Space looked back at Alfred with a shrug in response. He knew Jonah, but he still had yet to understand the kid as well as his relation with Jacee. Clyde didn’t take his eyes off Jacee. The child was terribly confused and scared. He’d never seen his mom act like this before and he was unsure about when he could go back to her again for more cuddles. He didn’t even know if he was even going to get cuddles anymore.

Jacee was so happy to be back with Jonah again after this terrible emotional roller coaster. Being with Jonah here calmed her down a lot more than the attempt that Alfred made. Now she was just a sniffling mess. She didn’t even want to answer anything he said, but she eventually did. After the little cheek kiss she looked at him with such a damaged look on her face. “Jonah. Jonah, I lost Will.”

Alfred runs his hands down his face as he crawls over to Clyde and Space. He just sits by them as he sighs softly. Alfred just gives Clyde a reassuring smile and he looks over at the two lovebirds. Meanwhile Jonah’s friends are also on standby. But they are looking around, they know that this much noise can start something.

Jonah didn’t care that the others are watching them, all he care about is that he has Jacee in his arms. He looks at her when she spoke and then Jonah looks devastated as well. He knows how important Will is to Jacee, he sees how Will cherished Jacee likes she’s his precious sister and vice versa with Jacee to him. “I’m so sorry, Jacee. Oh heavens, I’m really sorry Jacee.” He whispers lightly, putting his forehead against hers as he looks at her. “I’m here for you. I’m here.”

Jacee continued to struggle to get him to let her go, but it was no use with this guy’s iron grip. The kid was already bursting into tears and shouting foolish arguments at him. “YOU ALREADY LEFT WILL BEHIND WHY NOT ME TOO??”

She gasped and froze for a moment when she heard Jonah’s voice. She stood there in Alfred’s arms stunned for a minute as she wasn’t expecting to run into Jonah here. She just wanted to go to him and hold on to him like she didn’t get to do with Will. She didn’t want to lose more.

With that in her mind, she started shoving at Alfred again, this time a little less aggressively, and looked in Jonah’s direction. “JONAH!!” She called to him through sobs while trying to hold her hand out to him. “JONAH!!!”

Alfred was about to counter argue that it was already too late but he moves to let go of Jacee when she stopped and this dude, Jonah, takes her into his arms and cradles her gently. Alfred sat there on the ground looking at them both before looking over at Space and Clyde like WHAT IS GOING ON? He swears he should just tell Jacee that he’s a nation and out of all these thousand years, he has yet to meet someone as strange as her.

Jonah cradles Jacee in his arms as he moves to cup her cheek to look at her properly before he tugs her to a tight hug. “Oh thank god you’re safe. Jacee, Oh god, what happened to you. You look like a mess there, baby doll. I thought I’d never get to see you again after this happened.” He slides his hands to run through her hair, pressing his lips to kiss her cheek.

Now Luke and Steven rushes over as they look confused at the sight until Luke perks up and nudges Steven that they should leave Jonah alone.

Just when she was going to be forgiving for lying like that, Jacee found herself lifted up like last time. This clicked a few gears. Space started to follow behind Alfred until he saw Jacee make that heartbroken look again. He stopped and pulled Clyde back and waited for her reaction.

For Jacee, everything came flooding back. That so called nightmare was not just a scary dream that was stuck in her head. It was all real. “He’s dead.”

She could feel her eyes tearing up again as her thoughts wavered to the last thing her said to her. She didn’t want it. It only took her a moment to start thrashing around and hitting him as hard as she could in an attempt to get Alfred to release her.

“LET ME GO! LET ME GO! LET ME GO!!!”

Alfred stopped halfway as he hears Jacee speak then she started shouting. He winces at the sound of her shouts and he moves to shush her gently. He shifts to press her up to his chest and hold her close. She can’t get out of his grip anyways, he maybe weaken from this situation 

“Jacee-- No- I can’t let you go! You can’t go running off!”

With Jacee shouting in the middle of the night, this woken up Jonah’s friends but what’s worse is that Jonah knows who’s voice it is. He moves to start taking down the boards and bursts out of the gas station and he looks over at the where someone is struggling.

“JACEE!”

Jonah shouted her name as he rushes over, moving to try to get Alfred to let go of his girlfriend. “Hey! Let go of her!!”

As she listened to his explanation, Jacee started frowning with a look that was very much unsatisfied with this. Huffing a bit, she narrowed her eyes a bit at him. She knew Will enough to know he wouldn’t leave her.

