Winnie drunk, verses sober was like night and day. When he was sober he had the wherewithal to be composed and rational, leaning towards the timid and introverted side of the scale. However, when he was drunk there was an almost youthful carefree nature to him where he became loud and reckless perhaps a bit clingy; truthfully nothing more than an over grown toddler who just found every little thing to be so fascinating. But ‘seven drink in Winnie’ well that was a whole different ball park.

“Wait, wait, wait, wait.” He repeated the word, each time it got a little more slurred than the last before a laugh bubbled out him. “Have you ever realized that if you rip a hole in a net, it now has less holes than it used to? And then the more holes you rip, the even less holes it has? That’s fucking insannnne.” He drawled the last word out, genuinely looking so baffled by his own discovery.

he doesn’t really buy any perfume or cologne in nearly every store around here , mostly because a lot of them aren’t even vegan ( yes , he’s definitely one of those ) . silvio came in here to get a new highlighter , since his had cracked and was about to expire , but he began looking around the store , even though he was only buying that one thing , but he’s bored . his gaze turns to the male , giving him his full attention . a light hearted chuckle leaves his rosy lips , and he crinkles his nose in slight disgust . “ i don’t smoke , and i’m a vegan , so that kind of just sounds …. like a nightmare , honestly . ” the price sounds outrageous too , and for something that sounds gross . “ you could probably even get the same thing online for cheaper if you looked , but i doubt you would wanna smell like that , ” who even does ? that scent should simply be illegal . “ i always orders this one perfume  –  ecco bella , in vanilla scent . it smells great and lasts for a really long time . ” and it’s vegan , but he didn’t wanna be one of those vegans out loud , even though he definitely was . “ is there a scent you were looking for in particular ? a friend of mines wears tommy bahama and he always smells pretty good …. not that i like , smell him or anything ! that’s so so weird , nope , no . it just … smells so strong , it basically radiates off him and like … ” stop talking , stop talking , stop talking . he nervously looks elsewhere , licking his lips . “ i’m gonna stop talking now . but , yeah . tommy bahama …. good scents , a rec . ” 

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure out of all the ones I’ve looked at so far that once has been the worst. Though at least it’s straight forward, I’m still trying to figure out what ‘Midnight’ would smell like.” Winnie mused, his brows furrowing together. “Also half of these labels are in French, and I might be bilingual, but French is not one of those languages.”  He sighed a small pout forming on his lips. “Did you say vanilla? That’s actually the scent I’m looking for, but all the ones I keep finding are mixed with something weird like whiskey. All I want is just plain vanilla but it’s been so hard to find something like that, I never knew how unpopular of a choice it was.” He replied, letting out a friendly laugh as the other rambled on. “Don’t worry, I don’t think you go around smelling people, at least I hope you don’t.”

Needing some things of his own, Jude found himself in the local mall Sephora. He was looking for something new and fun to do. He had been dabbling in some makeup skills, nothing that was too crazy but something that was subtle like his mascara and eyeliner. Jude never cared about how people perceived him so his learning of makeup was nice and it boosted his confidence. He was shopping around with a basket in hand and he smiled softly when he heard someone speaking about the crappy smelling cologne that there was. “I completely agree with you on that.” Jude replied while looking over at him, “Too many people are all about what is expensive and what is the biggest brand out there.”

Winnie slowly felt himself drifting towards the perfumes during his search, almost positive he wasn’t going to find what he was looking for in a cologne. “I don’t mind paying a bit more here and there for something because I’d rather spend more for something that’s better quality. But honestly there reaches a point where it’s the appeal is no longer the product, but rather the ability to flex how much you paid for it.”  He mused in agreement, sparing a glance in the other’s direction. “If I’m going to pay a certain amount for something, I kind of want to actually like what I’m buying, you know?”

Winnie glanced up at the hand being offered to him, mindful enough to try to brush the dirt off of his scraped palms before accepting the help up. “I don’t understand how some people even have their licence at this rate, that light was clearly red for several seconds by the time they blew through it.” He mumbled, a frown curling the corners of his lips. “Water? No, no, I’m okay. I think I just need to find some place to sit for a few minutes, my knees are feeling a bit wobbly.”

siena could be honest and say she’s passed through a few red lights ever since she got her license ( thirty six, but who’s counting? ), but it’s not supposed to get personal, she’s not the one that almost ran him over - in fact, siena has never ran over anybody. only small animals by accident. so, she instantly agrees with him, her tone turning into outraged teacher all of a sudden. “ it’s absurd, really. the dmv’s got some explaining to do!  ” she offers a shoulder for him to lean on, to help him get to the closest bench, which isn’t empty, so she screams “ clear the bench, this man is hurt!!! ”

“It just sucks somebody normally has to get hurt before people get their license revoked.” Letting out a soft breath Winnie let himself be lead to the closest bench, his eyes widening as she scared the previous patron of the bench off. “I’m really not hurt all that bad, it’s just a couple scrapes.” He replied a sheepish chuckle slipping out of his lips. “Thank you though.”

