Dude, you'll never feel more alone that when you're with "friends" and don't fit in.
There's a whole ass genre of TV shows with the premise "tightly wound stuck up woman ends up living with hippy free spirited woman and they become close friends" in different age brackets and it's amazing that in none of them the women are going to end up dating
Omg THIS!!!!!!
@warningsine since our brainstorming session on the lcdlf and mshd crossover I’ve been thinking we kinda cover the Ana and Mariana giving Paulina a job on the company, but what if instead they invest in the cabaret? (Obviously here the cabaret is Paulina’s only and she kept it afloat ‘cause she couldn’t keep the flower shop. Bear with me pls.)
You know, make it more exclusive and elite. idk.
“but what if instead they invest in the cabaret?“
DGSFADGSFADSAGDGSAdhgfhsdfhgssdfgASGDASFGDAS!!!
Ok. I’m fine. I’m cool. I’m fine. (Sorry, but what reaction were you expecting?)
Elaborate on this. I’m open to the idea, but I need you to sell it to me–mostly how Ana would roll with that.
One thing we can both agree on in this scenario:
de la Mora women 🤝 Ana Servin –> “Julian is a dumbass.”
(The image of Ana around the drag queens short circuits my brain ngl. That being said, I want to see her in a gayer environment and the cabaret would definitely help with that. So would being around the de la Mora siblings in general.)
I’m assuming we’re keeping the “Ceci and Bruno are dating” and “Maria Jose is Ana and Mariana’s lawyer” arcs, right? Does Maria Jose know that Ana and Mariana are ~fake dating?
1) We’re keeping the arcs
2) Majo does know they’re fake dating. AND she wants to help make it real. She helps with the divorce despite the fake dating being against everything she believes because:
She sees how Ana looks at Mariana. And there’s nothing fake there.
There’s nothing worse than a cheating man who has the nerve to play the victim.
That being said, since Ana and Paulina meet under awkward circumstances, in that -get-to-know-Bruno’s-parents- dinner, Paulina tells them she runs a cabaret when Ana ask what she does for a living. This, obviously, shocks her because “how does my lawyer married this kind of woman” and “why do they have it? They certainly don’t look like that kind of people.”
Paulina, hearing (and seeing) the judgement of Ana decides to not tell them the name of her cabaret, ‘cause God forbid she goes there and disturbes one of the only places she feels at ease and light [enough with having to deal with the judgment of the outside world about who her wife is and their marriage.]
After that and a fight with Mariana (or Ceci idk) [more fight in the middle because Ana isn’t Ana if she doesn’t fight with someone] Ana drives around ending up in a random bar in a random neighborhood, (because it reminded her of the bar she went that time to Elena’s gig) only to find out that it was actually a cabaret and that it was Paulina’s. (This could be by seeing Paulina from afar or if Ana is kinda drunk and end up talking with one of the performers)
She ended up watching the show and having a good time which prompt her to ask Maria José details about her wife’s business (‘cause to proud to do it herself).
I could keep going with this.
Damn you. I hate (read: love you), ‘cause now I can’t stop thinking of:
Ana and Mariana chilling/having some drinks at the cabaret on a Friday/Saturday night after work. (Regi and Vale are with their respective fathers and obviously this takes place after the charade is over.)
Ana getting drunk one night, getting up and singing off-key* a la 1x08. (Suffice it to say, this time there are no cancer scares or husbands on the horizon or “I kissed you because you drugged me” excuses. They’re officially together–during their infatuated era/period, in fact.) When Paulina notices, she tries to stop her, because “What is this idiot doing? She’ll drive all of our customers away.” Maria Jose, a little tipsy and very amused herself, puts a hand on Paulina’s arm (or thigh, your choice) and is, like, “No, Pau. Come on. Let her have this/enjoy it.” (Or maybe Ana could do it after the customers have left.) The next morning, they’re all hungover and Ana feels embarrassed when she remembers what happened. Mariana gives her some paracetamol and a glass of water and teases her about the previous night.
Ceci (and maybe Ro) at the cabaret. Just the image alone takes me out. Take #1: You know who helps them find the perfect place when she and Bruno wanna have sex for the first time? Nope, it’s not Mariana and Elena. It’s one of the drag queens, who’s fond of them. Ana doesn’t manage to ruin anything this time, ‘cause she doesn’t learn about it. Take #2: We keep the Elena & Mariana help Ceci canonical part as it is, but this time Ana and Pau join their forces and ruin their kids’ date, whereas Mariana and Maria Jose try to stop them. (MJ at Paulina: “Relax. Don’t you remember how we were at their age?”) And who knows? Maybe after that night, Ana and Pau start getting along/closer, because they do have common ground after all. (Of course, they could also bond over feminist stuff. Or LGBT stuff. Or professional stuff.)
Romelia finding out about the cabaret–especially if Ana invests in it. The comedic potential of it all. Also Juan Carlos’s reaction. Lucia would be the only one totally vibing again, lol.
What you said about Paulina + the flower shop regarding gay events. They could actually have ~special nights or whatever at the cabaret. Even Elena and her girlfriend could find themselves there.
*I’m trying to think of what song would be ideal for such a scene though. Something that Ana liked as a teen (we know she was into Emmanuel and Mijares), but that could also be performed at the cabaret (we’ve seen the drag queens perform as Yuri, Julieta Venegas, Gloria Trevi, Paulina Rubio among others).
So Something by Luis Miguel maybe? Or José José? Or José Luis Rodríguez? Or Julio Iglesias? I mean, Emmanuel’s “Es mi mujer” would be good, 'cause she’d sing it while thinking of/looking at Mariana, but, for example, Ana Gabriel’s “Ay amor” could also work.
–
Holy fuck though. A mshd/lcdlf crossover would be so–full of wins all around.
