Back when we were dating, my ex girlfriend started to get distant. After Thanksgiving, she came back for one day, and on November 29th I found out that she moved to her mom's. After she told me this, she wouldn't respond to any of my texts. I heard from a friend that she was also close to that she tried to kill herself. When i heard it from her, it hurt so much more. Ever since, I've been really depressed. I thought it got better around the 1st of the year, but it just came back. I blame myself.
I’m really, genuinely, sorry to hear this.
First of all, It’s entirely, completely, natural for you to blame yourself, but try to convince yourself otherwise--I know it isn’t as easy as a random stranger on the internet telling you this haha, but I believe that you are 100% capable of doing so. It’s not your fault at all, I can promise you that even without knowing the details of the story--you were doing something that was good for you, and that doesn’t make you a bad person in any way.Â
Also, try to vent to friends/family about this. It may seem like a minuscule, irrelevant, thing to do, but I can assure you, it’s so so so helpful. Venting to people in real life is extremely relieving and may make you feel slightly better. Therapy would also be an excellent option, however clichĂ© it sounds, considering that’s another tool that involves you talking to someone who genuinely does care in a safe environment. Therapy could give you some solid ways as to how to overcome this issue, so you should definitely consider that. :)Â
Another interesting thing that I noticed is fairly helpful is listing twenty or so good things about yourself so that you don’t entertain the “bad” thoughts about yourself. It may not be the easiest thing to do right now in your situation, but you’re strong enough and/or you could get a friend or family member to encourage you to do so.Â
That being said, I don’t know the minuscule details of the situation, so ultimately you do what you think is right regarding contacting her. It wouldn’t be a bad idea for you to offer her words of encouragement and things like that, but if you feel as though doing so wouldn’t be good, you don’t need to feel pressured to, as she seems to have a support system.
I said it before but I’ll say it again, I can promise you, this isn’t your fault, and you don’t need to blame yourself of it in any way. :)Â
Feel free to dm me if you want to talk more about this or send me an ask if you want to stay anonymous. :)Â
