“How am I gonna convince those guys it was an accident?”
“Well, you could always just tell them it was an accident and see if they believe you first.”
Grantaire’s lips quirked into a slight smile. “Well, Enj, if I didn’t know better I’d say that you wanted to just move in together.”
“ it’s beginning to look a lot like christmas.”
She turned to the other and smiled. “I suppose it is ”. The street was lit up with Christmas lights, the shop windows all had there christmas displays up and the snow was begin to softly fall.
“I love winter ” she commented to the stranger
Grantaire hummed, glancing too at the twinkling lights. “Kinda makes you forget about the shitty things in life, eh? Hell, it even masks the chunks missing from the sidewalk.” He turned to his sudden companion. “Winter’s… okay, at least like this. Once the street salters come out this whole street is gonna be slush.”Â
She nodded in agreement “ that’s why I like the country . Every thing is white , it glistens . Hardly ever any footsteps.. but alas there are jobs in the city .. so ” she shrugs “ enjoying it while I can ” there was a satisfied smile on her face
Grantaire blinked. “I mean... I could point you to any street in the city and you’ll barely see the snow with the amount of foot traffic.” He dropped his voice to a grumple. “Stupid tourists.”
“How am I gonna convince those guys it was an accident?”
“Well, you could always just tell them it was an accident and see if they believe you first.”
Grantaire hopped up. “I’ll get it.” He padded to the door, pulling it open. “Enj! Uh…hey?”
“Hey,” Enj smiled and kissed his cheek.
Grantaire blushed with a wide smile. He gasped. “And hello, my handsome man!” He reached to collect Pierre. “Was he any trouble?”
Pierre purred once he was in Grantaire’s arms again.
“Not at all, I just accidentally wiggled my toes while I was stretching once and he pounced them, but it was very cute.”
Grantaire laughed, stroking the cat’s head. “What a silly boy. But I’m actually glad he feels comfortable with you, because I have a question for you.” He looked up, regarding Enjolras with a neutral expression. “I’d like to move in with you.”
Enjolras was shocked, but smiled brightly all the same, “I’d love for you to move in with me!”
Grantaire held up a hand. “I don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, so I have some...terms.” He set Pierre down, who padded off to see Ferre, before regarding Enjolras. “This isn’t permanent, first off. I’d only like a place to crash until I find a new apartment. Second, I don’t want to invade your space. It’s your apartment, not ours. I don’t want you to offset your home for me.” He took a breath. “God, it’s weird to be this confident. Oof.”
He looked back at Enjolras. “Then there’s.... the last thing.” He reached for one of Enj’s hands. “I want... I want you to help me. With all of this.” He gestured vaguely. “I’ve... come to realize that I’ll be better off if I don’t try to face it on my own. But! We’re taking it slow. So...yeah.” He shrugged his shoulders.

Grantaire hopped up. “I’ll get it.” He padded to the door, pulling it open. “Enj! Uh…hey?”
“Hey,” Enj smiled and kissed his cheek.
Grantaire blushed with a wide smile. He gasped. “And hello, my handsome man!” He reached to collect Pierre. “Was he any trouble?”
Pierre purred once he was in Grantaire’s arms again.
“Not at all, I just accidentally wiggled my toes while I was stretching once and he pounced them, but it was very cute.”