“yeah, really.” he nodded, getting the half-filled boxed he had in his pocket to check if it had a price tag on it. “i mean, unless you do it on a regular basis, ‘cause then you’re dropping the three hundred bucks anyway, but assuming it would be a one-time thing… nine bucks it is.” not finding a price tag, he shoved the box back in the pocket of his jacket, shrugging slightly; for a regular smoker he was pretty badly informed in this stuff, probably in fear that if he’d start to count all the money he dropped on wrecking his lungs, he’d probably scream - and then continue as he did all this time before, as he had no intentions of ever resigning of smoking.

“sounds about right… how the fuck does an… arctic breeze? …smell anyway? ridiculous. who comes up with these names?” not that he was an expert on the matter, he was sticking to the same brand for years now, always ordering online; besides, he wasn’t a fan of spending hours wandering around crowded malls and sephoras… the enthusiastic shop assistants were creeping him out a bit anyways.

“I always thought they were like fifteen dollars, but I never really had a rebellious streak where I tried anything like that. I think the worst for me is drinking once in awhile, pretty boring right?” Winnie mused with a sheepish smile. “I think there’s a small chance I might die if I tried smoking, apparently when I was a kid my dad had to stop smoking because I had an allergic reaction anytime he did it near me.”  He didn’t really remember that part of his life, but he had never bothered testing that theory out for good reason.

“I imagine it might smell like the inside of my freezer, which isn’t very appealing to me. I’m more concerned about what ‘wild temptation’ smells like." Something about that name just screamed disgusting and Winnie couldn’t quite put his finger on why that was, but all he could imagine was some sweaty middle aged man with a handle bar moustache when he thought about it. “So what are you in here looking for? If you don’t mind me asking.”

“Come this way!” Cheol grinned, leading him over to where some body mists that were a bit more floral and fruity were. “These ones are really nice, also not quite as in your face. I don’t know why people think that makes you a man. Like you’re only a man if I can smell you as soon as you walk in the door? Gross.” 

Winnie found himself trailing behind the other as they lead him towards a different shelf, thankful for the help from someone who seemed to understand him a bit better. While he may have indulged on a quite a few products from the store online, he wasn’t exactly a regular visitor to the actual shop. “Honestly I think I’d just stick to smelling like the pool if I had to pick one those colognes out.” He admitted, eyes tracing the new bottles on the shelf, and he could already tell just from the names that this was much more like what he was looking for. “I was kinda hoping to find something vanilla, I’m not sure how popular of a scent that is. But it’s the same as my shower products, so matching to that feels right.”

“I really don’t get how people manage to bulk up so much.” Winnie mused as he stepped off the treadmill, a frown etched on his lips as he watched someone lifting weights across the gym. “I can eat like three thousand calories of protein in a day and I won’t gain a pound of muscle, how is that fair?”  It wasn’t that Winnie wasn’t muscular, because he was, but his kind of muscle was lean and lithe; and while he had never had a problem with that in the past, recently he’d gotten it into his head that the next step to becoming a better swimmer would be gaining more muscle. “How do you do it? Bulk up I mean, you look pretty strong. I must be doing something wrong.”

Cheol walked closer, noticing the male eyeing the cologne that were really strong and insanely overpriced. “Trust me when I tell you that they all stink.” he admitted, rolling his eyes at the so called ‘masculine scents.’ “To be honest with you I always use bath and body works.. they have really nice scents and they’re pretty strong. If you’re set on cologne though, I would go with something more like marc jacobs.”

Winnie carefully placed the bottle back onto the shelf, letting his eyes glance over the rest of the products near by, all of which had names as overly hyper-masculine as the last. “I’m not set on cologne, I just asked the sales lady where their body sprays were and she brought me here. If I’m being honest I prefer more sweet scents opposed to...what ever these are supposed to be.” He mused motioning to the shelf in front of him. “I don’t think I’ve ever been in a bath and body works before if I’m being honest.”

for the first time in his life fern regretted that he never did enough partying to develop a high enough alcohol tolerance that would let him pull through the next day after drinking without a hangover; to be entirely fair, he didn’t even want to get drunk in the first place, but then his sister’s phone number flashed up on his phone’s cracked scene and whatever it was that she said pissed him off enough to lash out at her, which in return had her lashing out, which then led him to raid the apartment’s alcohol stash under the sink and chug down half a bottle of whisky in one run. he couldn’t even tell anymore what they argued about; but he felt bad enough to about it to want to compensate it to her, and at the lack of better ideas he set off to the nearest mall to pick up some gift cards and clear his head, and also replace the alcohol that he took the day before. 

he would’ve lied if he said that he didn’t feel incredibly out of place in sephora; the prices also had him grimacing to himself, and he started wondering how in the hell was his sister willing to drop that kind of money on a set of makeup brushes or an eyeshadow palette. he also regretted not asking sin for suggestions; he at least had a really good eye for colors, contrary to fern, who could only tell them apart if they were in hexadecimals. “i’m pretty sure that if you wanted to smell like cigarettes, you could do that for like what, nine bucks? yikes.” he grimaced, also remembering that he had to pick up a pack of cigarettes too… hell, this was going to be a long day and it wasn’t even noon yet.