All our favorite idiots getting to interact with each other.
Ana making two new good friends: Maria Jose and Paulina. Well, I think that Pau and Ana wouldn’t get along well at first (because of their personalities and the circumstances of their first few interactions), but they’d eventually warm up to each other.
Maria Jose having this new huge extended family. Her parents were never mentioned. Are they dead? Are they like Diego’s parents? And what about Puri? Whatever happened to her? Did Virginia’s ghost actually murder her? Is she at a psychiatric hospital? The sequel didn’t mention her at all.
The kids themselves having so many people to care about them. Talk about unconventional families, hee.
“This, obviously, shocks her because “how does my lawyer married this kind of woman“
🤣 This judgmental stuck up asshole.
I mean, when LCFLF begins, you pretty much think the same thing about Paulina [that she’s a classist snob], but as it turns out, she’s one of the most open-minded people on her own show and treats everyone the same [businessmen, drag queens, prisoners]., whereas Ana…Thank fuck for Mariana and her influence honestly.
“AND she wants to help make it real. “
:DDDD
So Maria Jose is a hopeless romantic, huh?
I swear I’m still not over her “Tuve un cambio de sexo, no de corazón” line. Swoonworthy moment. (I plan on giffing the scene soon.)
“Paulina, hearing (and seeing) the judgement of Ana decides to not tell them the name of her cabaret, ‘cause God forbid she goes there and disturbes one of the only places she feels at ease and light“
Understandable.
“[enough with having to deal with the judgment of the outside world about who her wife is and their marriage.]“
Also understandable. (Although I doubt that Ana would ever judge Pau about that or make a transphobic comment. She’s a snob, not a bigot.)
Unlike LCDLF that focused a lot on both homophobia and transphobia, MSHD tends to sugarcoat and kind of ignores the outside world. I sincerely doubt that Ana and Mariana won’t have to face what Pau and MJ did. The gossip, the discrimination etc. They don’t live in a bubble.
Maria Jose is privileged/rich and educated and yet.
Not to mention that Mariana is significantly younger than Ana, so people will judge her about this too. Let’s hope that season 3 actually explores this.
“more fight in the middle because Ana isn’t Ana if she doesn’t fight with someone“
🤣🤣🤣
“Ana drives around ending up in a random bar in a random neighborhood, (because it reminded her of the bar she went that time to Elena’s gig) only to find out that it was actually a cabaret and that it was Paulina’s“
Oh, I love this actually!
“I could keep going with this.”
Please do! I’m ready to grab the popcorn, hee.
How do you think that Ana could help make the cabaret more prestigious?
Points 1 to 5: Fanfic material. Exactly what I thought but couldn’t express. Bless your mind.
About the song, what about Bella by Mijares? Seems pretty cabaret-y and more Ana style (I think? )
“I swear I’m still not over her “Tuve un cambio de sexo, no de corazón” line. Swoonworthy moment.”
AND THAT KISS??? ON MY KNEES. So yes, Majo will this “if I could get back with Pau, which I thought was an impossible dream, I damn sure can help this two idiots.”
“I doubt Ana would ever judge Pau about that or make a transphobic comment.”
Of course she wouldn’t, after all, she did hired a trans woman to defend her. Her judgement comes more about the place, like when Elena and Julian found out about the cabaret and the first thought of Elena was “this whorehouse paid for my masters.” So Paulina doesn’t want that kind of comments there among the girls that are (like) family to her.
“Ana making to new good friends.”
And not only that, friends that keep her on her toes, that are actually lesbians so they understand what she’ll be facing from now on AND friends that are her age. Good know she needs them.
“Maria José having this new huge extended family.”
I always assumed that her parents just treated her like Diego’s but it wasn’t worth exploring because we already have the struggle with Diego. About Puri, I will assume she’s in a mental institution with no communication with the world. Makes some sense because she did tried to kill Paulina. ON HER OWN WEDDING.
So it makes my heart warm to know she has a great support system with her.
“How do you think that Ana could help make the cabaret more prestigious?”
I actually didn’t thought this trough lol. But I guess changing the outside first, then some stuff from the inside to make it look more fancy, get better suits for the performers and contrary to everything, the publicity have to be from mouth to mouth. I always thought that that kind of underground marketing is what make a place more idk, exclusive? Attractive?
“About the song, what about Bella by Mijares?“
Well, I don’t see why not. ;)
“AND THAT KISS??? ON MY KNEES.“
Right?
I mean, it was love at first sight with Maria Jose for me [aka the airport scene], but her “But, damn it, it’s me. Why didn’t you tell me? We might be divorced, but you’re still important to me” convo with Paulina? Really tender and all around perfect scene.
Although they should have given us an open-mouthed kiss at some point. (At least, for Ana and Mariana, there’s still hope, heh.) Especially in season 3 when they were both desperate, horny and jealous af.
Even the elevator scene where they’re both out of their minds (making out in public and Pau not giving a shit about Alejo–not really) was pretty tame.
Part of me thinks that had they actually hired a trans actress to portray MJ, we would have had a better MJ/Pau love scene. It’s not like Caro shied away from nudity and sex on the show, e.g., Julian and Diego’s kisses were pretty passionate.
Dunno. Maybe I’m entirely off-base and that was just the writers’/directors’ idea of being respectful or whatever.
“Her judgement comes more about the place”
Yeah. Agreed.
“like when Elena and Julian found out about the cabaret and the first thought of Elena was “this whorehouse paid for my masters”
Oh, man.
Elena was such an insufferable privileged princess in early season 1. I was glad when Paulina and the show itself took the wind out of her sails.
(Although I’ve got to say that I did miss Dominique. All of her other boyfriends were so boring to me.)
And Julian–of all people!-condemning their father and Paulina. Like, you useless little shit, shut the fuck up!