“Will’s a chicken, but he wouldn’t take off like that without me. Especially with how peaceful the road’s been this whole time. Come on, spit out the truth. I’m not a kid, so I can take it.”

Best friends like these two never ditched each other no matter the situation. She assumed that Alfred understood that, so why would he lie about Will?

Alfred hand gestures at her like dude I told you the thing. Shit, he don’t know anything about these two to fabricate an actual lie. He just moves to sigh, moving his hand as he raises them up in a surrender action.

“Okay, you caught me. I lied horribly.”

Alfred keeps his eyes looking straight at her as he walks over and lifts her up without a word and moves to get into the trailer. He knows that the other two will follow where Jacee went after all.

“He’s just taking a piss somewhere. He’ll be back when I start up the vehicle.”

He’s still lying, cause even he don’t want to tell the truth just yet.

Space paused in the middle of the song and hopped back down. He was a little huffy that he couldn’t get to his favorite part of the song, but no matter.

Jacee however, dashed over to Alfred looking just a bit worried. “Leaving? But we can’t go without Will. Where’d he take off to? He wasn’t inside..” She held Clyde just a bit closer out of nervousness. She really hoped that was just a nightmare. It better have been.

Standing to the side, Space stared at her in confusion. He didn’t understand what she was talking about when they lost him just the other day.

Alfred gives Space an apologetic look when the other landed on the ground. Alfred paused as he looks over at Jacee. He has seen people mourn over the loss of many people and many of them ignored everything and stayed in the denial stage.

Alfred gives a shaky smile as he poses trying to mask his nervousness. He lied about this plenty of times, but it still hurts.”Yeah he isn’t inside but we’re going to save Will. He’s stuck else where, remember? I had to tell him to drive off and I think he’s stranded somewhere on this road. We got to go get him. He’s alone in the car, we can’t waste time waiting here. Come on Jacee, I needed to refill the tank. I even got extra gas so you can drive with him on the road next to the trailer.”

He hopes his lie ran smoothly since his voice didn’t waver at all. It’s almost as if he’s used to saying these words often. Alfred looks over at Space with his eyes narrowed like you better not tell her that Will is dead.

“Oh can’t you see

Jacee really liked listening to Space, even though sometimes his words give her the chills. But that smoothie was still stuck in her head. She really hoped that the machine still worked. Maybe she’ll serve a small cup for Will too. Probably the blue one. Sounded good, so she took to the station and tried to see how to get in. She hummed quietly in thought. Looked like someone blocked off the doors. What a bummer. She huffed a bit before petting the sleeping child in her arms. “Sorry Clyde, no smoothie today.”

With that, she turned back towards the trailer and started to head back.

Alfred sighs as he smiles lightly and motions his hands to Space.

“Alright, singing man. We’re about to head off. Hey, we’re heading out!” Alfred looks over to Jacee and waves her on over. He opens the trailer door again as he looks at his company. Somehow, Alfred wishes he had saved Will. He misses the laughter.

Jonah peeks through the boards then blinks upon seeing someone that looks like Jacee. He looks over at the messy over the shoulder cardigan and he gently moves to touch the boards. He wanted to go out to see if it was her but... he couldn’t risk it. So he took a step back and moves to look around the place instead.

While Space proceeded with the song, Jacee awoke feeling just as bad as when she went to sleep. She was also terribly confused. She sat up and picked up Clyde, who whined softly before setting back to sleep, and she looked about the trailer. Looks like it was empty. Didn’t feel like there was a point in staying, so she took off out of the trailer. She could go for a nice smoothie right now to cool down from that awful nightmare she had.

Space noticed her go off, but did nothing as long as she didn’t take off too far.

Alfred stops once in a while to nervously look at Space but he kept on working as he cleans up the trailer and does maintenance that he didn’t even notice Jacee had left. He just sits here listening to Space’s singing under the moonlight.

Jonah couldn’t sleep, but he motions to Luke that he’ll take watch instead. He smiles softly as he leans back to look around the station. He stood up and moves to leave the office and walks into the store. He felt nervous and wanted to do a check up of the area.

A grin returned to his face with that last comment. “Very well.” He hummed lightly and looked to Jacee as the other left. Looks like it was still going to be awhile before she was going to get up. As much as watching over her was a good idea, Space didn’t like being cooped up in such a small place for so long. So what’s a little stroll? Not like he was going to stop watching them regardless.

With that, he popped out of the trailer as well and stretched a bit. Boy, did it feel nice to be out again. He decided another singing session would be nice, so he hopped up on top of the trailer and started singing once again.

