❝ bleeding, no. other problems ? ❞ eleven asks, pretending to mull it over before tacking on a semi sarcastic debatable. she may not have internal bleeding but she’s sure got issues, doc. as nice as the pretty nurse is being, one truth remains: eleven. hates. hospitals. there’s just something about the sterile chill of the rooms that makes her skin crawl. ❝ the last time i tried to talk about it, i— ❞ her words fall short as she realizes she’s about to nonchalantly recount childhood trauma. even worse, she was going to chuckle ( bitterly ) as she did it. ❝ it’s nothing that’ll convince you that i don’t have something wrong with my brain, ❞ eleven says with a shrug. her gaze falls to the floor. ❝ and nothing in general, really. just weird coincidences. ❞ or, y’know.. powers.
andromeda huffs a laugh, shaking her head in amusement as she moves to finish filling in the chart for the doctor to look at so they could come up with a better idea on how to treat the young lady. she glances up when elle’s voice abruptly cuts off, and there goes andy’s curiosity. she has half a mind to ask what the young girl is hiding, but that would be crossing a boundary that could potentially get her fired. “weird coincidences...got it,” for just a moment, andromeda is sure that the girl sitting before her is a witch of some kind. perhaps she attended the school in america -- oh, what was it called ? silver-something ? who knows. “my best advice would be to take some ibuprofen for the head and listen to what your doctor tells you. there’s a possibility that he may check you for a concussion, even though from what i understand, you didn’t hit your head. once that’s out of the way, there may be an MRI to check for any clots in the brain that could have led to the abrupt bleeding. if you don’t want that, you have to be very explicit, alright ?”

the idea of being noticed to any degree sends carrie through a loop. for the most part she goes through life convinced she’s under an invisibility cloak ; very few people outside of her social circle ( aka, the church ) seem to take notice of her at all. she’s not nearly as sociable as the girl before her seems to be, though she wishes she could be. ❝ i’m carrietta, ❞ the teenager says. ❝ but carrie works, too. ❞ she seems to get strange reactions to her full name ( shoutout to horror fans ), so she keeps it to herself. ❝ and your name is quite lovely, prim. it’s very pretty at first and then it ends strong. ❞ wait, is that a weird thing to say ?
“it’s very, very nice to meet you, carrietta. you have a lovely name as well.” the grin that graces prim’s lips is genuine, bright and full. there’s a light pink tinge to her cheeks at the compliment -- prim can hardly remember the last time someone referred to her as strong, whether in this life or her previous one. she’s always been treated at the gentle one, the girl who can’t handle anything on her own. hearing someone refer to her as strong, even though it was just her name, is enough to send her over the moon. “sit, sit ! do you want a cup of coffee or hot chocolate or something ? i was about to go and get more tea, and i’d be more than happy to bring you something back.”

everything’s fine —— until it hits. a new memory disrupts the otherwise peaceful day that josie’s having. she suddenly feels like she’s stuck somewhere. like in a room without windows for too long, running out of oxygen. wait no… not just stuck. buried. josie’s hand presses firmly against her chest as she struggles to breathe. for the moment, she feels as though she’s back in the dirt. she tries to stand up, to rush out, and unintentionally bumps into someone in the process. “i’m… sorry…” josie mumbles, on the border of hyperventilating now. why can she remember her biological mother burying her alive ?
every motherly instinct within hayley marshall’s body comes to life the very second josie bumps into her. brown eyes search the young girl’s face and body for any sign of harm, and only when she’s absolutely certain that there’s no direct danger does she bend down, brushing some of josie’s hair from her face. “sweetheart, you need to take a deep breath. you’re going to faint if you don’t calm down just a little bit, alright ?” there was something eerily familiar about the teenager standing before her, but hayley couldn’t quite put her finger on it. she’d never seen josie at this age, after all. hell, the last time she saw her was when she was close to seven years old, outside the salvatore school where alaric saltzman swore to keep hope safe. “focus on the sound of my voice, and nothing else. you’re alright, there’s no one that’s going to hurt you while i’m here, i promise.”

under normal circumstances, moana would have been bummed about the smoothie that fell from her hand when josie ran into her. in fact, she probably would have had some sarcastic comment to follow the ordeal, but any sarcasm she holds dies on her tongue the second she gets a look at josie’s face. her eyebrows knit together in concern and she reaches out a steadying hand to ensure the girl stays upright, eyes widening as she tries to think of what to do. “do -- do you need to go and sit down ?”

after walking passed a classroom that appears empty, josie finds herself needing a double take. she’s on her way home for the day but she could’ve sworn she saw something —— someone inside. her eyebrows furrow slightly as she takes the required steps backwards. she peeks her head inside of the doorway though once she sees alaric sitting at the professor’s desk her eyes go wide. “… dad ?” josie asks as she nervously digs her nails into her textbook. she’s been wrong before and really doesn’t want to get her hopes up.
ric hardly ever bats an eye anymore at the word ‘ dad ’. he’s spent so long on this island and has had so many people screech the word at him from every fuckin’ angle that he’s almost given up hope that his actual children would be the ones referring to him as dad. but then he’d found lizzie, and that feeble hope grew into something much, much stronger. and so, with his head resting in the palm of his hand, red pen wildly correcting half-assed answers from tired students, he hears the word ‘ dad ’. his gaze lifts, swift remark on his tongue to not call him that, but then he sees josie, his josie, and all thought goes flying out the window. his eyes widen and he sets down his pen, slowly rising to his feet. “josie ? baby, is that you ?”

he didn’t know whether or not to consider it a blessing or a curse, ‘a blessing, stop being stupid’. exactly the opposite of what he was thinking about now he had to live with that again. he thought it was all a joke, a big fat joke but there he was again— living with a parasite—-symbiote, same difference. he wanted to be left alone and yet it was seemingly impossible when he was so hungry. all this and more ran through his mind as he basically scarfed down so much food, it garnered plenty of stares. “never seen a guy eat?”
alaric’s seen plenty of crazy shit in his life, but never has he seen someone shove so much food down their throat that they could choke. hell, even he hadn’t eaten like that, and he could pack down 12 big macs in one sitting back in the college days. “uh...i’ve never seen a guy eat the equivalent of a fucking water buffalo, no.”

hayley’s expression shifts from one of curiosity to one of blatant amusement, eyebrows lifting as jason’s story progresses. “what a riot,” her words drip from her lips like honey, the sarcasm braided into her tone. “tell me, is there anything more interesting than a denny’s parking lot at three in the morning, dude ?”

“IS THAT SEAT taken ?” annabeth’s words are slightly winded. she’s just finished up her morning run, and was looking forward to the rather large coffee that she usually got afterwards. normally, the cafe wasn’t so busy this early in the morning, but for some reason, everyone must have decided to wake up at the asscrack of the day to get their caffeine fix. “everywhere else is kinda full.”
this morning was the first in quite a while that hayley had awoken as early as she had, and why, she couldn’t place her finger on. thank God the local cafe was open though -- she could use a decently made cup of coffee before having to head into work. she sits in silence for what feels like hours, despite the cafe being absolutely packed, before the welcome bell rings again. hazel hues dart up from her phone screen at the sound of a voice addressing her, and she considers for a moment before nodding. “i suppose you can sit there, sure. you alright, though ? you sound like you just outran a wolf.”