“And not only that, friends that keep her on her toes, that are actually lesbians so they understand what she’ll be facing from now“
Exactly my point. (I mean, Paulina is bi, but same difference. “Women who love women” as Tumblr puts it.)
“I always assumed that her parents just treated her like Diego’s“
Yeah, same. :/
“About Puri, I will assume she’s in a mental institution with no communication with the world.“
Sigh.
Such wasted potential there. They could have used Puri to say something poignant about mental illness and people biases/prejudice about it, but they straight up turned her into a cliched telenovela villain–which I found yawn inducing ngl. (Something similar could be said about Victoria tbh.)
“So it makes my heart warm to know she has a great support system with her.“
<3
"I mean, it was love at first sight with Maria Jose for me [aka the airport scene], but her “But, damn it, it’s me. Why didn’t you tell me? We might be divorced, but you’re still important to me” convo with Paulina? Really tender and all around perfect scene."
You know, I've never thought of it that way. Now their love has a new meaning for me 😍 I've never thought that for Paulina it really WAS love at first sight because she had never seen MJ before. Now in my head I will have the nagging thought that maybe Paulina was like "Oh my God. She's beautiful" and then "Why am I thinking this... I'm supposed to hate her. Focus, Paulina. Your dad is in jail."
In my mind it was more like a first-love-she's-the-mother-of-my-son (you know, those memories) kinda shit. BUT, I won't bore you with this.
"Part of me thinks that had they actually hired a trans actress to portray MJ, we would have had a better MJ/Pau love scene."
Agreed on the trans actress. I think the reason we didn't get to have better love scenes was because they actually weren't the main part of the story but became it. (*cof cof* Ana and Mariana *cof cof* I really hope we get to see actual love scenes here) And by that point, Manolo was knee deep into showing all kinds of problems and things the LGBTQ+ community has gone and go through, particularly gay men with Diego and the conversion camp and even with Pato's death.
I also think that we didn't get to see much or at all about the trans community. MJ character portrayed by Paco or even if they did hired a trans actress would have so much potential on the story. Like we could have seen part of her transition and struggle, even in flashbacks, with the arc of Puri.
Like I said, a lot to explore. Not enough seasons.
"And Julian--of all people!- condemning their father and Paulina. Like, you useless little shit, shut the fuck up!"
The double standard!!!! THE NERVE!

I love the fact (and progression) that every painting show that Paulina was next in line to become the matriarch.
Ok. So. Here's how I can still win: instead of Laura Villa, Ana hires Maria Jose as her (and Mariana's) attorney.
[Paulina and Maria Jose have been (re)married for about a year when this happens.]
Instead of Dario and Rosita, Ceci and Bruno end up dating each other. Telenovela/teen drama ensues, the 4 ladies/mothers (well, mostly Ana and Paulina lbr) lose it and that's how all of them get to know each other/interact.
I want this kind of friendship. Where do I find it? 😂

I could keep going with this.
You’ve got a cute little face and very nice details.
@willyoueventry, it’s a (telenovela?) series that, unfortunately, got canceled.
Its premise:
Cecilia Suarez’s character is married to a dude and has a child with him. At some point, she falls in love with a woman. When her husband finds out, his male ego gets hurt and wants to start a custody battle/take the child from her. (Rings a bell?) That’s why he hires a lawyer, who’s portrayed by Ludwika Paleta.
In the above scene, Paleta’s character tries to use her charm/beauty to her advantage. (Because just like every lesbophobic straight woman out there, she believes that every single bi/gay woman must be into her.) Suffice it to say, it doesn’t go well.
As you can tell, I’m trying to find a plausible AU scenario where past!Ana has such an interaction with a woman portrayed by Suarez (not necessarily with Paulina–although how funny would such a coincidence be?), but I can’t think of one.
Maybe such a thing happens when she’s younger? While she’s still trying to climb the corporate ladder? For example, she can tell that her superior [or whoever Suarez’s character is supposed to be in that scenario] is into women and tells herself, “Well, where’s the harm in this? It’s just flirting, it’s not like I’m going to cheat on Juan Carlos. Besides, I’m not into women. It doesn’t mean anything.”
The truth is that it does mean something. Ana truly admires Suarez’s character’s spark–who, by the way, is a little older. And deep down? She likes her, but doesn’t want to admit it to herself. Of course, it doesn’t go anywhere. Not then at least, because shitty tactics and timing.
To make things worse/more complicated, this woman reenters Ana’s life in s3 and shakes things up, lol. So we get the Alejo/Pau/Maria Jose/Kim jealousy quartet, but, you know, with this woman/Ana/Mariana/Ferran.
Fair’s fair. If Ana is jealous of Ferran, then Mariana needs to be jealous of Ana’s new ~love interest. As a treat.
Omg. A new must watch on my list!!!
And about the scenario, I can picture Suarez as herself being Ana’s boss (not Lud) in a super fancy company. We could even have a Cecilia that’s naturally flirty but with that authoritarian and powerful aura that comes with being a woman in a man’s world with a job in a high position, traits that draw Ana to her orbit first as admiration and then as a “shit, this can’t happen to me” sort of way.
‘Cause there is NO WAY that a moment like that hasn’t happened in Ana’s life for her to be so in denial about her attraction to Mariana.
This woman [Suarez] appearing in S3 will or can confirm some doubts and questions Ana could have in regards of if this thing she has for Mariana is new or if she felt it before (speaking from personal experience here lol). And it’ll definitely cause jealousy on Mariana because, even when she was with Ferrán to get over Ana, the mere thought of her [Ana] being with someone else and more so if it’s a woman it’s painful to watch.
“Omg. A new must watch on my list!!!”
Unfortunately, it’s just a single episode with many cliffhangers, but happy watching anyway?