Alfred had started to get the gas, thankfully he got a tank as well so he can store that so they can use it later. He wanted to be practical and they all need to go to a place with water so they can bathe. Alfred pauses as he hears Space singing, this time, the way the other is singing it left a very startling imprint on him.

Alfred feels a bit terrified of Space.

Jonah blinks as he and his friends hear someone singing in the distance, he hesitated but they didn’t move. They decided to just sleep it away. Last time they met up with someone, the family tried to eat them.

“Is that so?”

Space wasn’t one to care much for compliments unless it came from Jacee. Otherwise he wasn’t very caring.

He stood there in silence for a moment as he went back to examining the area. He could have sworn he felt something close by. another presence. Hm hm hm. Regardless of who or what it was, he wanted to avoid it. Space didn’t want anything more to go on here. Not yet, at least.

“How heartless of you.” Alfred teases lightly humming as he stops then moves to get up.

“Alright so I’ll be out getting gas. If anything bad happens, keep Jacee and Clyde safe and leave me behind if needed.” With that said, Alfred hopped out of the trailer and starts getting gas or at least attempts to.

It seems like Jonah and his friends decides to stay indoors and not bother with Alfred and whatever he is doing. The group is so tired of fighting so they just hole up in the gas station.

Space’s hum quieted a bit when Alfred entered, but didn’t quite stop. He simply watched Alfred shuffling around before starting the trailer, then eventually stopped humming to answer his question.

“No. I’ve always been able to sing.”

He decided it was best that he didn’t examine the area like he had been this whole time. It would be bad if he had another meltdown when they came across more trouble. He couldn’t let Jacee go through anything more than she already has. Human minds can only handle so much.

“Oh. Sorry if stopped you in singing. Hmm, I really like your singing.”

He hums softly, at least they won’t get in too much trouble hopefully. Alfred really hopes nothing  bad will happen. He also wished that he had gotten more gas and packed up some since it looks like this trailer takes up so much gas. Gosh darn it. Time to start moving to a nearest gas station.

Jonah blinks as he hushes Luke and Steven, he peeks over the boarded windows. “.... I think there are actual survivors, guys.”

Space didn’t really care how much Alfred knew. It was obvious since he already gave a lot of information to him as it was. But his singing, he wanted that to either be reserved to Jacee, or used to scare people. Otherwise he never sang.

“Cause i don’t remember anymore

I just know that she warms my heart

And knows what all my imperfections are

She said I was the brightest little firefly in her jar"

After that line, he proceeded through the rest of the song in hums since Clyde was already sleeping and he didn’t really want to stop his voice. He just wished Jacee was up and actually listening to him. What a pity.

Alfred slowly moves to enter into the trailer as he chuckles softly. After setting up as quickly as he can, he starts driving them off. The American leans against the car seat, heading off elsewhere in hopes of the zombies not coming back soon.

“You sing well. Self taught?”

Alfred wonders if he should start the conversation while they head off to another town. This time to a bit father one away, unknown to Alfred, they’d probably end up meeting with another group of survivors.

Space made a small sound to that. “Not really. I don’t recharge. Only humans, angels, and demons do that.” He ended up pulling himself back up and moving to plop down next the the duo on the bed. It was until Alfred was already out of the trailer that he started singing.

It was almost like his voice echoed through the trailer and drifted.

“If you find yourself here,

In my side of town.

I prayed that you come to my door

And talk to me like you don’t know what we ever fought about"

If Space didn’t want Alfred to hear his voice, it’s kind of hard not to hear it. The melody waft through the empty lot as Alfred pauses to smile at the sound. Space told him that he don’t recharge but others do it. So Angels and Demons huh? It took Alfred a while as he picked up some more blankets to realize.

Clyde is a demon.

Alfred stood there holding the items in his hands stopping halfway to the trailer as he sighs heavily. Great, supernatural creatures. At least he hopes he can survive from them. The start of all of this, he set free his unicorn and Tony the alien ran off somewhere.

But Alfred don’t care, he stood here listening to Space’s song.

As soon as Clyde was set beside Jacee, he quickly cuddled up next to her. He really wanted her to sing him a lullaby to put him to sleep, but with her sleeping, it was a tad difficult to get that.

Waving off the earlier event, he flopped down on a chair with a sigh. “I only needed to go home. These human bodies are too small.”

Space glanced over at the Jacee and Clyde and noticed Clyde staring at him. The kid usually did that when Jacee asked him to sing, so he knew the drill. He huffed again with that, but fell in for it since he did like singing. “Fine fine.” He huffed at the child once again.