Normally when it came to Sephora Winnie tended to do his shopping online, he wasn’t exactly someone who had an extensive make up collection; there would be no point since he spent half of the day in the pool where it would just all wash off. But he did have a bit of a guilty pleasure for wanting to feel pretty when no on was around to see him. However, when it came to scents that wasn’t exactly something you could order off the internet, he wanted to be able to actually smell something before he dropped the better part of a hundred dollars on it. 

“Do cigarettes really cost nine bucks? I thought they were more than that.” Winnie replied, a bit clueless when it came to that kind of thing; he was far to much of a health nut to put anything in his body he thought would hurt it. Despite the fact he was all to happy to over work himself to the point of injury. “Maybe perfume would be better, something that’s a bit sweeter.”

“Do you think there is a socially acceptable period of time you need to wait before you can leave a gathering?” Winnie questioned as he fidgeted with the straw in his drink, his eyes watching the way some of his teammates seemed to be drunkenly tripping over each other in an attempt to ‘dance’. “If so how long do you think that time period should be? I was thinking maybe an hour, or should it be more?”

Winnie had never been someone who invested a lot of money in cologne, he hated the smells that were associated with being ‘masculine’; if he wanted to smell like musk and wood he’d go roll around in a mulch pit, not to a mall Sephora. “Why the hell would anyone want to smell like ‘tobacco and leather’?” He questioned, holding a dark bottle in his hands, eyes widening at the obnoxious price. “And who the hell is paying three hundred dollars to do it?” Maybe this shopping trip was a bad idea, he had originally hoped on finding something to help mask the lingering scent of chlorine that stuck to his skin no matter how many times he showered, but right now that chlorine seemed like the better alternative.

“New lease on life, right?” Ife suggested, forcing a smile that gradually grew into something authentic. Ife had a way of brushing off extreme emotion with the work of mental olympics, jumping hoops inside her mind until she found herself at a position of stability again. “Come on, I’ll buy you a drink. Or a coffee, if you don’t drink or don’t really feel it. We can play pool and flirt with the happy hour customers.”

There was a hesitance to Winnie as he pondered over her offer, he definitely wasn’t much of a drinker, but coffee didn’t sound all that bad in that moment. “If I agree to coffee will you keep giving me existential crises? Because If so I don’t know if I can handle that.”

“basically what happened was the guy calling me that he can’t find the address, and when i offered i could meet him at the spot he’s at he said he needed to go cuz he was in a rush and i could pick my stuff up from the office? normally i’d say to just deliver it next day, but i don’t think i can take any more days off to sit on my ass and wait until delivery turns up, so…” he shrugged, tossing his coffee into the nearest bin as he followed winnie through the crossing to the other side. “…and you know, walking all the way there is the small sacrifice for some new sweaters and toys for my cat.”

“not gonna lie, i’m really glad about that too… hate cleaning the messes afterwards.” he grimaced, shuddering slightly at the memory of how many times he had to clean up after messy drunks; definitely not the way how he wanted to spend his nights, but what choice did he have really? “ew, that sounds pretty gross. i’m pretty sure actual pina coladas are way better? at least if you’re into the pineapple-y, coconut-y stuff, if not you’re probably gonna hate it.”

“I mean if you ask me that sounds like a wonderful way to get a day off from work to relax.” Winnie teased, as they walked down the street. Not that he knew anything about relaxing, in fact he was probably one of the least ‘relaxed’ people he knew, even on his ‘days off’ he found himself back at the pool to train using his own free time. "Wait...are the sweaters for you or your cat?” The idea of Silver trying to wrestle a tiny sweater onto an adorable furry demon was all to amusing of a thought. 

“I can imagine, I don’t think I could do your job, their are so many bodily fluids involved when it comes to drunk people.” His nose crinkled up at the mental image, and he shook his head in an attempt to wipe it from his mind. “I like coconut, and pineapple, though I can’t say I’ve ever had them together. I’m not super adventurous when it comes to trying drinks, I’m pretty sure I always order the same drink anywhere I go because it’s the only one I actually know.”