Oh, and let me correct myself, ‘cause I accidentally swapped the actresses’ names. Clearly, I need to rewatch it and refresh my memory, lol. Marina De Tavira’s (see “Roma”) character (Claudia) is the one that is in a supposedly perfect marriage. The truth is, she’s got trouble with her kids, her marriage is not going well, and she’s got a cancer scare (rings a bell?).
Olivia (Cecilia Suarez’s character) is Claudia’s supportive old friend (and more open to a lesbian romance), whom Claudia ends up kissing.
Claudia’s husband finds a photo where his wife kisses her friend and that’s when shit hits the fan.
Paleta’s character is the antagonist/villain of the show. She’s truly vile and will do anything to get ahead.
Honestly? Wishful thinking ahoy: Manolo Caro needs to create another Netflix series where these two end up dating each other. Suarez has already portrayed various queer women successfully (the one in “Capadocia,” Paulina de la Mora the bicon, the one in this series etc.), so why not one more? Besides, Paleta needs to catch up. :P
“Cecilia that’s naturally flirty but with that authoritarian and powerful aura”
Yes to this–to her character being brave enough to be open with her sexuality (if Ferran can do it, why not Cecilia’s character, right?), but definitely not with her subordinates, because–talk about being unprofessional and creepy.
So when Ana dares to make a subtle compliment/pass at her (maybe one night after work while they’re celebrating something job-related?), she takes it the wrong way and assumes that Ana is a straight woman trying to use her to get ahead. (Or something along these lines.)
Which is something that would make things awkward at work and Ana look for another job.
It’s not until years later that Valeria (yes, I’m naming Suarez’s hypothetical/headcanon character, lol) realizes that she was wrong. After her own bitter divorce [with a woman] is final, she grabs a new professional opportunity and ends up working with Ana again. She (remembers Ana and) is nothing but professional of course, but also surprised to see Ana openly enamored with a woman now (the whole fake dating thingy).
Ana, on the other hand, is kind of shocked. Although she tries to be her normal/professional self around her, sometimes she doesn’t quite succeed, because of all those uncomfortable/old memories/bad blood. When Mariana confronts her (because wow, what’s up with you acting all weird around her? I’ve never seen you like this), Ana ends up discussing it with her. Well, maybe she doesn’t tell her the whole truth/partially lies. And that’s how Mariana starts getting suspicious/jealous.
Maybe, at some point, while the fake dating is not going well, Ana and Mariana have a fight (what else is new, right?). Maybe because of Ferran, maybe because of something else.
Suffice it to say, people at work start noticing Ana’s bad mood/temperament.
So one evening/night (Ana is working late, because she doesn’t want to go home and be alone with Mariana) Valeria comes to give her something [a folder/some documents], notices Ana’s expressions and is, like, “Everything ok?”
At first, Ana tries to brush her concern off and stick to her work, but she can’t concentrate at all. She’s vulnerable/angry and having second thoughts about the charade, so she ends up getting some drinks with Valeria. Let’s not forget that (except for Mariana) Ana doesn’t have any real friends to talk to. Obviously, she can’t tell her the truth about Mariana, so she has to invent a bullshit “trouble in paradise” reason. It gets Valeria’s attention, because bitter divorce. They’re both tipsy and when Valeria confronts Ana (‘cause she’s noticed her behavior)/brings up that past moment of theirs, she tells her that all that is in the past and they should put it behind them/not let it affect their current professional relationship. Ana agrees. Maybe they share an awkward little moment with sexual tension then, maybe not.
The thing is, after that night, and while Ana and Mariana are at odds, Valeria starts trying to hang with Ana, because she likes her. Now they’re equals (not boss/employee anymore), so she’s got no moral qualms about befriending and pursuing Ana.
And, yeah, Ana is in love with Mariana, but she’s also not entirely immune to Valeria’s charm either. Old one-sided crushes that aren’t actually one-sided anymore, heh. Especially since Mariana seems to still be in love with Ferran. “After our fake dating is over, she’ll go back to him.”
Anyhow. That’s how we get the jealous quartet. Maybe there’s a Valeria/Ana kiss that reverses their roles this time. Valeria is the one that makes the pass, but gets rejected. Ana is, like, “I’m sorry, but I can’t,” and Valeria is, like, “It’s ok. I understand. You love her.”
Or something like that.
“'Cause there is NO WAY that a moment like that hasn’t happened in Ana’s life for her to be so in denial about her attraction to Mariana.”
Right? The level of denial is amazing.
Had she been straight (but not homophobic, which she isn’t), she wouldn’t have reacted like this. “You kissed me” this and “you drugged me” that. Or “you said you’re in love with me, confused hippie” with that butthurt expression. She would have been, like, “I love you, Mariana, just not like that. Now that you lied to me, I can’t trust you anymore.” The end.
“So when Ana dares to make a subtle compliment/pass at her, she takes it the wrong way and assumes that Ana is a straight woman trying to use her to get ahead.”
She [Valeria] can take it the right way but, as you previously stated, given her position of power it would be creepy so she just ignores it.
Years later, after her bitter divorce, life gives her a second chance with Ana by putting them on the same professional path, finding a more mature; beautiful and openly in love with another woman Ana.
On the other hand, Ana could just play dumb around Valeria to avoid any awkwardness in the work place, but since Mariana learned how to read people (especially Ana) she quickly notices how weirdly Ana behaves with Valeria and starts to get jealous/suspicious.
“…while the fake dating is not going well.”
Better: while the fake dating is going so well that Ana realize actually how deeply in love she is with Mariana, she also starts so get insecure if Mariana’s feelings are reciprocal. She start to think that after all this ends, Mariana will run back to the arms of Ferrán and she’ll end up alone with her feelings.