“Ah, so you recharge--” Alfred noted at that as he looks over at Space and Clyde. He looks over at them then moves to do his own thing. It... felt off. Like something tipped and Alfred hopes that Jacee is going to be okay.

Nothing is going to be okay anymore.

He hums lightly as he laughs softly. He managed to get the car starting, no need for tools but he still moves to the other trailers to start raiding the area but still close by enough.

Space let out a little huff in response to the question. He was starting to try prying Clyde off of him in slight annoyance. Eventually he just put him on the floor where Clyde simply moved to Alfred and clung to his leg. It was the closest he was getting to his mom for now.

Clyde looked up at Alfred and whined softly. He tugged on his pants as he implied that he really wanted that second choice.

Alfred chuckles hearing Space huff, it’s like two kids. Except one is a large tall kid that can probably destroy him and the other is... a duck kid with horns. Totally normal, he assure himself. Alfred chuckles as he moves to lift up Clyde gently and sets him next to Jacee.

“Watch over her, there little buddy. Now, I’m going to jump start this trailer. Are you alright Space? You looked really run down earlier.” Alfred spoke, looking around for tools and probably something of a key to see if he can start the trailer first.

When Clyde is called to look st the cars, he looks at Alfred for a moment before staring at Jacee with hope that she would sit up again, ready for a game. Nothing happened. So he looked back at Alfred, then to all the vehicles and examined them for a few moments before pointing at the flashiest one in the bunch. Boy, did he really take after Jacee.

Space was ready to put Clyde down already as he was growing to be an annoyance to him. He would carry Jacee no problem, but others were very rare.

Alfred nods at that, he glances at Space as he trots over to the flashy trailer. Ah, it’s not that bad. Alfred guess as he opens it and oh boy, thank heavens no one was in it. He looks around then looks over at Space and Clyde.

“Uh, you okay there Space? You look a bit peeved there, buddy. And Clyde, did you eat yet? I got like some chips you can munch on or nap with Jacee.” He went to get the bed out so he can put Jacee down so she can rest up properly. This is really one nice trailer.

Jacee didn’t really care about about anything anymore. She just felt numbingly sad. She just accepted everything as it was, as well as the hug and Alfred carrying her. The only thing she was scared of now was losing Clyde, but Space had him, so she didn’t put much thought to it. She decided it was about time for some rest, so she closed her eyes and it took only a few moments for her to be out. It was going to be a long while before she would awaken again.

Space could only give a confused and somewhat worried look at Jacee. and Alfred didn’t seem to be taking the situation very well either. For him, maybe it was that whole being America thing, but he couldn’t be too sure on it.

Once Jacee is asleep, he can feel her even breathing that he looks over at Space and Clyde. He was sure that they both don’t know the situation. Clyde, Alfred looks at Clyde with such sad eyes knowing that the little one don’t even know the situation. Shit, he should just hurry this up before something bad even happens again.

“Well, uh... So Clyde right? Do you like any of these big cars?” Might as well try to make the mood light right?

Down in the pits of Hell, Lucy drifted from his thoughts and thought of William. He could have sworn he heard him apologize. For what? Who knew. Maybe he’ll visit later. Just to ask.

Jacee couldn’t take having to watch as she’s taken from someone so important to her to be left for dead. It hurt too much. This was too much heartbreak in so little time. It was when the explosion went off that she felt every part of her fall apart. At this point her expression was blank and she stood staring for awhile before whispering quietly. “Goin’ out with a bang..”

Space wasn’t sure with how he felt on the situation. He didn’t understand why Jacee was acting like that over one person. It stumped him. He didn’t get it.

Clyde didn’t understand the seriousness of the situation either. All he knew was that Jacee was acting really scary and he felt pretty safe with Space, so he clung on. At least, only for now.

Alfred stops as he moves to set Jacee down and he gently pulls her into a hug. He knows what to do in this situation but he is sure that Jacee don’t want mindless comfort from someone that she met over a flirting contest. Alfred shifts to carry her in his arms like she’s a child. He’s only 4 inches taller than her, so it’s no that bad.

He looks over at Space and Clyde, giving a shaky smile he keeps walking heading to the trailer park. It’s best if they get out of this town as fast as they can. Alfred held his tongue back, he didn’t want to say something wrong and have her break down even more. She seems like she’s already much more dead than the zombies. Alfred frowns as he looks around for a good trailer... that isn’t dead looking.