Montparnasse was over at Grantaire's apartment for a dinner that was a little fancier than their normal routine. They had been dating for a long while now, he had almost lost track of the time, he was so deeply in love with the other man. The question he was about to ask made him extremely nervous, but he figured it was time. "R, darling? What would you think about us moving in together?" He asked timidly.
Grantaire’s eyes crinkled as he soaked in his boyfriend’s ramblings. The man was an absolute delight, and Grantaire basked in the fact that he was allowed to see this softer side. He squeezed Montparnasse’s hand and chuckled. “Easy, my love. I’m a strong independent man, I can walk myself home.” His brushed his lips across Montparnasse’s knuckles. “Although I do enjoy showing you off to the rest of the company.” He sat back, tone shifting. “But, promise me one thing, yeah?” A thought, a memory was nagging at the back of Grantaire’s mind; it wasn’t the aching knaw that had plagued him in the early stages of their relationship, but more like a light tap from a toothpick. Nonetheless, he knew now expressing his emotions maintained a healthy relationship so he persevered. “...Promise me we’ll still have our own lives? That it’s okay if we can do our own things, independently?”
Montparnasse giggled softly, "I know, I know you're capable, I also like having you show me off," he admitted. He tilted his head when Grantaire shifted, "Anything you want," he listened to the other's request. "Of course, I don't want to take over your whole life, and I have work too, my love," he reassured him, his smile returning in full force. He loved that they had such different interests as well as the things they could share, that was one of the best parts of their relationship. They could always ramble and support one another. "It'll always be nice to catch up at the end of the day too, I think anyway," he gave Grantaire's hand a squeeze. "Promise me that you'll let me know if I ever get too clingy? I know how I can be sometimes, I don't want to smother you. I'm just not used to something so healthy, and I get excited," he shifted a little feeling somewhat vulnerable acknowledging this. Even though they had discussed it before.
Grantaire smiled uneasily. Codependency frightened him greatly; even the months of therapy he had finally caved into hadn’t chased that anxiety away. Nonetheless he reminded himself that his relationship with Montparnasse was healthy, and there was no justified fear. So he gave his boyfriend’s hand an achoring squeeze, took a breath, and nodded. “I can’t promise that I won’t be vigilant for the first few weeks, but... I trust you. You’ve been good to me, and I love you so much for that.” He kissed Montparnasse’s knuckles. “I think... I think this’ll be good for me, for us.”
"I'll do whatever I can to put you at ease, my love," he sighed, all of his features softening. "You mean so very much to me, I would never be anything but good to you, I love you." He promised him, giving a nod, "I think it will be too," he leaned over and kissed Grantaire on the cheek, "We don't have to right away, we can ease into it if you want, so it isn't too much all at once. How does that sound? We could pack up some of your things and we could try for those first few weeks at first and see how you're feeling?" He asked trying not to overwhelm him. "I want you to be completely comfortable, you know that right?"
Grantaire beamed, his cheek blushing a soft pink. He considered his boyfriend’s suggestion. “That.... that actually might work out well. That way, we can still feel that we have our own respective spaces.” He smiled. “I know you do. We both have our hangups, but I know you’ve been especially patient with mine. I absolutely appreciate that. And you do make me comfortable.” He squeezed Montparnasse’s hand. “I appreciate you so much. So... how shall we do this? We could start packing up my place tonight, since you’re already here. Sound good?”

Ferre blushed, “You really think so? Does it look like him? Would he like it?”
“He’d love it! On second thought…” Grantaire slid it back over to Ferre. “You should give it to him!”
Ferre looked at it, “Do you want me to draw something else for you?”
“Why not? Enj is on the way still- it’d be a nice surprise that The Gabriel Combeferre made him a custom piece. Oh! Draw him that cappuccino he always gets!”
“Okay,” Ferre chuckled, blushing slightly, “I’m not anywhere near as good as you though.”
Grantaire waved a hand. “You’re fine. Besides, if I’m allowed to live with him he’ll have to get used to art being everywhere.”
“Not a bad way to live though, right?”
“Not unless your organize your art the way I do.” He laughed.

Grantaire enjoyed the little dinners with his boyfriend. They were once anxious affairs, but the continued practice began to ease his troubles. Thus, Grantaire felt far more relaxed when at their little get togethers. That’s why the question Montparnasse posed caught Grantaire completely by surprise. The fork he held clatter onto the table, and the bite of bread caught in his throat. He coughed, slapping his chest until his throat cleaned. “I-I beg your pardon?” He stammered.
Montparnasse flinched when the fork hit the table. He watched with concern as his boyfriend started to choke on his bread, by the time he started to rise to help he was being asked a question as opposed to getting an answer. His face flushed, hot, he wasn't sure if he wanted to repeat himself, somehow being asked to repeat himself was worse than if Grantaire had just told him no outright. He sputtered at first, his mouth opening but no sound escaping he was so anxious. He took a moment to try and compose himself, he was thoroughly embarrassed, "I asked if you would want to move in together." His voice was small, and hesitant as he waited for the other shoe to drop. Hopefully this time he would get a clear answer.
Finally digesting this newfound information, Grantaire sat back to ponder. “Move in...” He mused. “...It... would be nice to pay less rent and...” He gave his meager apartment a cursory glance. “...finally leave this dump.” He returned his attention to his skittish-looking boyfriend. With a small smile, he took the other’s hand in his. “Now, tell me- where’d this idea come from?”
Montparnasse calmed down as soon as Grantaire grabbed his hand, "I've just been thinking a lot lately, about how much I love you, and I want to spend more time with you," he rambled, his face still flushed, "I love spending the night here, or when you spend the night with me, and getting to wake up next to you," he kissed his boyfriend's hand, "So what do you say? We can turn my spare room into an art studio for you." He offered, flashing a sheepish smile.
Grantaire’s lip quirked. God, he loved how cute his boyfriend was when he got nervous. He allowed Montparnasse to finished before he digested everything as a whole. “Hm...” He tapped his thumb against Montparnasse’s hand. “Well... it would be nice to have an actual art studio,” he glanced at the pile of sketch books in the corner, “and your place is closer to my dance studio...” He bit his lip. The idea of moving into someone else’s place usually freaked Grantaire out, due to a past relationship, but here he saw no issue. He loved his boyfriend, and felt safe with him in a way where he wasn’t being diminished or isolated. Grantaire returned his attention to Montparnasse with a wide smile. “... I actually think that sounds great.”
