Here is a quick snapshot of the trading port I took this morning on my way to work. It was quite busy today! The weather is getting nicer, so people were probably itching to go fishing. I am so glad we have horses! Those barrels are not easy to carry around. Horses help do a lot of the heavy lifting. Can we take a moment to recognize the sails on those ships! Those men have been working hard to get them perfect. I am just in love with this picture. Maybe photography is my new calling.

We all know that family is very important to me, but so is religion. I am proud to be able to say that I am a Puritan. Protestantism is a big part of my life. I was raised in an Anglican household. They followed the rules of the Church of England. However, it always reminded me of Catholicism. I did not like the way it was run. I believed that the church needed to be purified. Protestantism resembles exactly that. We run our own churches in the Congregational Church. It is run like a democracy. We also believe in predestination. Only a few would be saved. I remember the day I became a member of the church like it was yesterday. I had to tell them about the moment I realized and understood the spiritual nature of Protestantism after listening to sermons and reading the bible. I would not want to be a part of any other religion!

Recently, a lot of strange occurrences have been happening around town. A few of us from the congregation believe that it is witchcraft. Many people around town have already been accused of performing such unholy acts. There has been talk that there will be trials for the alleged witches. Those sinners should not be able to walk on this Earth. Hopefully God resolves this mess soon.

I had to attend today’s town meeting. We had an important matter to discuss. Not like our normal, road repair issues. This time our current schoolmaster, Sir Thomas Lowell, had fallen ill and could no longer perform his duties. We could not leave our children without a leader in their school for too long. It was urgent for us to choose the next leader. After all, our towns were in charge of providing our children with at least an elementary education. I want my sons to go on and attend Harvard College, which was established in 1636 to train local boys for the ministry. Protestantism is very important to our family and I want my kids to understand that. Here is a quick snapshot of our quite heated discussion before we all voted on who the next schoolmaster would be. Spoiler alert! With a vote of thirty five to fifteen, John Cove was elected the next schoolmaster!

My wife, Anna Louise, is expecting our fourth child very soon. She had lost the last two during childbirth. She is very uneasy about giving birth next month due to the high rate of deaths during child labor. A few of the neighborly women have recently passed away from giving birth. Not only did they pass away, the babies also did not survive. Anna Louise’s mother has been by her side ever since we learned that she is once again pregnant. Last time she gave birth to a stillborn baby. I can occasionally still hear her weeping at night. I really hope that this time both my wife and child are okay. I do not want the other children to have to grow up without a mother. They need to learn obedience and have their mother around. Looking over our children is already a full time job and I would not be able to take care of them, while also working. Hopefully everything goes well.

Our neighbors and Anna Louise’s parents have been very helpful during this hard time. I do not know how we would make it without them. We are a very tight knit society, which I am thankful for. I could not imagine my life without Anna Louise. Separation is not common in Massachusetts. Divorce is very rare in our society. I would never abandon or leave my wife and children. I care about them deeply. Family is the center of life, especially in the New England colonies. Keep my family in your prayers!

It has been a long, harsh winter. I cannot wait until it is over. Massachusetts is known for having hot summers and extremely cold winters, but this year has been even worse. When I first arrived here, I could not stand the extreme weather conditions. It almost sent me running back home to the South. I am glad I didn’t, though. I learned how to embrace the weather and recognize the beauty in it. Even though, right now I kind of wish it were a little warmer! Our diversified climate allows us to have a wide range of industries and agriculture. Our soil may not be great, like it is down south, but we have utilized our geography to make the most of it.

 In the southern colonies, they’re known for their tobacco and rice plantations, which were maintained by slaves or indentured servants. Here, slavery is not very popular. There are not large enough plantations or farms to need slaves. So, we found other ways to make the most of the land, while also making money. Since we are along the Atlantic coast, we use it to our advantage. The ocean allowed us to be a part of the triangle trade, whaling, shipbuilding, and so much more. Anyway, I have to go out to check on the livestock and make sure that they are okay. Hope I do not freeze on the walk over there!

Hello! Welcome to William’s World. My name is William Honoway and I am thirty five years old. I just learned about this whole blogging thing and wanted to share my life with everyone because I have had quite a crazy experience. My father had traveled from Europe to the New World seventy years ago. He was an indentured servant for three years before acquiring his own land and meeting my mother. As a young boy, my family and I lived in the South and owned a tobacco plantation. When my father and mother had passed, my eldest brother, Andrew, took over the estate. With the quick spread of diseases and looming poverty, I set out to find a better life for myself. I decided to move up North to the New England Colonies in search of the land that Reverend John White described. He stated that, “No country yields a more propitious air for our temper than New England.” I mean who wouldn’t want to go to a place so wonderful? I landed in the Massachusetts Bay Colony a few weeks later. 

Moving to the Massachusetts Bay Colony changed my life forever. When I first arrived I started working as a ship builder. I found it quite fascinating. The transition at first was difficult. My whole life all I knew was how to run and maintain a tobacco plantation. In the North, tobacco  was not a popular crop, due to the sterile soil. I had to learn how to adapt. A while passed before I got the hang of things. When I was finally financially stable, I found my wife, Anna Louise. She is the daughter of a proprietor. We are currently living on an estate that her father granted us when we got married. We started our family a few years ago. Now we are up to three children. If my wife keeps having children at this rate, we are going to need a bigger estate! Follow me on this journey and I will keep you updated on all aspects of my life!