So she starts to pick fights with Mariana to keep her at arms length, to have the excuse to spend more time away from home. Or just because sexual tension is eating her brain.
Everybody at the office, especially Valeria, notices her bad mood so one night she decided to shoot her shot and invite Ana for some drinks to wind up (or it could be as you put it, them working late) 'cause both could use a friend.
“She’s not entirely immune to Valeria’s charm”
Because she can’t help but think Mariana doesn’t love her like that anymore and another beautiful woman giving her attention does something to her ego. But in the end, after making a pass, Valeria gets rejected because feelings. This time tho, things don’t get weird like in the past, they’re both mature women after all so they end up being friends, and the naturally flirty nature of Valeria is what end up stirring Mariana’s jealousy.
“Had she been straight, she wouldn’t have reacted like this. ”
EXACTLY.
P/s: This is just potential lesbian drama at its finest.
I’m kinda falling in love with our (your) version of Ana’s hypothetical female love interest here, and I’m actually tempted to write something about them, hee.
As for the actual show, it’ll be really disappointing if it gets aggressively hetero in s3 (a la s2) and gives Ana another male ~love interest. Like, duh, I’m rooting for Ana/Mariana here, but if they decide to not make them a couple, I’d be happy to see Ana figure her sexuality out and date another woman at some point. (Basically what they did with with JR/Petra on JtV.)
“She [Valeria] can take it the right way but, as you previously stated, given her position of power it would be creepy so she just ignores it.”
Nice. Definitely better than what I suggested.
“On the other hand, Ana could just play dumb around Valeria to avoid any awkwardness in the work place”
This makes more sense and it’s more up Ana’s alley. She’s not a teen with a crush.
“but since Mariana learned how to read people (especially Ana)”
Since when?
Had she been an actually good student, she would have noticed Ana’s reactions whenever she mentioned him/that she wanted to try a serious relationship with him. :>
Maybe that will cause friction between them in s3–when Ana realizes she’s in love/wants her, but Mariana, afraid of being burned twice, either doesn’t read Ana right/notice or does notice, but convinces herself that she’s just projecting (a la 1x09/2x01).
After all, misunderstandings happen all the time on this show. [shrug] I could be wrong, 'cause the writers have a tendency to surprise me.
“Ana realize actually how deeply in love she is with Mariana”
Oh, yeah. That is a given.
Maybe I should have phrased things better (but writing on mobile while multitasking can make one sound incoherent, lol), because that’s exactly what I meant. That Ana knows at that point, but thinks that Mariana has moved on/is unsure where Mariana stands.
No matter how confident she is, I doubt that she won’t second-guess herself if Mariana keeps gushing about Ferran. Possibly, that’s what causes their fight–although Ana uses another bullshit excuse for obvious reasons.
Ana’s insecurities/keeping the truth/her feelings to herself constantly make(s) her pick fights with Mariana and gradually distance herself from her. Instead of, you know, confronting her, 'cause that would be too easy and quick.
“So she starts to pick fights with Mariana to keep her at arms length, to have the excuse to spend more time away from home. Or just because sexual tension is eating her brain.”
Yeah, this too.
“Everybody at the office, especially Valeria, notices her bad mood so one night she decided to shoot her shot and invite Ana for some drinks to wind up, 'cause both could use a friend.”
Also yes to this. I love it.
“Because she can’t help but think Mariana doesn’t love her like that anymore and another beautiful woman giving her attention does something to her ego.”
Yes to the ego thingy, because we’ve seen how Ferran’s flirting boosted it/flattered her.
Besides, when Ana is finally sure that she likes women like that, she’ll probably want to act upon her urges. Right?
After all, she’ll be very sexually frustrated/horny at that point. So why say no to something a little less (emotionally) complicated for a while? Valeria is beautiful and smart and there and closer to her age and not the mother of her children and not that important to her (anymore/yet) and seems attracted to her. (I doubt that Valeria would be looking for a serious relationship right after a divorce anyway.)
In the long run, this tactic/way of thinking won’t work, because, like you said, feelings, but eh. Something, something, distractions. Something, something, (cheap) drama.
Honestly, if it were more plausible, I’d have them sleep together and make it messier, but I don’t think that Ana would go that far.
“This time tho, things don’t get weird like in the past, they’re both mature women after all so they end up being friends”
Agreed.
Seriously, this woman needs an actual friend that isn’t Mariana.
They could even do the double dating thingy when they’re all happy with their new girlfriends. :P
Oh! Maybe Valeria and her ex-wife (somehow) reconcile? A la Paulina and Maria Jose?
–
Question: What does Valeria think of Mariana? Does she like her? Is she indifferent? Does she see what Ana sees in her?
“Had she been an actually good student, she would have noticed Ana’s reactions whenever she mentioned him/that she wanted to try a serious relationship with him. :>”
I actually buy that “I’m not gonna get in my head again, she’s just worried about me and is THAT good of a friend” bullshit. Ana hurt Mariana’s feelings and ego rejecting her so it’s understandable that she turn her head the other way when Ana send some signals.
“… I doubt that she won’t second guess herself if Mariana keep gushing about Ferrán.”
She will. But at some point she’ll have to woman up and do it (confront Mariana) anyway because I doubt Mariana will put herself in that vulnerable position again with Ana.
“When Ana is sure she likes women like that, she’ll probably want to act upon her urges. ”
Aa you put it, with a woman she doesn’t really care. Because with the one she does… *sips tea quietly*
With Valeria this scenario could play perfectly because, apart from the fact that they don’t really care about each other, it comes with that little plus of already knowing each other. You know what they say, a know evil is better than an unknown good.
And if it doesn’t work, Valeria and Ana could still be friends and since Vale is a more experimented lesbian she could introduce Ana to some other friends/potential dates and teach her a thing or two about how to treat a woman right ('cause let’s face it, Ana has ZERO gay game and it’s more used to handle men childish emotions).
