Hi! I am in love with The thief and Sp TSOT game as a whole and I so wanna try making my own SOT au-but I dont know where to start gathering like, info! Ive read a lot of your explanations posts on how u created The Thief, and I understand you used stuff like Star Wars and even Wicked for a little Inspo! Im just wondering If you wanted to share more tips or fun facts about, like ex you used, the British kingdom type era.. stuff like that, or other series/ movies/ books u might've got inspired by! Or where I could go to just research more about such world building..? ( ˙ᗜ˙ )

So historically, I read several books and watched documentaries on the Middle Ages to inform my own world as a starting point. I obviously did not make my fantasy world 1:1, like the serfdom system was changed for my convenience not to mention the importance of Christianity while I made religion absent (by law) in Kupa. This was back in like 2017-2018 so idk all of them, especially documentaries but basically what I can find currently that I read/listened to:

A Brief History of Life in the Middle Ages by Martyn Whittock

Three audible titles from The Great Courses: The Early Middle Ages, The High Middle Ages, and The Late Middle Ages

Videos that varied from recreations to inspo to informative lectures like this, this, this, this, this, and this. (I mainly included inspo ones and research are easier to find.) I watched a ton of fashion videos lol, I'm not going to link them all.

I think I mentioned it before but while I very loosely inspired stuff MAINLY from the 14th century-ish (ignoring the year they use in the game because fuck it they're kids and probably picked an arbitrary number), The Mage is inspired by the shitshow that was the year 536 CE. Idr what all sources I used but there are quite a lot out there to be found.

I was out there doing way too much, especially when a lot of this only was actually visibly referenced in the prologue and then the few chapters in Kupa City, but it was still fun to me as a huge history nerd. But it helped me really nail down Craig's POV/mindset and his experiences + overall Kupa aesthetic/world building.