“technically i’m going out of my way… the regular way, i mean. i need to pick up a misplaced package in the courier company’s office, they couldn’t find my address so they took it back there.” he shrugged, the slightest frown of annoyance flashing through his face before he’d get rid of it, getting his smile back; it was half of a success that they didn’t send his stuff back to where it came from, and walking a hundred or so blocks to retrieve it was as good an exercise as anything else, so technically he wasn’t annoyed, maybe just a little bit frustrated? but that might’ve as well been the fault of the terrible coffee he wasted his money on.

“if that makes you feel any better about it, i’ve seen a lot worse cases than you.” he chuckled, thinking back to said night; winnie was probably the cutest drunk he encountered in a while ( as weird as it sounded… ), just blabbering away about random things, and for a while silver even considered leaving work early to get him home safely before remembering that he was the only bartender on a shift that night. “ besides, i can make you something alcohol-free if you don’t feel like drinking? just a heads up though that the pina colada is awful without the rum, so you might want to avoid that.”

“Oh ouch, the couriers office is pretty far from here to- that blows. Did they only try to deliver it once? Sometimes they’ll try again the next day.” Winnie questioned, glancing up as the pedestrian crossing light once again flicked on, though he hesitated for a moment this time, double checking every direction that no cars were coming this way before he started across the road.

“I suppose that does make me feel a bit better, I’m just glad I didn’t throw up, I’m not sure if I’d ever recover if I had.” It was his only saving grace that night, he may have made a fool of himself, but at least he managed to keep his liquor down. “Do pina colada’s even taste good with rum? I’ve never had one before, the closest I’ve come is a pina colada flavoured jelly bean and that was kinda gross.”

　　　just as they step above ground out of the metro station, the sky splits open and rain begins pouring. it’s not misty rain either, nor slow  —  fast, heavy and relentless, soaking the ground in seconds. rei curses softly under their breath and ducks back down into the sheltered underpass, leaning forward to protect the manuscript in their arms from the rain. of course it would be like this on the one day they forget to bring an umbrella. of course.

　　　“  do you know anywhere nearby that sells umbrellas ?  ”  it’s the best solution rei can think of at the moment, to run to a store and hope that the manuscript and its red pen alterations don’t get too wet. they can’t very well expect someone to lend them an umbrella, or to walk with them all the way to their apartment, and their budget is stretched far too thin already to be able to call a taxi or uber. oh, and their phone is nearly dead anyway. today really isn’t rei’s day.  /  @castrostarter

The rain should have been a bother, and perhaps to any sane person it was. But Winnie really couldn’t be mad at it, his hair wasn’t even dry yet from his post-training shower, so getting it wet again was the least of his concerns. While being drenched wasn’t unusual for him considering his lifestyle, normally he was at least in a swimsuit when it happened rather than fully dressed. But having to dry his clothes later was nothing more than a minor inconvenience at most.

The voice beside him pulled his attention away from his walk home towards the figure under the underpass, and a wave of sympathy washed over him as he noticed they were hugging papers to their chest like their life depended on it. “There’s a general store, but it’s about a block up the street.” He replied, not sure how well their papers would fair going that far. “Do you want something to cover that?" He questioned, motioning to what was in their hands. “I have a plastic bag in my gym bag, you could wrap it in that so it doesn’t get wet.” He offered.

instead of a decent answer silver only offered a small chuckle, bordering somewhere between amused and flustered; if this was about the roadkill part, that was actually understandable, thinking back on it that was a pretty damn fucking weird compliment to say, even by silver standards, but he swallowed that thought back before he’d start dwelling on it out loud. he brushed a stray lock of hair behind his ear, shrugging slightly, as this was an answer also as good as any other; he wasn’t even sure if he had one set standard, so why start debating it now?

“sounds like a solid plan.” he nodded along with a small smile. “oh shush, you, that’s totally fine. and besides, i’m going in the same direction and it would be awkward if i kept following from five steps behind like some creepy stalker. unless you insist and then i’ll just go on the other side of the road, which isn’t any less weirder, but if anything we can just drink the weirdness away in a few hours if you drop by the bar by any chance? let’s just say the first two are on me.”

Just the thought of Silver walking behind him, or across the street made him visibly cringe, not sure if he could handle just how awkward that would be. “Okay, okay, we’ll walk together, but only since you’re not going out of your way, otherwise I’m sending you across the street.” The younger joked, a small smile coming to his lips. “The bar? I don’t really do a lot of drinking outside of with my team after winning a competition, and last time they ditched me; I’m sure you remember how well that went.”  

Blurry memories of that night flashed back into Winnie’s mind; his cheek pressed against the counter of the bar as he looked dazedly up at the bartender and whined about being abandoned, and also couldn’t stop himself from rambling on about how the other looked like a pretty elf for at least twenty minutes before nearly crying at the idea of trying to walk home when his legs felt like 'squiggly spaghetti’ as drunk him had put it.“I’m pretty sure I will actually die of embarrassment if that happens again.”