But this is just for drama. Ana’s feelings run so deep that I can’t even picture her with another woman other than Mariana. So hopefully, endgame.
–
Answer: I guess Valeria would probable think Mariana is such a weird free spirit, kinda like “she reminds me of my ex wife. I hate her so much that I kinda like her. Maybe I should call her…”
Well, since someone brought this back…let’s see.
“Ana hurt Mariana’s feelings and ego rejecting her so it’s understandable that she turn her head the other way when Ana send some signals.”
I was mostly joking about Mariana being a bad student, but I agree with what you’re saying here. In fact, your point and my point not mutually exclusive. ;)
“But at some point she’ll have to woman up and do it (confront Mariana)“
Oh, she definitely will. Both in season 3 and this scenario. After all, it’s not up to her. :P
“since Vale is a more experimented lesbian she could introduce Ana to some other friends/potential dates and teach her a thing or two”
Yes, please.
Laura has the potential to be that friend for Ana on the show, but I doubt they’ll ever actually go there.
Like, I’m sure that Ana will gradually figure things out on her own, but it’d be refreshing to see her bond with another woman [that isn’t Mariana], who comes to love and tease/advise/guide her. Or even gossip about relationship stuff with her sometimes. :P
“Ana’s feelings run so deep that I can’t even picture her with another woman other than Mariana“
I mean, I can picture it and I wouldn’t mind if the writers introduced a new character and didn’t rush it/handled it well, but the way things are right now, Ana/Mariana is the only lesbian couple that makes sense narrative-wise, so.
I still think that Elena should be given a new girlfriend though. Speaking of her, have you seen what Oka Giner said? Elena is going blonde in season 3. Heh. Wonder why that is. Maybe because it’s established that Mariana is into blondes? :> (Jk. I’m pretty sure it’s because the actress dyed her hair for another role.)
Blonde!Elena, Ana with longer (than usual) hair, Mariana with shorter hair. Too many important changes. :P
“she reminds me of my ex wife. I hate her so much that I kinda like her. Maybe I should call her… “
Yes and double yes.
I think we went a little bit too far dear lol but here we go again …
“Elena is going blonde in season 3. Heh. Wonder why that is. Maybe because it’s established that Mariana is into blondes?”
First of all I did see this. And it would add SOOOO much drama if Mariana spill the tea with her about her fake dating and that move of Elena going blonde is to win Mariana back. Or it could just be a move on Elena’s part to get on Ana’s nerve. After all, Ana could be insecure in her “relationship” with Mariana after seeing how close she can be with [Elena] her ex.
“… It’d be refreshing to see her bond with another woman.”
Not gonna lie, I’m digging this.
Also, Laura being the friend you gossip about your relationship is a more plausible line to follow in the show. Imagine, they’re discussing about some random stuff about the divorce when Ana receive a text from Mariana (let’s say about getting a dog) and she goes “I mean I love her but this is too much. Who would have thought that being a lesbian is so hard. How am I supposed to say no to a beautiful face like that *shows her a picture of her girlfriend*”
"And it would add SOOOO much drama if Mariana spill the tea with her about her fake dating“
I really, really want to see this. Elena is the only person Mariana can talk to about this without everything going to hell (the plan, her friendship with Ana etc.). Because what’s the alternative? Mariana’s mother? Oh, boy. God help Ana in that case. Her grandma? I mean, Lucia is down with Ana/Mariana and she would definitely be supportive, but knowing her, she wouldn’t be able to keep the secret, lol.
“and that move of Elena going blonde is to win Mariana back. Or it could just be a move on Elena’s part to get on Ana’s nerve”
I hope it’s the latter. Mostly because I want Elena to move on and not mope forever. After all, it looked like she was over Mariana in season 2. It didn’t seem like she was in pain while joking that Mariana still had the hots for Ana. Unless she’s that good of an actress.
That being said, the concept of Elena antagonizing/irritating Ana on purpose? Hilarious.
“After all, Ana could be insecure in her “relationship” with Mariana after seeing how close she can be with [Elena] her ex.“
Hm. I used to want that to happen–before season 2 aired. Now? Unfortunately, it seems like that particular ship [Elena being used to make Ana jealous] has sailed, because Ferran basically took Elena’s place.
Oh, I’m still waiting to hear what Elena thinks of Ferran though. Surely, she must have a hot take. She made it clear where she stands about Ana, so what about Ferran and his relationship with Mariana? It’s like the writers remember that these two are supposed to be close friends whenever it suits them.
Which brings me to my previous point: if the writers make Mariana talk to Elena about her charade with Ana, they’ll be given the chance to talk about Ferran too.
"Unfortunately, it seems like that particular ship [Elena being used to make Ana jealous] has sailed, because Ferran basically took Elena’s place." "Elena antagonizing/irritating Ana on purpose."
Read me out. Ferrán did take the role of Mariana's love interest here but I was thinking Elena with this new look it has potential. Just imagine being Ana and seeing that the ex girlfriend of your (fake) girlfriend changed something that makes her look like you and being the insecure woman you are you star thinking "wow, she [Mariana] went out with a dude I got rid of and now her ex girlfriend come here looking really good and being the perfect friend." "What if this fake dating makes her realize she misses being with a woman?" "What if she thinks I don't like her like that? Elena certainly do."
Too much what ifs ...
P/s: I also need that Mariana tell Elena the truth about the fake dating. I will give her an outlet to talk about her feelings and maybe... Just maybe, Elena will be inclined to help Mariana win Ana once and for all, which indirectly, will help Ana get her head out of her ass.
