“Wait...how long was I asleep?”
heroicheartx:
“That’s my boy,” she grinned, kissing and holding onto him for just a beat longer. Even so, Mary knew she couldn’t keep hugging him forever, no matter how much comfort and warmth it gave her after so long, but the growl of her stomach happily reminded her that being alive again also came with certain needs. Needs that needed fulfilling.
Chuckling, she pulled away slowly, looking up at her tallest son with a fond grin. “God, I’m starving! –Are you hungry? Do you want to go for burgers?”
Sam have a sigh, happy to have his mother there. The hug was something he’d wanted so many times over the years, and now, getting it, made him happier than he could even think to explain. Much like when Jessie had been born. Hearing her stomach growl made him smile a bit and look down at his mother.
“You know? Burgers sound awesome. I’ll get the keys to the car and we can go.”
heroicheartx:
The female Winchester might not know who he had become yet, but she knew he was good and her Sammy. And on top of that, he was a real blessing with the way he managed to see just what she needed. Holding on tightly, a smile spreading slowly at her son’s strong warmth, she returned his sentiments easily.
“I’ll always be your mom, Sammy. No matter what happens. Dean’s, too. And I’m so grateful you boys will be around to help me. I don’t know why I’m back– I don’t even know if I can belong in this world again, but it means a lot that you two are here. I’ll never take that for granted.”
There was a softening in his posture at the return of the hug. It had been something he’d wished for since he could remember. He smiled a bit at her words, nodding. He knew that no matter what happened his mother would be there, and it didn’t matter why she was back or how, he was just happy to have her with them. To have her be a part of their lives again.
“I know you will. We can try and find out why you’re back, but I don’t care. I’m just happy to have you here, and I know Dean feels the same way. And we will always be here to help you with anything that you need. I promise.”
heroicheartx:
Following the move of his hand with her eyes, Mary could instantly feel her fingers itch to touch his hair, too. To run her fingers through the locks in comfort, like she would have if he had been just a child. That, or to cut it off, seeing as how he was an adult and a hunter now. Hunting with long, pullable hair wasn’t very practical.
Still, that wasn’t what mattered most now. Closing her fist somewhat awkwardly, seeing as how the blonde was uncertain whether or not her touch would be welcomed, she smiled a little out-of-place-grin. “And you boys are my life.”
Now it was even more true than ever before, considering she knew nothing of this world anymore.
He wanted to hug her. Hell, that urge was in him every time he looked at his mother. He watched her for a moment, seeing her hand open and then close before Sam took a few steps towards her and wrapped his arms around her. The tall male let the breath he’d been holding out, shoulders sagging just a bit as he held his mother close to him.
“No matter what, you’re my mom and you’re here. You are always going to be a part of my life, and I know Dean feels the same way. And no matter what, we are gonna help you get used to everything here. We all will, I promise you that.”
Mom
“I know you boys will, but– You’ve still got to live your lives, too,” she pointed out. There was so much she didn’t understand, the world and everyone in it, changed, and Mary couldn’t expect them to teach her everything. Surely, they had other things to do.
A smile stretched across her features, knowing her son was proud of the person she had been, but when he mentioned the actions she had taken in saving John, that same smile fell. Of course, she understood what he was saying though, having told him the same before –maybe not in so many words, but the message had been the same. “I know it isn’t easy, but everything’s a blank and– I’ve got a feeling there are things I need to know. For later. –So whenever you’re ready, Sammy, I’m here.”
He looked down for a moment, there was plenty that she needed to know. And of course, there was some of his life he was thrilled to share with his mother: Amber, Jessie, Jess. His family. He wanted to give Mary the chance to be a part of everything he and Dean had built. With everyone they had built it with.
“I know. I know you are.” He took a deep breath, a hand going to card through locks far too long, he’d need to get a hair cut soon. Before someone attempted to hold him down and do it. “We may have our lives, but we want you to be a part of our lives. You are a part of our lives.”
Mom
Despite his size, Mary could see the boy he’d once been, behind the smile and her own widened, too. They had never had a chance before, and it hurt worse than anything she ever could have imagined.
“I have so much to catch up to,” she mused, mostly to herself, guilt festering within at the knowledge that her boys only really had each other for all these decades. She could see it in his eyes–this need for approval. Didn’t he know? Sam didn’t need to vy for her love. She was his mother. Her love was unconditional. However, growing up without her, maybe he had come to feel like somehow she abandoned him. And considering how it was all her fault, from the yellow eyed demon to everything that happened after –in a way she had. Swallowing, Mary whispered thickly, “I hope I’ll make you proud some day, too, Sammy.”
It felt so odd to have his mother here before him. But a good odd. It felt right. Like something he’d been missing his entire life. “And Dean and I want to help you catch up.” He wanted to tell her everything that happened. Well, almost everything. There would need to be some editing that he and Dean would talk through. There was so much bad that had happened. Sam wasn’t sure if he wanted his mom to know all of. He didn’t want her to feel like this was her fault. But there was good, and Sam was more than happy to share that.
“I am proud of you, Mom. You are amazing. Everything you’ve done, everything you did to save Dad. I couldn’t not be proud of you. I love you.” He chewed on his lip for a moment, “There’s a lot that has happened, and its hard to explain everything.”

