Azure also now has a pumpkin. All his friends are dead so manically celebrating Halloween is the only way he’s holding on through October. Is he okay? No. Is singing a song about ghosts partying in the dead of night while committing murder on a pumpkin making him feel better? Yes.

Azure’s words came as a genuine surprise to Merasmus, who had since realized that he maaaaybe misjudged the situation. He stared down at the lone mercenary, desperately debating to continue with his plan. It’s not like he had done anything, this guy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time - but going back on his tricks would be a coward’s move. Oh well.

“Wow! That’s-“ his tone of voice shifted, echo dissipating, “that’s really sad, actually. Are- are you going through something? Should we postpone this? I mean, I’m an evil wizard and everything but I don’t wanna make this worse for you.”

❝ No, it’s fine, you’ve already made up yer mind. Yer backpedalin’ is strong enough t’ fling ya right off a bike, pal. ...Look. It ain’t like I’m doin’ anythin’ else around this dump. Most excitin’ thing today was findin’ canned chicken in with th’ tuna. ‘Least this place was prepared fer... somethin’. ❞ 

Ah. Poor Azure had been surviving off of nothing but his stash of protein shakes and whatever canned stuff he could find around the island. Maybe a fresh caught fish, or whatever greenery he could scrounge up from the dense tropical flora.

The Scout listened with quiet intent, being polite to her senior was only right; Eli knew the chain of command when it was obvious.

“Well yes sir, I’m lucky I think with that– Knowin’ what life is like outside of what can be repaired really kinda… Puts into perspective how important real medicine is.” She lifted up her left hand, opening and closing the mechanical digit which had once been nothing more than a bloodied stump.

Yet now, the new attatchment worked with just as much finesse as a real finger. “I’m so close t’a gettin’ my Doctorate– Can’t be’a Scout forever is my thought.” She turned to pick up a wrench from the tool cart, half positioning her back toward the elder.

“What class took you? Soldier…? Or with that strength, Heavy?”

❝ Well I’ll be damned. ❞

Azure raised an eyebrow, looking at the Scout’s mechanical hand. He was reminded of a certain Engineer and his robotic legs. He’d heard that the younger Conagher had made himself an entirely robotic hand, too. Like father, like son.

❝ Heheh. Heavy all the way. Back when the popular heavy weapon was assault cannons instead of miniguns. Oh, and when they let everyone have grenades an’ crowbars instead of just demos. Haven’t seen a fella with a crowbar in a while, think they’re outta style...? Damn if I don’t miss mine. Nothin’ like bustin’ a Spy’s head in with one while he’s tryin’ to stab everyone. ❞

An evil chuckle came from him, only lasting a few seconds as he watched her work.

❝ Can’t be a Scout forever...? So’s it really true they won’t let you be an Engineer unless you’ve got a PhD? I always thought that was a joke when Fred brought it up... ❞
