adelaide-bourbon:
Adelaide had been dancing all night. She enjoyed the frivolity of it all, enjoyed the gaiety of it and the brightness of the ballroom. She reveled in these atmospheres back at home and although far from it, found a sense of belonging among her peers here. Several times she had sought to relax among the crowd not dancing, only to be pulled back in by a friend or a member of the court. She finally had a moment, looking at the lone man in the corner, “William Hanover,” She curtsied low, hand bowed over her chest, “A pleasure to see you again.”
She listened as he spoke, grabbing a glass of wine from a nearby table, “I do say we’ve had just a bit of war for one day, don’t you? Isn’t it nice to finally relax for a bit?” She laughed as a couple whirled past her, headed for the center of the room, “You don’t seem to be enjoying this, however.”
"Princess Adelaide." William said, responding in kind as due her station even as he withheld a sigh. It was an amazing experience, but just the sight of her left William with the peculiar sensation that he could feel a disagreement forming if they continued on a conversational topic involving the war or any other such political avenue. Perhaps England and France were friends now, but William knew friendships that were truly forged by iron and he couldn't say that things felt the same when it came to France.
"Perhaps I'd enjoy it with the proper company, but I find that my heart lingers at home." Maybe it was easy for her to forget the troubles of war and bask in splendor, but William couldn't share her enthusiasm so easily. After all, he highly doubted that she suffered from the war as much as the people who fought in it and where was their relaxation? "You seem to be in your element, however. Feeling encouraged to throw a party of your own?"
