There had been days Rosie had found to get out of bed, or that things just didn’t go her way. She had made many mistakes, and she had tried to leave the memory of Jonny behind in order to try and move on. But it had never worked on her favor, in fact the one time she had managed to fall in love once again it had simply shattered her heart, her confidence, and her determination to continue on. However it had thought her that even after Jonny she could still fall in love again, and that it didn’t meant she was forgetting about him, no sir. Because he still lived in her heart, in her mind, and no one would ever be able to take away what he have given her.
William had come out of nowhere, when she hadn’t been expecting anything nor anyone. But the company of his texts, the late night conversations, the good morning messages, it had all felt okay. There was a peace in her chest that he brought with him, it didn’t feel intense and out of breath like it had felt before him and after her late husband. In fact, the initial excitement he had awaken in her, felt a lot similar to what she had felt once upon a time with Jonny, and she took that a sign that it was okay.
Rosie smiled as she looked in the mirror, there was nothing casual about her looks, if ever, she always looked prim and proper and with a somewhat grace to her. She wore an off the shoulders black dress that dipped into a V and that hug her figure favorably all the way to gently caress her knees. She paired it with her favorite pearl necklace and accessories, and some strappy heels. Her hair fell over her shoulders and down her back in perfect curls that gave her more of a laid back style. And though she was satisfied with her look, she still felt nervous about the evening.
While she had been into someone not long ago, dates had not been their thing. Rosie couldn’t remember when was the last time she had been invited out. The young brunette had been standing in front of the mirror down stairs and near the door, securing her earrings when the door rang. Her green eyes looked down at Jonnys military portrait and she graved it to kiss it before setting it down and walking to the door. Taking a deep breath before opening the door.
“William Abernathy, you clean up nicely.” She said in her low gentle voice, giving him one of her most charming smiles. “Are those for me?” She asked looking down at the beautiful flowers. He sure knew how to threat a girl, she hadn’t received flowers since Jonny. With that she shook her head mentally, enough about Jonny, her attention was on William tonight.
There was a brief pause before William said anything to Rosie’s compliment or question, as his chestnut eyes swept up and down her figure. From the first moment he saw her, standing on the side of the road, Will had thought Rosie was adorable. Tiny, with long dark hair, and full, flushed cheeks. Now, though, she was something else. Now she looked.. sexy. It knocked the breathe right out of him, seeing her in that skin-tight, black dress, but after a moment he managed to compose himself and say, “Thank you. These are for you. I saw them at the market today, and they were so beautiful they made me think of you.” He chuckled. The sound was kind of nervous, and he shoved a hand through his hair to try and soothe himself. How good she looked didn’t help his anxiety, or his guilt. Not only was he going on a date with another woman, now he was imaging what it’d be like to peel that little number from her body. STOP. He chided himself for such lust. It was unlikely, William told himself, she even felt the same way. Her husband had passed not too long ago, and more than anything he wanted to be her friend first. William thought she needed that, just as much as he did.
“Are you ready to go?” He asked as he held out his arm for her to take. “I have a table waiting for us at Lucky 32.”
There were many things his mothers, Abby and Nora, had taught him over the years. How to cook a good, homemade meal, and how to treat a lady two of the most important. He would open every door for Rosie during their time together tonight. First to his jeep, and then at the restaurant. He’d pull out every chair, and stand any time she chose to leave the table. Rosie Moretti would be treated like a queen tonight, and William Abernathy would love every minute of it.
Loaded into his jeep and driving away from Rosie’s place of residence, William pointed out a newly renovated, three bedroom, brick home just a block from her place. “That’s where I live,” He told her with a smile. “I just opened my pool for the summer, if you fancy yourself a dip. I work a lot, so you’re welcome even if I’m not home.” His eyes flickered from the road to Rosie and, quite unwillingly, back again. “As long as you promise me you won’t drown, of course.”
