Cedfia Week - Day 7 - Paradise
The princess was looking at the stars, lost in her own thoughts. The castle was finally quiet and the gentle breeze outside was comforting. She didn't even hear the footsteps getting close to her.
— The sky looks lovely tonight, dear. — Cedric approached her with a fond smile.
Sofia turned her head to face him, a slight blush adorned her cheeks. His company was never unwanted, even when she wanted to be left alone.
— Yes, it is. — she said gazing back at the sky — See that star over there? — the sorcerer looked at the star that the princess was pointing at.
— The shiny one? — he asked, raising his eyebrow.
— The brightest one. That's Amberina Major. The star named by my sister. It makes the night sky appear even more magical than it already is… — Sofia sighed and leaned against the balcony railing, her expression changing back to the sadder one, avoiding his gaze.
Cedric gently placed his arm around her waist, worried about his beloved and unsure of what should he do.
— Is something wrong, Sofia? — he asked in a soft tone.
The woman remained silent for a while, leaning into his touch.
— Nothing… I think I'm a bit overwhelmed, that's all. I… Just kinda want to find a place free from all the troubles, a place full of happiness and love. — the princess explained. Cedric was listening to her, allowing Sofia to get it off her chest. — The stars… They feel almost magical, as if they could hold a paradise locked behind all those constellations… Do you think we will reach them one day? — she asked, looking him in the eyes with hope and curiosity. There was also a gleam of seriousness in them.
The sorcerer looked away, fixing his robe, as if to help him think of the right words to say. There was no place like that in the world, not even above the sky, he knew it and deep down she was probably aware of it too. Yet, that answer would be too heartless at the moment. Slowly, he turned his gaze back to her. Sofia was the love of his life, the happiness of his world, that for so many years felt so hopeless. Cedric smiled to her.
— Even if there is a place like that, I don't need to see it.
— Really!? Why? — Sofia was looking at him, surprised and confused. The sorcerer giggled.
— Because, my dear, my paradise is not in the sky. It's wherever you're with me.