@warningsine since our brainstorming session on the lcdlf and mshd crossover I've been thinking we kinda cover the Ana and Mariana giving Paulina a job on the company, but what if instead they invest in the cabaret? (Obviously here the cabaret is Paulina's only and she kept it afloat 'cause she couldn't keep the flower shop. Bear with me pls.)
You know, make it more exclusive and elite. idk.

I think we went a little bit too far dear lol but here we go again ...
"Elena is going blonde in season 3. Heh. Wonder why that is. Maybe because it’s established that Mariana is into blondes?"
First of all I did see this. And it would add SOOOO much drama if Mariana spill the tea with her about her fake dating and that move of Elena going blonde is to win Mariana back. Or it could just be a move on Elena's part to get on Ana's nerve. After all, Ana could be insecure in her "relationship" with Mariana after seeing how close she can be with [Elena] her ex.
"... It'd be refreshing to see her bond with another woman."
Not gonna lie, I'm digging this.
Also, Laura being the friend you gossip about your relationship is a more plausible line to follow in the show. Imagine, they're discussing about some random stuff about the divorce when Ana receive a text from Mariana (let's say about getting a dog) and she goes "I mean I love her but this is too much. Who would have thought that being a lesbian is so hard. How am I supposed to say no to a beautiful face like that *shows her a picture of her girlfriend*"
Dear fic writers, here is an idea for a story: What if Ana and Mariana meet when they're both pregnant and their love start to bloom out of mom solidarity?
Could be if they both attend Lamaze classes or both have the same obgyn and just hit it off. Maybe Ana's marriage crisis could happen during that pregnancy so she does everything alone and we all know what happened with Pablo and Mariana.
Idk. Just saying. I'm too lazy to actually writing it myself lol.
So I started writing this and I’ve named it after your username because a title was failing me. Your name worked perfectly (with a minor pronoun change).
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
I've read this. I'm IN LOVE. Continue when you have time please and thank youuuuuu 🤩🤩🤩💕💕💕
Do you understand how hard Mariana is going to have to fight with herself on S3? Ana (Lud) is SERVING LOOKS!!!! OMG.
“Fue la costumbre, nada más”
When Majo said "it was out of habit." I was like Habit? (Costumbre?) You haven't seen each other in years woman, what habits are you talking about?
The things I love the most about this scene are:
1) How cute and happy Paulina looks about the fact that the woman of her dreams said yes to (re)marry her. Literally, she looks like she just won the lottery.
2) How genuinely happy (and kinda shy) Maria José looks when Paulina kiss her and promise her she's going to make her happy.
You've got a cute little face and very nice details.
@willyoueventry, it's a (telenovela?) series that, unfortunately, got canceled.
Its premise:
Cecilia Suarez's character is married to a dude and has a child with him. At some point, she falls in love with a woman. When her husband finds out, his male ego gets hurt and wants to start a custody battle/take the child from her. (Rings a bell?) That's why he hires a lawyer, who's portrayed by Ludwika Paleta.
In the above scene, Paleta's character tries to use her charm/beauty to her advantage. (Because just like every lesbophobic straight woman out there, she believes that every single bi/gay woman must be into her.) Suffice it to say, it doesn't go well.
As you can tell, I'm trying to find a plausible AU scenario where past!Ana has such an interaction with a woman portrayed by Suarez (not necessarily with Paulina--although how funny would such a coincidence be?), but I can't think of one.
Maybe such a thing happens when she's younger? While she's still trying to climb the corporate ladder? For example, she can tell that her superior [or whoever Suarez's character is supposed to be in that scenario] is into women and tells herself, "Well, where's the harm in this? It's just flirting, it's not like I'm going to cheat on Juan Carlos. Besides, I'm not into women. It doesn't mean anything."
The truth is that it does mean something. Ana truly admires Suarez's character's spark--who, by the way, is a little older. And deep down? She likes her, but doesn't want to admit it to herself. Of course, it doesn't go anywhere. Not then at least, because shitty tactics and timing.
To make things worse/more complicated, this woman reenters Ana's life in s3 and shakes things up, lol. So we get the Alejo/Pau/Maria Jose/Kim jealousy quartet, but, you know, with this woman/Ana/Mariana/Ferran.
Fair's fair. If Ana is jealous of Ferran, then Mariana needs to be jealous of Ana's new ~love interest. As a treat.
Omg. A new must watch on my list!!!
And about the scenario, I can picture Suarez as herself being Ana's boss (not Lud) in a super fancy company. We could even have a Cecilia that's naturally flirty but with that authoritarian and powerful aura that comes with being a woman in a man's world with a job in a high position, traits that draw Ana to her orbit first as admiration and then as a "shit, this can't happen to me" sort of way.
'Cause there is NO WAY that a moment like that hasn't happened in Ana's life for her to be so in denial about her attraction to Mariana.
This woman [Suarez] appearing in S3 will or can confirm some doubts and questions Ana could have in regards of if this thing she has for Mariana is new or if she felt it before (speaking from personal experience here lol). And it'll definitely cause jealousy on Mariana because, even when she was with Ferrán to get over Ana, the mere thought of her [Ana] being with someone else and more so if it's a woman it's painful to watch.
"Omg. A new must watch on my list!!!"
Unfortunately, it's just a single episode with many cliffhangers, but happy watching anyway?
Oh, and let me correct myself, 'cause I accidentally swapped the actresses' names. Clearly, I need to rewatch it and refresh my memory, lol. Marina De Tavira's (see "Roma") character (Claudia) is the one that is in a supposedly perfect marriage. The truth is, she's got trouble with her kids, her marriage is not going well, and she's got a cancer scare (rings a bell?).
Olivia (Cecilia Suarez's character) is Claudia's supportive old friend (and more open to a lesbian romance), whom Claudia ends up kissing.
Claudia's husband finds a photo where his wife kisses her friend and that's when shit hits the fan.