It felt like his heart was pounding in his throat. He was honestly terrified about what his mother would think of him now. He was sure that he was nothing like what she’d envisioned for him. He was a hunter, not the lawyer he’d wanted to be. At the touch to his hair, he looked at her. Her words caused him to smile gently.
“It makes me so happy to know that.” All he’d ever wished for growing up was for John to be proud of him and to know that Mary would have been as well. Hearing that lifted a giant weight off of his chest. “I just want to make you proud.”
She is not mine. I don’t think she could ever be anyone’s. She doesn’t want to be owned. That’s what I love most about her.

She was surprised by Sam putting an arm around her, but didn’t say anything. At his words, she shrugged, “I’m fine. I mean…there really isn’t much to talk about.” There was plenty for her to talk about. The abuse, Damien’s death, Jess’s death, and more, but she was more afraid to open that can of worms than anything else. “You haven’t talked about it either.”
He’d missed holding her. Just as he missed holding Jess. It still seemed unreal that Jess was gone, and that Amber hadn’t been his for what felt like years. Even Jess had commented on more than one occasion that she missed it being the three of them. Of course that bastard Damian had decided to fuck that up. “I missed you. We both did.” He was quiet, but he knew that she could hear him. “We should...we should probably talk about it.”
Amber laughed, “Sammy, baby. I’m pregnant.” A smile brightened up her face. “You and I are going to have a baby.”
There seemed to be a short in his brain for a moment, “Wait....a baby? We’re gonna have a baby?”

“I think we should go do something. Just the three of us.”
“Alright? And what do you have in mind?”
“Or we could stay in?”
At The End Of The Trail
The fact that he brought up when she’d originally returned from Hell made her stop and stare at him. There was only a handfull of people who actually knew what had happened when she’d come back. After all, it had only been those that had been out at the house. And that had been the second time the tests had been ran, the first time had just been Sam. And there was no way that a monster could have known what had been done when Sam had first found her at her grave.
“Fine. Just get it done.”
When he took a step back, Amber looked him over. He looked like Sam. Sounded like Sam. Hell when he held her, he smelled like Sam. Nothing that would make her think otherwise. No sulfur smell to make her think he was a demon, but she had holy water in the back to use. Along with silver and everything else she needed. She gave a slightly pained groan as she got out of the passenger seat and moved to the trunk to get the couple of items she needed. “Alright. Sit.”
Sam did as he was told, sitting down after she moved out of the passenger seat. He knew that she had everything she needed, there was no way that Dean would let her leave and go off on her own without every bit of equipment that they knew worked against various creatures. Holy water, silver, salt, and everything else under the sun.
“Come on, Ber. I know you know that I’m not a monster. All you have to is listen to my thoughts.”
He knew that it was right, though in the time that he’d been away and even the time he’d been following her, he had no idea if she’d learned how to shut that off completely. She’d been working on it since they’d found out where he got his powers from and where she got her’s. “I know you want to make sure, and I get that, but I promise, you’re not dreaming. I’m not a monster. This is real.”
She chuckled, “Just moments, huh? I think it’s a bit more than just a moment.” Amber snuggled in close, not really thinking about it. It was cool in the hotel, and she was one who would rather have warmth. “What do you wanna talk about?”
He gave her a grin, “You might be right there.” Sam’s cheeks darkened a little when she snuggled in closer, but just put an arm around her. “I don’t know. Just wanted to make sure that you were alright. Worried about you, you haven’t really talked about anything since we got back to hunting.”
She’d be lying if she said that she didn’t give Sam and very surprised and slightly shocked look. Amber had thought that if she said 9 months it would have been very clear as to what she was talking about. “Sammy…9 months honey.”
He blinked at her again, completely confused. “Amber, I am completely lost.” He wanted to blame it on being tired, and a great deal of it was due to that, but even then he wasn’t totally sure on what Amber was talking about. “What’s going, babe?”
At The End Of The Trail
When he frowned Amber almost wanted to glare at him. She knew that frown. Even if she was so sure that this wasn’t Sam, she knew that look. His pity look, his ‘Don’t be so stubborn and stop fighting me’ look. The ‘Everything will be alright look’. And seeing it on his face pissed her off. He wasn’t real, why did his ghost have to be tormenting her with such painful looks. But his words stopped her again.
“You’ve been following me.”
Now she was sure this was some sort of monster, wearing Sam’s face. Why else would it follow her around and see that she’d been hunting alone. Had to be that it wanted to kill her itself, why else would it save her from the djinn? “Why? Want to kill me yourself? Let me guess, you upset by some hunt I did or the Apocalypse coming to an end? Get in line, I am sure there are plenty of other monsters that want my head on a platter.”
He shook his head as they got to the car. Sam took a moment to balance Amber’s small frame as best he could as he got the door open and set her in the front seat so that he would get a better look at the wounds she had. “I’m not a monster, you can run all the tests that you want on me once I get you looked over. Same as you told me when you showed up after you were gone. I promise, no fights no arguments over it.
“Just sit still and let me look at you.”
He started looking over her, checking to make sure the blood wasn’t coming from some wound that was deep and life threatening. Small things, he could handle once she’d calmed down and run the tests that he knew were coming, the big things where what he wanted to focus on. Once that was done, Sam took a step back. “Alright. Alright. Tests. Throw whatever you want at me, and then we talk, alright?”
A dark brow was raised in the direction of the tall male before tiny female got out of the hotel bed and padded across the room to climb under the sheets with him. Golden eyes looked up to meet deep green ones, “You are so weird, you know that right?”
He pulled the covers back down to fall over the two of them, attempting to cut out the cold air of the hotel room. At her words he grinned sheepishly, shrugging, “I have my moments. Just wanted to talk if you were awake.”
