hi, the year is almost over and that's why I'm here with the last chapter of The Truth Always Comes Too Late. I really really enjoyed this fic and it's so amazing to see the response I got on this fic. Firefighter Wille and paramedic Simon will always be close to my heart. I really hope you will enjoy this last chapter :)) I'm kinda emotional writing this since I've been writing on this fic for almost a year. This fic means a lot to me.