Paleta's character is the antagonist/villain of the show. She's truly vile and will do anything to get ahead.
Honestly? Wishful thinking ahoy: Manolo Caro needs to create another Netflix series where these two end up dating each other. Suarez has already portrayed various queer women successfully (the one in "Capadocia," Paulina de la Mora the bicon, the one in this series etc.), so why not one more? Besides, Paleta needs to catch up. :P
"Cecilia that's naturally flirty but with that authoritarian and powerful aura"
Yes to this--to her character being brave enough to be open with her sexuality (if Ferran can do it, why not Cecilia's character, right?), but definitely not with her subordinates, because--talk about being unprofessional and creepy.
So when Ana dares to make a subtle compliment/pass at her (maybe one night after work while they're celebrating something job-related?), she takes it the wrong way and assumes that Ana is a straight woman trying to use her to get ahead. (Or something along these lines.)
Which is something that would make things awkward at work and Ana look for another job.
It's not until years later that Valeria (yes, I'm naming Suarez's hypothetical/headcanon character, lol) realizes that she was wrong.
Although she tries to be her normal/professional self around her, sometimes she doesn't quite succeed, because of all those uncomfortable/old memories/bad blood. When Mariana confronts her (because wow, what's up with you acting all weird around her? I've never seen you like this), Ana ends up discussing it with her. Well, maybe she doesn't tell her the whole truth/partially lies. And that's how Mariana starts getting suspicious/jealous.
Maybe, at some point, while the fake dating is not going well, Ana and Mariana have a fight (what else is new, right?). Maybe because of Ferran, maybe because of something else.
Suffice it to say, people at work start noticing Ana's bad mood/temperament.
So one evening/night (Ana is working late, because she doesn't want to go home and be alone with Mariana) Valeria comes to give her something [a folder/some documents], notices Ana's expressions and is, like, "Everything ok?"
At first, Ana tries to brush her concern off and stick to her work, but she can't concentrate at all. She's vulnerable/angry and having second thoughts about the charade, so she ends up getting some drinks with Valeria. Let's not forget that (except for Mariana) Ana doesn't have any real friends to talk to. Obviously, she can't tell her the truth about Mariana, so she has to invent a bullshit "trouble in paradise" reason. It gets Valeria's attention, because bitter divorce. They're both tipsy and when Valeria confronts Ana ('cause she's noticed her behavior)/brings up that past moment of theirs, she tells her that all that is in the past and they should put it behind them/not let it affect their current professional relationship. Ana agrees. Maybe they share an awkward little moment with sexual tension then, maybe not.
The thing is, after that night, and while Ana and Mariana are at odds, Valeria starts trying to hang with Ana, because she likes her. Now they're equals (not boss/employee anymore), so she's got no moral qualms about befriending and pursuing Ana.
And, yeah, Ana is in love with Mariana, but she's also not entirely immune to Valeria's charm either. Old one-sided crushes that aren't actually one-sided anymore, heh. Especially since Mariana seems to still be in love with Ferran. "After our fake dating is over, she'll go back to him."
Anyhow. That's how we get the jealous quartet. Maybe there's a Valeria/Ana kiss that reverses their roles this time. Valeria is the one that makes the pass, but gets rejected. Ana is, like, "I'm sorry, but I can't," and Valeria is, like, "It's ok. I understand. You love her."
Or something like that.
"'Cause there is NO WAY that a moment like that hasn't happened in Ana's life for her to be so in denial about her attraction to Mariana."
Right? The level of denial is amazing.
Had she been straight (but not homophobic, which she isn't), she wouldn't have reacted like this. "You kissed me" this and "you drugged me" that. Or "you said you're in love with me, confused hippie" with that butthurt expression. She would have been, like, "I love you, Mariana, just not like that. Now that you lied to me, I can't trust you anymore." The end.
"So when Ana dares to make a subtle compliment/pass at her, she takes it the wrong way and assumes that Ana is a straight woman trying to use her to get ahead."
"...while the fake dating is not going well."
Better: while the fake dating is going so well that Ana realize actually how deeply in love she is with Mariana, she also starts so get insecure if Mariana's feelings are reciprocal. She start to think that after all this ends, Mariana will run back to the arms of Ferrán and she'll end up alone with her feelings.
"She's not entirely immune to Valeria's charm"
Because she can't help but think Mariana doesn't love her like that anymore and another beautiful woman giving her attention does something to her ego. But in the end, after making a pass, Valeria gets rejected because feelings. This time tho, things don't get weird like in the past, they're both mature women after all so they end up being friends, and the naturally flirty nature of Valeria is what end up stirring Mariana's jealousy.
"Had she been straight, she wouldn't have reacted like this. "
EXACTLY.
P/s: This is just potential lesbian drama at its finest.
I'm kinda falling in love with our (your) version of Ana's hypothetical female love interest here, and I'm actually tempted to write something about them, hee.
As for the actual show, it'll be really disappointing if it gets aggressively hetero in s3 (a la s2) and gives Ana another male ~love interest. Like, duh, I'm rooting for Ana/Mariana here, but if they decide to not make them a couple, I'd be happy to see Ana figure her sexuality out and date another woman at some point. (Basically what they did with with JR/Petra on JtV.)
"She [Valeria] can take it the right way but, as you previously stated, given her position of power it would be creepy so she just ignores it."
Nice. Definitely better than what I suggested.
"On the other hand, Ana could just play dumb around Valeria to avoid any awkwardness in the work place"
This makes more sense and it's more up Ana's alley. She's not a teen with a crush.
"but since Mariana learned how to read people (especially Ana)"
Since when?
Had she been an actually good student, she would have noticed Ana's reactions whenever she mentioned him/that she wanted to try a serious relationship with him. :>
