the alternate universe where byclair was real… where lucas’s feeling of being replaced when el joined the group and his resentment at mike seemingly deprioritizing will is mirrored in mike’s reaction when lucas and will grow closer… where lucas joining the basketball team to escape bullying and achieve a sense of normalcy is foiled with will self imploding because he feels like he can’t escape being a freak and now he feels even lucas has abandoned him… will still having the unrequited feelings for mike but his growing bond w lucas serves as a contrast…

It is emblematic of S5’s issues that Mike has a nice moment with Holly pre-vanishing (but barely reacts to her being kidnapped) while Nancy gets to freak out over Holly’s kidnapping (but has no interaction with her beforehand). Because I do think they were trying to give each character something, but assigning one character all the preexisting affection for Holly and the other all the reaction, with no overlap, just undermines the emotional stakes for both characters.

I’m imagining Jonathan trying to signal his acceptance to Will (more explicitly than in S4) without freaking him out, and ultimately landing on “you know, I’d still love Mom if she were gay.” And this is so out of left field that Will (annoyed at Hopper) is just like “ugh, I wish Mom were a lesbian.”

Headcanon that Jonathan becomes a filmmaker who gets known for making very dark, gritty films with a lot of political commentary, and one day, he announces that he's making a film focusing around a nonverbal little girl who's just run away from her abusive household. Because of his reputation, everyone expects it to be a psychological horror, but instead, it's all about this girl running into a group of kids and discovering friendship and real family love. Her abuse is never shown on screen or even explicitly discussed, and her abuser never appears in the movie. It's not dark at all, it's just a little girl learning to be a girl and making friends. It's not actually about abuse, it's almost ridiculously feel-good and happy the whole way through.

It gets flamed for 'not being dark enough' and 'not tackling the depth of her abuse,' but when an interviewer asks him of what he thinks of these opinions, he just says that he doesn't believe an abuse victim's story needs to revolve around suffering, and he just wanted the girl to experience happiness.

He gets called idealistic for acting like an abused girl could so easily find happiness and peace with no issue, but Jonathan doesn't care. This is the one area where he's not interested in realism. He lived that already.

Will apologizing to randoms that barely got in his personal space (sorry, she don't play about me. She don't bite.... I swear). The randoms are Mike/Lucas/Dustin asking where Will found this girl mean mugging the shit outta them. Battle of possessive sister vs possesive homies, Will is tired so he fucks off drawing in a corner somewhere until they realize he's missing and panic and team up to find him cuz they not losing him again but also Will's good at hiding and just wanna make them sweat a little bit on his mischievous vibes

El secretly grades other people's siblingisms. She wants to beat the Wheelers and Sinclairs as best sister ever. This quest of hers is entirely one-sided. Will needs to help her un-learn that toxic shit Brenner and Henry taught in the labs, so if she's good she gets a reese's pieces and if she backslides Will makes her listen to Mike's music choices (she also gotta listen to Mike sing, her most un-favorite past time)

El cries cuz her hair won't cooperate and become a bob so she tells Will he must grow his out to match. Will knows its hard work, but that's his sis and he gone stick beside her.
