“That is an apt interpretation.” Griffith pondered to himself for a moment, and then nodded. “I’ll take this explanation. It makes the most sense.”

“Is that why Serpico bought chocolate rabbits? I thought those were for dessert……So we just hide the eggs and give away chocolate? Why? What about Church?”
“I suppose so. Perhaps it’s a bonding activity? That wasn’t explained to me.”
“As for church, there’s going to be a service on the Friday before. The Pontiff will speak at length about repenting one’s sins and mourning the loss of humanity’s innocence. Maybe the festivities are to balance the strict ceremonies.”

“They’re for the children? ….I thought they were like…..decorations….like Faberge eggs…..We have to give them away…..?”
“I was told the tradition is to hide them throughout the garden for children to find. There was talk of rewards such as coin or sweets. I’m not sure of the specifics, actually.”

A sigh breathed past his lips - a gentle exhale to stir the plumage of white cascading down his shoulders. “Mother,” the word dripped from his tongue, cold as icicles of dew. “Do you despise me now that I have returned to you? Will you shun me...” his gaze rose to behold hers, “...when I have sacrificed all to once again be at your side?”

Indeed. They had gone through a lot, and through out she had always been honest with him and outspoken on what she thought. Things had changed around them but not themselves, she should still be honest.
“I’m afraid. I’m afraid you’ll go to battle and I’ll see you no more. I want to see you for as long as I can.”
Humour would’ve been an easy resort. Lighthearted banter always eased the mood, but it never truly soothed, so Griffith found himself incapable of conjuring a coy gaze. Instead, he pulled Farnese closer, an arm sliding around her slim shoulders so that she may rest her head upon his chest should she wished.
“A veil of black will never shroud my Lady’s fair countenance.” He reassured her. For once, he knew with certainty that his words would not fail. “My fate is not to perish under the blade of a tyrant. You will not mourn me.”

His gesture made her blush a bit, but his following words made her pout for a moment. “I just worry about you….Sometimes I feel like there’s some nihilism in you…and that, well…” She didn’t say anything else. Words had power and the last thing she wanted was for him to consider any negative thoughts.
His gaze studied her features before lowering aside. “We’re in the midst of war. I’d say there is plenty of nihilism in everyone.” It was a diversion, but he wasn’t ready to delve into this subject. He didn’t think he would ever be ready.
“Please, speak your mind. You are my wife. You of all people shouldn’t have to be timid around me.”

“Thank you~ I promise I’ll head back once we reached the border.” She would keep her word this time, now she knew that with enough insistence he would relent for her whims~ Farnese had legitimate concerns this time however.
Griffith shook his head. “There’s no need for thanks. I only want you and our child to be safe and looked after.” He walked a little closer, and brushed aside a lock of golden hair with an idle digit.
“I would hope you do.” He made the effort to put on a small smile. “There will be no negotiation once we arrive at the outskirts of Midland.”

“Just let me do this. It would reassure me a lot.” She gave him a wry smile, obviously concerned about something.
“...Very well.” He couldn’t refuse her when she looked upon him like this. “I will concede only once.”

“Let me be selfish just this once. I’ll do whatever you want later. But for now I want to go with you and make sure you’re safe.”
“...”
“...Whether I am safe or not is beyond your control.” He sighed, though his protests seemed to have lessened in amplitude.

“…..I will ride with you. Wether you like it or not. I’ll not go back yet and you cannot change my mind.” She didn’t want to confess how worried she actually was, for him.
“...You shouldn’t be so stubborn. You’re a mother now. You cannot abide only to your own wishes.”

“I’m riding with you until the border, then I’ll turn back. Besides, out daughter has her pet kitty with her, I think she’ll be sufficiently entertained and protected for now.”
“She doesn’t need entertainment. She needs your embrace and your love. An army moves slowly. A trip to the border will take a fortnight. I’d rather our daughter not have to be without both of us for such a long while.”
